Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I'm watching parts of 2.1 now and it looks amazing. A couple of questions:

Will there be any updates to the disc or box art for this release?

Harmy, how much "PR" do you want on other forums? I post quite a bit on another tech forum and I'm sure many folks there would be interested in this release, but I don't want to advertise this project in any way that is against your wishes.

As always, thanks Harmy and everyone else who contributed to this fantastic release.

I should be uploading the AVCHD tomorrow :-)

OK, now I'm officially excited!

Harmy, are you going to make another trilogy box cover, for those of us who use the 3-disc cases? No big deal if you don't, I'm OK with using the previous DeEd trilogy cover. Of course my trilogy will consist of 2.1, 1.0, and 1.0 until one of the other films gets an update.

Once again, thanks so much for all your efforts on these films. My daughter will soon be old enough to see Star Wars and I'm so grateful to have the DeEd to show her.

Here is a preliminary comparison gallery:

http://uloz.to/xCAaaEE/compar-gallery-rar

It's taken from a compressed render of the video comparison. I'd like you to report any mistakes, typos or mislabels you may find, so that I can perfect it for the BD release. Thanks.

20.51.41: Should really say "recedes at the correct speed", and there appears to be a stray "a" at the end of the line.

20.59.42: Looks like a space is missing between "the" and "2004".

21.06.38: There is a typo for under "uder".

I haven't finished going through it yet but that's what I've found so far.

Thank you SilverWook. This is exactly why I was kinda apologizing for making another version, some people just approach this as if it was some kind of official release. So, let me repeat, I'm making these mainly for myself and I'm sharing them for free, so if I do decide to make v999999999999.0, it's my business and your choice to download it or not.

Harmy, when you release v999999999999.0, can you please make sure to support my 16Kx16Kx16K holographic projector, and also make the Dejarik scene into a fully-interactive playable game with augmented reality motion control? Thanks! :-D

I just really wish I'd started with the AVCHD and not make people download these huge files only to make them redownload them later.

Trust us Harmy, nobody is upset about downloading your huge files. You can give us as many files as you like. :)

And, as ww12345 mentioned, best is the enemy of better.

OK, so the fixed AVCHD can be found at the usual place. Here's a new nfo:

Awesome! Sorry to sound like a broken record, but can you post the SHA-1 hash of the ISO file? Even better, for future releases just include it in the nfo file.

I know I've said it before, but thank you Harmy for all your amazing work on this project - and thanks to all the other contributors as well.

Hey I'm having trouble with burning this to a DVD. I already tried ImgBurn, multiAVCHD and some guides on afterdawn but nothing worked for me. Can someone please help me?

Burning what to a DVD? The 16G MKV is not going to fit/work on a DVD unless you transcode and recompress it. You are better off waiting for Harmy's official AVCHD release.

No. I guess I need an invite? Is that AVCHD people are mentioning a "ready for disc" package so I dont have to mess with the mkv thing? That sort of thing is really confusing to those of us who havent ever done something like it before.

The AVCHD format is mainly intended for folks (like myself) who don't yet own Blu-ray burners. The movie is still encoded in HD format, but it will be no larger than 8.5G so that it will fit onto a dual-layer DVD. You can then burn it to a DVD that you can play in a regular Blu-ray player.

If you do have a Blu-ray burner, then you can probably just burn some variant of the existing MKV.

Are you downloading it from Myspleen, Midnight_Trooper? I get 900 KBps of speed...

Harmy, I will try to split both mkv and then merge then later. BTW, this is the SHA1 hash of the file I downloaded from Myspleen: 1548ff324162e7ec6fb47346b8b2a2eab3090b73. Maybe the file was slightly corrupted when I was downloading it?

If that is your MKV file (Star.Wars.Despecialized.Edition.Remastered.Harmy.mkv) and not something else, then something went very wrong, because I got mine from Myspleen and it matched Harmy's perfectly.

Got my AVCHD done and it looks amazing. Left out most of the audio options just for personal preference. All I need is Hairy Hen's, the 2 channel and mono 77' audio. I can't notice any shift in video quality from the MKV on my 720p TV.

EDIT: For those wanting to do the same. I used a program called AVCHDcoder (a quick google search can yield the download link). Load the MKV file into the program, select which audio streams you want to use, select the output size (I chose Dual Layer), select the output folder and let it do its thing. Mine took around 7 hours to finish but the results are very nice and can be burned to dual layer dvd.

Thank you for this tip, I may have to try it out!

What I was however planning to do was make a little documentary for the BD, explaining what the DeEd is and maybe upload that to YouTube when it's done. It would explain the most important parts of the OOT issue and how the general public is being deceived and misled into either not even knowing there was any earlier version of it or at least thinking the original versions had cardboard cut out spaceships and stuff and how the DeEd can be used to educate people about this issue ;-) Covering my ass a little there but at the same time I believe that it is true.

I'm not sure it would be a good idea to put that on youtube. It might be seen as essentially a commercial for DeEd 2.0, and LFL does not take kindly to people "promoting" their unauthorized works.

But just to be clear, the documentary itself sounds awesome, and I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I was thinking something similar, I would really hate to see Harmy get in any trouble for the amazing work he has done.

First, thanks for this amazing release, I haven't gotten it yet but I'm looking forward to it!

Harmy, it would be awesome if you could post a SHA-1 hash of your MKV so that we can verify our file is exactly the same as yours. This is very easy to do with Windows.

1. Download and install the excellent HashTab utility:

http://www.implbits.com/HashTab.aspx

2. Right click your MKV file and select Properties.

3. Click the "File Hashes" tab (provided by HashTab).

This will also give you CRC32 and MD5 checksums, but SHA-1 is the most modern/reliable checksum.

Do you happen to have the authoring tech to do a branched option on that sequence (a la Mike's archival/signature variants)? Of course that might open a whole can o' worms where other judgement calls have been necessary...

That is WAY more trouble than it's worth for a few seconds of goofy color timing.  Plus, enough additional evidence has been presented to cast doubt on the idea that this blue tint was what was seen in theaters in the first place.

Info: 1992 VHS Set - Star Wars Trilogy Special Letterbox Collector's Edition - any special and/or redeeming qualities?

AntcuFaalb, I wish I had seen this thread earlier as I have a copy of this in my basement that should be in very good shape - the tapes were played very few times.  I don't have a use for it, so I would be happy to ship it to you for any kind of preservation effort.  Any reason you need a second copy?
