Going away? Post so here!
Time

I’m leaving this place because every post made by oojason since he became a mod pisses me the fuck off and has made this site into a watered down version of what it was. I understand not being able to actually insult people, but you can’t even pretend to insult people as a joke anymore. What the fuck? This place used to be fun. I’ll possibly still stay in touch with people I have pm threads with. Unless of course I get banned for daring to be unhappy with something Jason said and can’t access pms. Toodles.

I suppose I should try and explain myself for that comment. I was trying to be rude because Handman’s comment pissed me off, but at the same time the simple “Fuck you.” has been an OT.com lighthearted insult that I thought most people would get, although I guess it has been replaced by “Up ur” now.

You can also use “fuck ur.”

Yes, if you want to annoy the mods, and be issued with warnings etc, then you go ahead and use ‘fuck ur’ to another member of the community…

If not, I suggest you don’t use ‘fuck ur’ either.

Uhm, why? “Ur” is so obviously a silly thing that this community has come up with to use that I don’t see how anybody could take a post with it as a serious insult. And we used to say fuck you to each other all the time to each other and everyone understood that it was a joke. Now all the sudden a new person (through no fault of his own) wasn’t around for the joke and it’s all the sudden not allowed at all? Why not just link him the thread with the original jokes?

I can see many of the fun memories I have of this place would not have been allowed to happen had you been made a mod sooner. Your seeming quest of sucking all the fun and asserting your new dominance as the all powerful super mod of a god damn Star Wars forum is starting to work. Hey did you guys know Jason is a mod now? I somehow forgot since he only intervened in most threads instead of all now.

Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)
Time

Just checking in to say I’m glad people are enjoying this set, and thanks to those that have picked up the torch to continue sharing it with true (non-ebay pirate) fans.

On a separate note, I have recently indulged in a 4K upscaling projector, and my goodness, even at 720p, the image quality of the Despec. edition projected at 160" is something to behold. Star Wars was meant to be viewed big!

Star Wars

Nice! I watch on projector also. Mine is 1080p dnd the screen size is more about 125 inches (had to cut it to fit the wall and accommodate the position of the projector since I had to find a good stud to put it on) but it still looks great and still looks giant.

MY thoughts on various changes
Time

No we just have to argue about it for several pages now.

I honestly don’t have strong feelings of love for the Biggs scene itself either but it makes it a bit more connected when Luke gets worked up when he dies later.

I hate most of the other cgi added. It’s terrible. But Idk I felt like they did a better job on the Death Star. Minus the shock wave.

I love Ian as the emperor in ROTJ, he personified everything the emperor was, so that makes it worth having him in ESB. Yes I wish they’d have done his make up like in ROTJ but it’s still closer than having a different person altogether. The new dialogue is a bit strange but doesn’t bother me. And a grew up with the oot (faces) and didn’t really like the prequels until I discovered fanedits.

Now respond out of proportion and on a personal level.

MY thoughts on various changes

Star Wars:
-New Death Star attack cgi was good
-Recomposites of existing elements were good
-Minor non intrusive visual tweaks are neutral
-Biggs scene is good
-Everything else can suck a ball

ESB:
-Recomposites are good
-Ian as Emperor is neutral
-Minor visual tweaks are neutral
-Everything else can suck a ball

ROTJ:
-Recomposites are good
-Everything else can suck a ball

Discuss at length and argue for several pages.

35mm Stereo Sound Question
Time

I would imagine theaters that only had 2.0 capabilities played in 2.0 and those with 4.0 capabilities upmixed the 2.0 track to have surround. I mean even the original 2.0 are matrixed to Dolby surround (a more primitive form of pro logic) and I don’t see why they would go through the trouble of doing the matrix downmixing if theaters couldn’t handle it because I don’t believe people were using Dolby surround (pro logic) to watch movies at home until 80s or 90s.

I wouldn’t go that far. Had Lucas stopped in '81 and released that version on DVD and later on BluRay, I probably wouldn’t care. But since that didn’t happen, A New Hope now stands for the first glimpse of the revisionist bullshit that was to come. And now, I associate it with the Special Edition, rather than the '81 home video release (or the theatrical re-release).

I was being decidedly unserious.

That’s how I took it. I just wasn’t sure if you were implying that I was too harsh on the '81 version.

Oh I definitely was, but not maliciously.

Every angry video game nerd video thus far. Loved it. I remember some of those games from my grandmas house growing up (No I’m not THAT young but my grandma had a NES with a few good “name brand” games and a shitload of other random sometimes good sometimes crappy third party games that i imagine she bought wholesale at a flea market for the kids to play with) and some of the bad games I remember. I had Simons quest, karate kid, Milosz secret castle and other games he did famous reviews on.

I think from that perspective, Adywan’s version of the Emperor scene is by far the best.

I would agree if it weren’t sped up. I get that he was trying to make it match the original performance and ROTJ better but with his inflections and delivery it just sounds unnatural to me. It definitely looks the best tho

Really? I didn’t notice a speedup at all. Huh.

It’s definitely sped up by a noticeable margin. And I get the reasoning behind it to match the speed of Clives emperor but the original speed just sounds more natural to the performance Ian actually gave.
