The guy did phrase it as if the studios cooperate... Or else. I wonder if that guy would let you know if Fox actually manages to print a new 1980 version?

Do they have people at LOC who would know the difference?  Suppose they asked for an original theatrical version, and they were sent a 2004 version.  Would they spend the time to make sure they got what they asked for?  Would they know how to go about telling the difference?

Stjärnornas Krig - Swedish 16mm print (Released)
Time

Ok, before I send out these disks, I suppose I should do what I have done for my previous two efforts, and post my current want-list for trades.  Not that I require a trade to send out a disk... actually I'm happy to send out my first wave of Swedish disks whether or not anyone has anything to trade.  But trading is the only way I've been able to enjoy some of the great stuff here, since I don't do torrents.  Anyhow, here's what I'd really like to see, the ones I most desire listed first:

  • Adywan's theatrical ESB
  • Harmy's despecialized OT
  • Deleted Magic
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: The Infodroid Edit
  • G-Force vs. 2 (is it out yet?)
  • Star Wars - Attack of the Federation

"THE MANIAC" (bonus) - 1:20

Sorry for being ignorant but what's "THE MANIAC"?

One of three 8mm shorts that was on a reel marked "Star Wars" (that I had bought off of eBay).  It is not Star Wars related, otherwise.  It required some minor editing to prepare for the DVD.  Depending on the reaction it gets, I may or may not release the other two.

It is a world premiere.

I remember the first time I watched AOTC, about halfway through the film I noticed that the entire movie was organized into scenes as follows:

  • wild CGI action/explosions with no dialogue
  • two or three people sitting and talking
  • wild CGI action/explosions with no dialogue
  • two or three people sitting and talking
  • wild CGI action/explosions with no dialogue
  • two or three etc. etc. etc.

Once I noticed this, it became really difficult to watch the film because this pattern was so distracting.  Watching RLM's review of ROTS, I now understand how this pattern emerged.

Ok, I've finished the disk, and will be running it through its paces tomorrow to verify that it's ok.  Then I'll do my usual trading with the first wave of people who have helped out and/or expressed the most constant interest.  Hopefully it will make its way onto the "various internets" thereafter.

So let me know if you wish to be included.  I already have a few people on my automatic recipients' list.  And there are a few tidbits I'm interested in and haven't yet had the pleasure of seein' if you're willing to trade.

Remember folks, the key words here are: "lowered expectations" :)  At least the bonus extra kicks ass!

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

When you guys realies what you do to nice people like me you will be sorry.

You may be a nice person.  Most people are, so you probably are too.  But taking Adywan's own video, claiming it's Lucas', and then demanding that Adywan apologize for doubting you is monstrously offensive by any measure. At the very least a proper apology is warranted.

Some of us here (including Adywan, obviously) are working extremely hard on difficult, technical projects that will ensure Lucas' greatest works are preserved for eternity and made available for people to appreciate.  Try and remember that.

However if only the special edition's of the OT are release on blu-ray alongside the prequel films I have no problem with that at all

Ken, somewhere along the line you seem to have missed that this forum was formed and is dedicated to exactly the OPPOSITE of what you just stated above.  We DO have a problem with Lucas' choice to only releasing the special editions of the OT.  That is in our mission statement.  It isn't a small point.  It is THE point.

p.s. - this thread kicks ass!!!

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time

Wrong question.  I actually enjoyed many of the changes... maybe if I went through them one by one, I might discover that I "liked" most of them.  The changes in the SE are all fine... but the changes in the SE as permanent replacements for the original corresponding scenes in the OT are absolutely unacceptable, whether I like them or not... every single one of them. You can't change history because you like the revised version better.

French Super8 transfer

(google translation)

Transferring super 8 sound - my personal collection of films in poor condition. Denoising, correcting the black level, gain, gamma correction white balance (the film had completely turned to pink), and color balance.

My first impression was, "nice transfer!".  Not sure if that much DNR would hold up on a larger screen (the faces are quite plastic-y even on YouTube), but the contrast/color balance is quite good.
