Would you want a clip to correct the continuity error of Ki-Adi-Mundi’s Lightsaber changing colour? In the film it goes from blue, to green, then back to blue. I can send you a clip where it stays blue the whole time if you like?

Mate that looks fantastic! 😃 The only reason that I left the colours untouched on the deleted scenes, was so that other people could then adjust the colours as they see fit. I would love to see what other people do with the deleted scenes!

The only scene that I adjusted the colours on was Padme addressing the senate, as that had a green tint applied to it, which I removed. I also adjusted the shadow levels and highlights on the scene of Padme & Anakin on trial, as a majority of the details in that scene were far too dark and not really visible.

For my own AOTC edit, I have left the colours on the Obi-Wan & Mace scene as they are, however I may revisit it, as the cooler colours really look great.

That detail on Obi-wan’s face on the landing platform for example is pretty unreal. I made some comparisons and believe that you have achieved a new gold standard on upscaling these.

The shots that no upscale can unfortunately make look good are the establishing shots that are very low detail/ poorly rendered in the original footage (senate dome, Naboo shots). But some detail adding/guessing AI could help improve those.

Yeah it’s a shame that the backgrounds were never properly finished. I think that fans with experience in Blender and VFX software such as Nuke would be able to replace the backgrounds, however it’s a mammoth task.
I did some tests with rotoscoping the landing platform scene with Obi-Wan and Mace, to see if a different background could then be inserted. To say that rotoscoping is a nightmare of a job would be the understatement of the year haha! I’ll have to leave that job to the VFX professionals!

If I may give a few suggestions for the updated version that I believe you are working on: In the new VFX shot of Obi tracking Jango, you might consider giving Geonosis- planet a zoom out/zoom in- effect instead of it moving up on the screen or adding easing to the motion. When Anakin has a breakdown at homestead and says “Why couldn’t I save her. I know I could have!”, I suggest that you cut the shot just a little bit earlier. Now you can see Anakin starting to move to the left, but it the next shot he sits down, witch is a bit jarring cut.

I like all of those suggestions!
With the new VFX shot, I made the planet move up so as to tie in with the previous shot in the film, which shows the starfighter slightly drifting downwards. I’m happy to revisit the shot – I do like the idea of adding a zoom-in effect!

With the scene of Anakin in the homestead, your suggestion makes perfect sense – I will revisit that scene and alter the timing of the cut.

Also the voice of Jarjar is little muffled / echo-y in the Padme’s apartment scene. Some AI voice cleaner tool might be helpful with that, at least Adobe has a free one called “Enhanced speech”.

With the redubbed dialogue, I unfortunately don’t have an external microphone, so I recorded the audio solely with the in-built microphone on my laptop, which isn’t a great microphone at all haha! It resulted in a lot of reverb in the audio, which wasn’t intentional. I’ll revisit the audio, and see if I can get it sounding better.

All in all, nice job!

Yes mate, my plan is to to ‘Streamlined’ edits of the original 6 Episodes. Episode 2 is done, Episode 1 is being rebuilt, and the updated VFX for Episode 3 is around 95% finished.

Yes, I have plans to finish off that scene. It got put on hold so I could finish my AOTC edit, as well as the AOTC deleted scenes and other projects I’m doing. The scene is around 85% complete; all of the SFX has been finished, a new background plate has been done, plus I rotoscoped Mace and Jango from the deleted scene on the Blu-ray bonus disc, and started on the final VFX.

What is left to do is to animate the leg of the background Super Battle Droid (so it’s not a static image), add in Mace’s Lightsaber, do a colour-correction on Mace and Jango so that they blend in better with the new background plate, plus finish off how Jango dies. I do want to have Jango’s left arm to be sliced off by Mace, however doing that would add a considerable amount of extra work to the scene…It may well be easier to leave his arm unharmed! In order to make the scene different to the original, it would be good to have his arm sliced off though…I’ll see what I can do!

This scene has a lot of compression artifacts, which are most visible when looking at Captain Typho. I did three separate upscales, and combined them into one final video. I have also removed the green tint from the deleted scene, so it matches the final film.

Yeah its’ really that first part of the scene that looks off; even watching it on the Blu-ray (which is where I transferred it from) it doesn’t look right. I did the best I could with a poor-quality shot!

Another updated shot:

The deleted scene of Anakin speaking with Padme’s father has unfinished VFX; I’ve seen that several other editors simply zoom-in on the actors to cover over the unfinished parts. I’ve opted instead to create a set extension, to fill out the original scene.

The original video is quite blurry, so zooming in really doesn’t look good at all. Even after upscaling it, the video still doesn’t look amazing, but it’s not too bad overall.

Yeah there are lots of flipped shots in the film! In my edit, I’ve flipped just about all of the previously flipped / reversed shots. I’ve only shown two screen-shots above though – there would be too many shots to show here haha!

Some new VFX:

I have removed the asteroid field chase, and inserted a new scene of Obi-Wan tracking Jango Fett (thanks goes to greenturnedblue for the idea!).
The text in the cockpit’s display screens is newly written by me; the text in the original film was mostly gibberish, plus the right-side of the displays were simply a mirror image of the left side, which I have now corrected:

Since I have removed the battle in the asteroid field, and in order to avoid continuity errors, I have altered Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter to no longer have any blast damage:

Why is this thread not getting more attention, people tired of AOTC? 😄 Anyway, very interesting list of changes, some of them the very same ideas I have about the movie, and others totally different. Anakin rescuing Padme and droids removed in the factory scene is the only way to go with that scene if left in the movie imo. Then the scene shows Anakin actually protecting Padme (his job) and that act feeds to Padme’s feelings about him.

I’m interested to hear about your DS upscaling process. Did you use Topaz Labs and did you use some new settings to get better results than bryantmh’s deleted scenes? Or some other AI that can reach the Topaz’s quality? Could you maybe post some comparison screenshots?

In any case, I’m interested to check this out so please hit me with a PM!

It may well be the case that people are tired of AOTC, or it’s just not as popular as the other prequels haha! 😃

With regards to the deleted scenes, I initially used QTGMC to deinterlace them, plus I adjusted the framerate of the video and adjusted the speed of the audio. In Topaz, I ran quite literally hundreds of tests in order to achieve a high-quality output; it was a balancing act between having a clear, crisp image, and not introducing artifacts.
