THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

What do you think, Silver, is it possible to get rid of most of that pink tint, how did your Grande look before you worked your magic on that, Puggo?

It's hard to tell from a single screen cap.  Reel 2 of the PG was much more red than the others, but it's hard for me to tell from this screencap how reel 2 of the PG compares to this print.  From what little I see, it looks comparable.

Adventures in Raising the Next Generation of Original Star Wars Fans
Time

Keeping your kid from watching the PT?  That's a little over the top.  This is a different generation, and they have every right to enjoy things that we don't enjoy.  In fact, it doesn't bother me at all if the younger generation doesn't like the original SW and prefers the PT.  They also don't like the Beatles, Miles Davis, and a host of other things that earlier generations consider great.  However, they should learn to respect that which came before, because the things they love will become passe too.

That said, I think that eventually anyone with an IQ over 90 will realize, on their own or with a modicum of education, that the PT sucks and the OT rocks.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

To kenkraly's credit (dare I say?), at least he usually says that he agrees that the original version should be released.  Many of the Lucas apologists seem to actively NOT want the originals to be released (which I find positively wierd and even offensive).  That one little concession of kenkraly's seems to have been learned here.  It took many months for us to insert that thought into his auto-looping brain, but now it's there and seems to pop up in most of his repetitive posts.  One small step...

Is kenkraly just copying and pasting the same comments on every site that mentions the blu-rays? he mus have commented the same stuff on dozens of sites already and surely there si no way you can spell august wrong so many times.

What's even more amazing, is that he posted the same thing over and over onto the blu-ray.com site.  About once every 25 or 30 posts, there's another kenkraly entry saying exactly the same thing.

The future of Lucasfilm

As much as some of us would like to believe that there's that much demand for the OOT, it ain't so. It's something that fans and film enthusiasts really want, but the casual viewer doesn't really care about which version they're watching.

I don't believe that.  Even if it is true, it is only because Lucas has successful made it so, at least in the short term.  All he'd have to do is hype the "original theatrical restoration" the same way that he did the SEs, and he'd make even more of a mint. I just cannot believe that SW is the only movie in the world for which most people don't want the original version.

simple color correction question

What I was after was the relationship between the contributions of R, G, and B, and how that relates to producing yellow.  That would help me decide which of the three need to go up, and which of them need to go down, in order to reduce the amount of yellow.

It looks from the wheel you posted, that I would need to reduce the red and green, and possibly increase the blue?

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

On blu-ray.com, I'm quite curious how it is that posts that just say things like "saga for me!!" and "whoopee! pre-ordered it!" get so many thumbs-up clicks, whereas posts that contain actual content all get so many thumbs-down that they end up getting hidden?  Seriously, the only interesting posts are the ones you have to click to view.  Are there people that actually spend the time going through and clicking thumbs-up on all the "yahooey!" posts?  Does LFL have all their workers go through and do that?  Or does he pay someone there make a bunch of fake accounts just to go through and make sure the substantive posts get hidden while all the vapid "yippees!" get 10 stars?!

It's hard to imagine that Star Wars is the only movie in the world for which the majority of people DON'T want the theatrical version released!!??  But that's the way it looks.  How sad!

I saw ken's star wars blu ray review sight unseen, he can apparent gaze into the future to review the blu rays.

What I find fascinating about his posts, is that sometimes he says that he hopes the problems will be fixed, and he hopes they'll include the original versions, but even if they aren't he is still buying the set.  What compels someone to buy, with a big "woo hoo!", even if there is nothing in particular on it that they want and don't already have?  It can't be logic, it must be some sort of compulsion.

Wow.  You guys are hitting it on the head when referring to how people think of us.  Just check out the comments on Blu-ray.com.  People mentioning the OOT get minus points, and those that say it's better than nothing and I'm getting it anyway get plus points.  Anyone trying to bring up the originals gets called names.

I'm at a loss as to why this is the case.  Has the world really gone insane?

Yeah? Like what reason? Maybe as a bold middle finger to those who give a f*ck about quality.

It's entirely possible, that at this point, not only does GL not care whether us annoying OOT fans buy the set, but he actually would prefer we not buy it.  Because he knows that if we do, he'll get more grief and more negative publicity.  As long as only fanboys buy it, there will only be fanboy-style feedback/reviews.

The Great Chess Movie (Released)
Time

It's done now.

The original transfer was pretty poor, like it was done with a dirty lens.  But the VHS was in perfect condition and it digitized well.  It was my first transfer with my newly-acquired Panasonic AG-1980, and wow what a difference that made over my already decent Mitsubishi deck.  Didn't even need to use the external TBC.

Not much of a menu... just a screencap and a "play" button.

Realism is missing on every Star Wars movie. Be it CGI or puppets.

I disagree.  The puppets were really there in the frame during filming, along with the background, buildings or foliage, etc. In the PT, many of the characters and background are CGI which was not in the green screen frame during filming at all but was added later.  So whereas the puppets aren't actually living creatures, they are at least there during filming.  And in my opinion, the difference in realism is obvious.  Particularly on Tatooine, which in SW looks like a real desert town with real dust, real people wandering around, real dirty vehicles, real wind, real daylight, etc., presumably because they all really were real when filmed.
