I apologize…I will attempt to hold more air within…that I need not take as many apparently unnecessary and undesired breaths between words…!

Truthfully, it is a bad habit I acquired due to having a great deal of competing and yet incomplete thoughts…further, each idea has with it a given cadence…it does not appear quite appropriate to merely punctuate it unduly…apparently I appear to have simply lost the means of properly completing a sentence…the alternative has been some fairly wordy attempts, indeed as those here might readily attest…!

You have the entire run of MST3K? How is that even possible?

I recorded a good chunk of them on VHS back when they were airing, and bought some on DVD, but…wow.

It is a failing of mine…I freely admit…also, I accidentally downloaded it on Vu–ah, that is to say, I accidentally found it to be located within a directory upon my D drive after seemingly having left my computer running for about 4 days in an undisturbed state… 😉

For most of my dream last night I was just running around singing On Any Other Day by The Police. I was at a soccer game, at sea watching Hillary Clinton drown, and some other weird places, and I just kept singing that song.

Bill drowned too I think. He saw Hillary drowning from a yacht he was on and just laughed, but then said yacht started going down.

I have to admit to having enjoyed this post…the imagery that came to mind…! 😉

Hey everyone,

I guess I should introduce myself somewhat, at least, but first I’ll tell you why I’m here. I’m not really a fan of Star Wars all the much, so try not to hold that against me. The reason I am here is because I’m going through a rather rough time and need a distraction. I’m not one to really reach out for help or to others, but my friend here convinced me to do so.

Now with all that being said, I guess I should say a little about myself. I’m a huge fan of old cheesy horror films, I love video games, I’m an avid gamer, usually anyway. I have a fascination with old muscle cars, particularly mustangs. Mustangs are my favorite, hell, I drive a mustang, so I may be bias.

I’m not sure as to what else you guys would want to know.

Oh yeah… Classic rock is my thing.
Killer Queen is one of my favorite songs, hence, the username.

You have referenced a difficult time…would you care to elaborate…? Feel free to feel as free as you may feel free to feel…we understand both the difficult and the mundane…!

As for gaming, which might be considered your preferred platform? Essentially, what games do you frequent most often?

The closest I might arrive at horror in the B grade and below is to watch ancient episodes of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (of which this entire forum appears to be a reasonable facsimile…)…I have the entire series…unfortunately…!

Muscle cars is beyond my scope, unfortunately…I am firmly into (and out of) mini-vans…

Classic Rock is a fair interest…do you have a favorite band (a banal question I realize…but nonetheless it is an interest of mine as well…). Though I confess to being ignorant of Killer Queen, it does remind of Rocket Queen…which naturally points to Guns and Roses…(clearly Unclassical Rock perhaps, but Rock nonetheless…). Therefor if my image of you is of an individual wearing a bandana much as would Axl Rose I apologize in advance…! 😉

Again, it is good to have met you…it is most welcome to have guests in the parlor…!

I hate it when all the good cable TV channels get rebranded, sold off, shut down, or otherwise changed into something completely different than what they were.

[JEDIT]

Also, I hate how there’s no simple, easy way just to connect a VCR to a computer without having to go to the trouble of buying a freaking adapter. Why couldn’t they just make laptops with analog connections?

ION did make a VHS deck with a USB output, but it was short of features most of us value, like Hi Fi sound. Whether it works without the included software I have no idea. Considering how most decks made after 2000 we’re 98% cheap plastic, it was surprisingly heavy.

I have one of those…a fairly reasonable little machine…

I watched it.
But as I hate franchises his argument didn’t wash with me.
As I mention in the comments I only like Raiders and the first 20mins of Indiana Jones and Incredibly Racist Movie of Doom as films because it’s the only time there seems to be something new going on. The Last Crusade is as not for me as Jedi and Crystal Skull is another PT movie.
Similarly I don’t enjoy the Terminator sequels or Aliens as much as I’m culturally obliged to because they are too parasitic on the first superior film.
Writing stories isn’t as difficult as people seem to make out and TFA has the advantage of having interesting well acted characters and a director that moves around a bit.
I’m fed up with references, it was bad when Chewie did the Tarzan thing in Jedi but it’s almost as bad when you get it happening in the same series.
Maybe I’m just getting too old for contemporary culture.
Television does this sort of thing so much better too.
I had moderate expectations of the film when I went in (after 3 PT films and Prometheus) but I came out feeling nothing much. I think I’ve been more energised about the film talking about it here than actually watching the thing.

It is nice of you to put down these thoughts for the both of us…saves me a good deal of trouble…

I can’t accept TFA as a real entry in the SW saga because it devalues the events in the original trilogy, and renders all those trials, lessons, and victories as nullified, by the very people who achieved them.

This article is an excellent explanation of why some fans may be struggling with Lucas’ fairy tale ending being erased. Real life doesn’t always end with dancing plush toys.

This is an interesting rationalization of the characters presented in TFA…it is yet unfortunate they were not equally afforded their own ‘millennial’ plot and character development to properly cinch the deal…unless a millennial plot is essentially the perpetual reconstitution of ideas from the BB generation…?

Here’s another point: TFA is openly for the fans. It didn’t come carrying its own voice or knowing part of the saga that needed to be told, it came to celebrate and re-experience what already was.

From the start, it wasn’t designed to be the focused reality of the continuation of SW, but to conjure up images from the part of the SW reality which has already completed, while putting those images within the framework of a continuing story.

There is a difference between what the story that comes from the goals of TFA is, and what a story made to be only its own self, in its own space, would be. TFA takes the slot of this next period of SW, but uses it as a fanciful flashback. It breaks stride with SW OT, and while it presents itself using many of the same tones, and is excellent in doing that, it doesn’t carry what was established in SW forward, and seems to exist out of a distinct frame of mind from the OT, while presenting facsimile images.

I think it’s described very well as being a fanfic.

I agree with your perception of this film as being a millennial fanfiction project…this is likely the chief source of the issue I had with the film…

I still can’t help but think the film would be so much more interesting if the First Order were the resistance against the Republic and the Republic had Death Stars.

The bad guys would be preaching their message of hate from a position of weakness and the good guys would overstep their ethical and moral responsibility leading to more converts.

Hollywood could do with making that sort of film at the moment and it’s a combination we haven’t seen in a Star Wars trilogy so far.

I was hoping for and expecting this to be the case. It would mirror our current world very well.

Yes, this would have truly impressed me to a greater degree as well…

Since I got most of my christmas money refunded because of a bad item, I was thinking that I really needed some…headphones/earbuds.

Seriously though, what do you recommend that is cheap and DURABLE? To me the most important thing a headphone set needs is durable wires. Most headphones I ever used break within a month, usually before that. While high-end sound is nice, I don’t need it.

Suggestions for earbuds or headphones with cords that will last for years to come?

What is your intended budget…?

In the novelization, it is explained that when R2 was first built, he was actually conceived as a pilot droid. Specifically, he was meant to pilot escape capsules in emergencies. However, as he was transferred from owner to owner, he gradually lost interest in piloting anything in lieu of his actual duties, and over time he in fact forgot how to do it. So when the opportunity finally came up over Tatooine, he wasn’t able to do a very good job.

Haha! Thank you for that…! 😉

  1. R2 and C3P0 happen to land somewhere conveniently on the side of the planet where Luke is

R2 piloted the escape pod to the location Leia told him to go. The escape pod was navigable, unlike the TIE fighter Poe and Finn were in in TFA

That was never established in the film. Nice rationalization though.

Sorry to come back to this point so late. Here it is, straight from the official 1976 novelization of the original script:

Artoo’s seemingly random manipulation of the pod controls promised anything but a smooth landing, however. Threepio regarded his squat companion with concern. “Are you sure you know how to pilot this thing?”

Original script or nay it matters not because the script has been revised and it mentions nothing about R2 piloting anything. I’m just going on what’s presented in the film and the official script.

           INT. IMPERIAL STARDESTROYER

On the main viewscreen, the lifepod carrying the two terrified
robots speeds away from the stricken Rebel spacecraft.

                                 CHIEF PILOT
                     There goes another one.

                                 CAPTAIN
Hold your fire. There are no life
forms. It must have been short-
                     circuited.

           INT. LIFEPOD

Artoo and Threepio look out at the receding Imperial starship.
Stars circle as the pod rotates through the galaxy.

                                 THREEPIO
                     That's funny, the damage doesn't
look as bad from out here.

           Artoo beeps an assuring response.

                                 THREEPIO
Are you sure this things safe?

This is not truly a topic of great concern in my view, but a thought did occur that perhaps R2 programmed the capsule prior to its departure? After all did he not appear to be in control of its launch, etc…?

Why does the escape pod look like it’s in freefall? Also why did it crash in the middle of nowhere (albeit conveniently in walking/riding distance from both Luke and Ben) and not somewhere closer to Obi-Wan if R2 knew where he was?

It certainly did appear to be in free-fall…and I will not argue this to have simply been a clever device by R2 to throw the enemy off track…alas, my efforts to bridge the gap in this have not succeeded…pity…

Though certainly none of my business, it would, nonetheless, improve my enjoyment of life not to have to constantly bear the sight of that questionable character…might I instead hopefully suggest one of your past avatars as its replacement…?

Kindly understand I am of a sensitive nature and the image is jarring…not quite Jar Jarring, but close enough…

Thank you in advance.
