Thanks so much Harmy and everyone else who helped make this!
Thanks so much Harmy and everyone else who helped make this!
I’ve used this one for a couple years: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-External-Blu-ray-SE-506CB-RSBD/dp/B00JJGFRIQ/
edit: huh, looks like they have a few low ratings since I purchased. Not sure if they had a bad batch or if people just don’t know what they’re doing. I’ve recommended it to people here before, and they got it and liked it.
Ok, thanks for the reference towne 😃 I’ll maybe look at some other software options and see what works best within the limited budget of a high school student haha
I put this Pioneer in my new PC build:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129075
It’s $63 now but was on sale for $54 when I bought it. It’s an internal drive though, not sure if you are looking for internal or USB.
Count me in, these look great, I’m particularly interested in the new version of the BD25 special feature disc that uses the original video and audio. I’m happy that I finally put a Blu-ray burner into the new PC I just built. 😃
You must be really out of the loop, because it’s not being released to the public. If it was Mike would face legal action from Disney. Our best hope it that Disney adopts it for an official re-release of Star Wars.
I have some hope for that. Given that Disney takes no action against Harmy, Adywan, or 1negative_team, I find it curious that they would make such threats against Mike. Obviously, Mike’s work is on a much grander scale than any of those I just mentioned, but perhaps they have a desire to use it for their own re-release.
Yes, the news that Mike has shared recently is encouraging. As for the legal action, Disney has been tolerant thus far. And though Harmy’s work is amazing, it’s still a patchwork of various sources. Legacy is a pristine 4K scan/restoration taken directly from multiple 35mm copies of the original 1977 Star Wars. It is so flawless that its release would render any attempt by Disney to re-release the original film nearly moot. That’s why I think that Mike has been warned about the potential consequences of a release. On the flip side, Mike has effectively already done all their restoration work for them, so I’m optimistic that they will adopt Legacy, and hopefully offer Mike some well-deserved compensation for all his hard work.
The videos on Vimeo are awesome. Are there more shots completed other than those?
The entire movie is complete. I believe this has actually been screened once or twice.
Wow I’m so out of the loop. That’s awesome news. Are there plans to release it to the public soon?

I’m willing to wait until the end of time for this release!
So now I’m praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta watch another SE release
I don’t think that I can really survive
😃

Once Disney finally gets the mindset that this is basically ‘found money’, it will happen. Quite frankly, I’m fairly certain just given the lengths Disney goes to to please fans that this is a fait accompli. Perhaps the only thing left to decide is a release date. Mid 2016 to tie in with the Blu-ray of The Force Awakens? Or Christmas 2016 when Rogue One is in cinemas? Or May 2017 for the 40th Anniversary? It’s when, not if at this point.
I just hope they are smart enough to use Mike Verta’s work on Legacy when this happens.
Her only complaint was the lack of female characters. I quote:
“The only other female was the aunt and all she did was put some cabbage in a blender and then got killed!”
OMG spoiler alert!!! 😉

My (now) 5-year-old has just seen the original, restored Star Wars for the first time. In a theater. He freaked the fuck out. It is now, predictably, all Star Wars, all the time, in the house.

I have watched this already three times and can't get enough of how good this looks and sounds. I just wish I had a way to burn it to a blu ray.

The '93 mix of ESB contains a few glitches, so I did a bit of restoration work on it since it was the primary source for the new 5.1. This includes declipping, declicking, and noise removal, all with iZotope RX 3; as well as patching editing mistakes in the laserdisc source. I shall therefore upload this corrected copy in AC3 form to be included in the MKV.
Thanks for another awesome release Harmy (and hairy_hen and everyone else)! My daughter is old enough for Empire now so it's timely. Summer is busy but I'm sure we'll watch it by the end of the year.

Great, thanks! I'll need that information when writing the NFOs.

OK, I don't have much for you guys for May the 4th but some of you will be pleased to hear that v2.5 is now available as a DVD9 AVCHD (to be found at the usual place).

What do they do to you if you only have an LCD that goes up to 60hz?
Not that I would know anything about that,or know anyone who would know anything about that.
Usually you can escape from them when they're facepalming, so you'll be fine.
Also bear in mind that 120 Hz TVs that accept 24 FPS can show the same frame 5 times instead of doing the 3:2 cadence, which is a bit smoother. So there is a potential benefit if you can avoid converting to 60 Hz with 3:2 before sending to high-refresh rate displays.

How so? The video stream from the MKV is MPEG4/AVC/h264. He only needs tsmuxer.
Or do you have DVD9 version in mind?
Feallan said:
Why make so many different versions? That's too much confusion for uninitiated. You can make AVCHD by yourself. :)

Harmy sir, could your new computer spit out an AVCHD version of v2.5, while we wait for the scripts to be finished? ;)
That'd be swell! :D
Thanks for your great work Harmy, I'm glad you have a better system now.
I found this comparison page which says that Movie Studio 12 can support 20 audio tracks, hopefully that applies to the bundled DVD Architect Studio as well.

Well, apparently, Encore doesn't support adding more than 8 audio tracks, so I'm gonna have to use something else to author the BD - I think I'll try MultiAVCHD but I find it a bit confusing.
I'm pretty familiar with the Star Wars SE and the various ridiculous changes it contains. In the case of Star Wars, Harmy's release is the clear choice to watch. But then I thought about TESB and realized that I'm not nearly as familiar with the SE. In fact I'm not even sure I've ever watched it. I know there are less changes than in Star Wars.
So, here's a curious question - do you feel that there are "showstopper" changes (like Greedo shooting first or the awful CGI Jabba) in the Blu-ray TESB SE that mandate watching Harmy's version? Or is it more just a preference for seeing the original theatrical version of the film?
PS: This question is not meant to detract from the amazing work Harmy is doing, it's great that he has made an original version available for us to view.
Harmy,
I saw Star Wars at a drive-in theater in 1977. My daughter, who will be turning 8 in a couple of months, just watched Star Wars (DeEd v2.1) for the first time. She said she loved it. Thank you so much for making it possible for me to share this piece of my childhood with her.
