That looks fantastic! š
That looks fantastic! š
The colours look great; I didnāt see any artefacts or any visual issues at all. Nicely done!
Thatās very interesting! Over the last few years Iāve heard many attempts at recreations, but your version is the first Iāve heard with the audio from the āFrom Star Wars to Jediā documentary. Nicely done!
Very nice colours!
Hereās my quick attempt at restoring the Tosche Station scenes:
this looks incredible!
Iāve done a preliminary color correction over the whole scene with some shot-for-shot sprinkled in.
this is just preliminary and is still a WIP. itāll get better when Williarob releases a better quality final version.

edit: top: Original Bottom: Corrected
The technology already exists; there are people already doing amazing restoration work on deleted scenes.
Is the Episode V Revisited āCanon Friendlyā audio mix still available? Iād love to use it in an edit! š
I just watched the preview video for v2; the colours look great - did you adjust the engine glow for the Falcon? If so, itās a nice touch!
It was also great to see the moving starfield in the cockpit shot of the Falcon, as well as the radar dish in the docking bay scene, but the best of all was the manoeuvres Han does to evade the Star Destroyer!
One thing I did notice was the SE audio during the search for the droids; you can still hear the small patrol droidās sounds from the SE, however no droid is visible on-screen.
The revised colours look fantastic; I also noticed the new background, the new blaster effects, and the Probe Droid steadily moving ā all of which look great!
Adywan:
Do you have any plans on changing the Lightsaber that Artoo shoots out to Luke during the Sail Barge sequence? The close-up shot shows the stunt Lightsaber, with the completely flat top, whereas the āheroā Lightsaber has the emitter piece at the top.
Itās only a very small detail (and is on-screen for a very short time), however I was simply curious as to whether or not youāll change this detail.
Amazing colour grading work by the way ā it genuinely looks amazing!
Thatās looking great! š
Thanks CatBus - Iām glad to hear that! š
Thanks for the extra information ā that is interesting to know! š
Oh and have you told the fans over at the Star Wars Trilogy forum? They have an audio archive section ā Iām sure theyād love to know about this unique version of ROTJ.
I finished watching this dub today, and wanted to say thanks for sharing it ā itās a fantastic dub! It was a nice surprise to hear the different foley work done for this dubbing, alongside the actual voice dubbing itself.
Out of curiosity, was this dub only ever done for the 1988 Japanese TV broadcast, and not released on LaserDisc, VHS or DVD?
If so, I imagine that the only way to obtain this dub would have been via recoding it onto a blank VHS tape when ROTJ was broadcast?
Have you asked Wraith at the IFDB? He released a fan edit of the most complete version of the Godfather series anyone has made to date, by gathering all known versions of the trilogy.
He would be your best bet for information on any television broadcast versions!
Thanks for the in-depth explanation! This has cleared up some questions I had about the source of audio found in various restoration and preservation projects.
So, āmatrixed stereoā is a stereo mix encoded in a special fashion where, if you pass it through a proper Dolby ProLogic decoder, you can get four-channel audio. The Laserdisc audio can be decoded in this way to get true multichannel. The six-channel reconstructions are based on this four-channel decode of Laserdisc audio, and for the past several releases has used a proper professional-grade decoder for that work. We also have in-theater recordings of the six-channel mix, which arenāt an audio source per se, but allow us to know which slight variations of sound effects happened, and when. The LFE is a bit of a best-guess, using some SE when it aligns with theatrical effects.
This work is all based on the theory that the six-channel and stereo mixes were based on the same four-track master audio, which has at this point been proven enough through various audio discoveries to be considered fact. Thereās a lot of archaeology in this as wellā¦
Keep in mind that, at the time, only the Star Wars six-channel mix even attempts to match any unique 70mm six-channel content. That may change, but right now Empire and Jedi are more like ātasteful and respectful upmixesā than 70mm mixes ā although they may end up being extremely similar to their respective 70mm mixes, due to the shared lineage of the four-channel master.
ProLogic decoding canāt get you literally back to the discrete six-channels on a 70mm print. For one thing, thereās still a bit of channel bleedover that would not be present on a 70mm print, the other is of course the missing two LFE channels*. But these things were done with love. Itās not at all like those Blu-ray mono-to-5.1 upmixes which kill the soul of the original audio. It can be done well, and in this case, itās been done in an exemplary fashion.
* The original 70mm six-channel audio was 4.2, not 5.1. It was L, C, R, and a single surround, plus two LFE channels. So a four-channel ProLogic decode gives you everything except the LFE. Since 5.1 is far more compatible with modern playback systems, thatās how itās encoded for these preservations.
Iāve just read your shot list; I was wondering, do you think you might use the deleted scene of General Veersā AT-AT being destroyed? There is grey, black & white footage of him and the two drivers in the cockpit about to be rammed head-on by a speeder.
The dub sounds great! š
Iām looking forward to seeing this version!
How is this project coming along? Iām keen to see it once itās finished!
That looks great! š
For a fan edit Iām doing of Attack Of The Clones, Iām experimenting with altering the appearance of Palpatine in the deleted scene where Padme addresses the Senate.
Since the makeup applied to Ian McDiarmid during this scene not only doesnāt match the rest of AOTC, but his appearance doesnāt match how heās later seen in ROTS either. Iām aiming for an appearance that is more in-line with ROTS, by removing the liver spots and making him less gaunt and overly pale.
This is just a test so far, however if it goes well, Iāll expand it to alter a few other faces in different SW films.
Any word on if the police can get your computer back, or are they still holding off on taking any action?
I donāt know if this is where to post this⦠Mods feel free to move.
UPDATE: Editing halt
so in June my Mac studio which I do all my work on randomly short-circuited even though it was only like 2 years old. Thankfully due to Appleās kindness, I was able to recover my stuff and put it on a newly bought replacement. But Mac Killer struck again a mere two months later. My Mac was in my luggage bag when I traveled to Orlando aswell as when I left. once I arrived at JFK and picked my bag up to go back home, I realized something; the dent the Mac Studio box makes when in my bag wasnāt there anymore and neither was the lock. I opened it up, and lo and behold it was gone. I immediately contacted the airline, followed by airport security, and finally a report to the police. they located my computer using Find My, but itāll take at least a month before they can act on it for some reason. so yeah sorry for the big delay to my edits. hopefully editing and work in general can continue in December.also thanks Samsonite for your crap locks!
BTW: I bought a new MacBook to use as my main machine temporarily. but by the looks of it, it might be more than temporary.
Fantastic! Iām looking forward to seeing this dubbed version. š
Thatās fantastic! Thanks for sharing this! š
What a stressful situation to find yourself inā¦I hope that you get your computer back!
