Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Promus said:

Well, I've never really been a part of any Star Wars release, so this new blu-ray stuff doesn't really make me feel left-out at all. I actually don't own any of the movies on DVD (I just have the VHS copies) and I torrented the 2006 version of the OUT (the laserdisc transfers) so I wouldn't have to buy the whole set with the bastardized films in them and give any money to the powers-that-be.

I also torrented the GOUT, but for editing purposes only.  That's the only reason I torrent ANY movie: so I can use them in video edits.  My dad, apparently, is fine with that.  I own the VHS Faces set for the OOT as well.  I also have the Prequels and ROTJ FS SE on DVD.  I'm hoping to obtain some OOT Fan Preservation someday.

Do I want to be added to the list?  Hmmm...  I'll have to consult the Council of the Rats of NIMH.

This pledge is completely useless!  Two of Four is not at fault!

That settles it.  Add me to the list, please! ;)

If it doesn't have a tail, it's not a monkey.

Even if it has a monkey-kind of shape.

If it doesn't have a tail, it's not a monkey.

If it doesn't have a tail, it's not a monkey, it's an ape!

Bicycles don't have tails, therefore, they're apes.

Mice have tails, therefore, they're monkeys.

Kites have tails, therefore, they're monkeys.

The Millennium Falcon doesn't have a tail, therefore, it's an ape.

I'm leaving again.
Time

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for this thread: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/What-do-you-want-to-see-if-George-Lucas-cared-died/topic/13277/

I wasn't considering the consequences when I made the thread title.  I just want to say that I no longer look forward to Lucas' death.  I'm praying that he'll change his mind about the OOT and offer official releases that will blow both Harmy's Despecialized Edition and Dark_Jedi's Project Blu right out of the water.

I also hold no grudge with the OT.com members.  You guys are a great bunch to hang around.

That being said, I've found that I have nothing (that's ABSOLUTELY nothing) to contribute to this forum.  My two original reasons for joining both seem to be null and void.  The first reason was something that would've better been brought up on a Secret of NIMH forum, and the other, I can't do because my dad sees it as piracy.  I may visit this forum again, after I've grown up, to download and review a fan preservation like Dark_Jedi's, but that may be a while.

Goodbye, OT.com....

If it's anything less than the individual release specs, I'll turn to the fan preservations.

So what would you like to see, at the very minimum?  How about ideally?

The bit that worries me is the "digital restoration" of Raiders. I wasn't a fan of the original Lowry cleanup and tweaks made at that point...so since the CGI cliff was rejected...what exactly did they do?

Raiders is being done by the same outfit that did Gladiator (the remaster, not the original), Saving Private Ryan, and Minority Report. All are stunning on Blu-ray.

I have very high hopes for Indiana Jones on Blu-ray, and unlike another upcoming release, I'll be buying the set on day one, whenever that is.

I'll get Indiana Jones on Blu-Ray, too!  The only thing that bugs me is the lack of the dust on the glass that was originally seen.  Harmy? *bats eyelids pleadingly*

Aren't the fan edits considered piracy?

You do know there are a couple of fanedit forums here, right?

Yes I'm aware, but I'm wondering how safe it would be from the suits?

My dad's wondering the same thing.  Well, in the context of the fan preservations, not fan edits.

The question is: Are fan edits/preservations REALLY piracy?  My dad thinks so.  But maybe he's right, though.  Maybe the fan edits/preservations ARE piracy, and we're just blind to that fact.  And that sucks so badly, that the botched official releases are the only ones I'm allowed to own. >:(

Is owning a '95 Faces VHS set bought from Goodwill enough to qualify getting Dark_Jedi's DVDs?  Or do I have to own the GOUT?  I'd be more than happy to buy the GOUT if it's required.

Not until you buy the laserdiscs.

I don't have a laserdisc player.  I think it'd be cheaper just to buy the GOUT DVDs.

You don't need a player to make yourself feel better about downloading fan-edits.......just the discs.

True true.

But what about the tapes I already own?  Do they count?

No, burn them immediately.

But then how will I watch Star Wars with my brother in the middle of the night in my room?  All we have up there is a VHS player.

You must, or else the self destruct on the vhs tapes will detonate.

SELF-DESTRUCT BUTTON!!!

Oh, well.  I'll have to convince my dad to get the GOUT.  Perhaps our family's next pass at Bookman's I'll look for the GOUT DVDs.  I'll tell dad my plan beforehand, explaining about fan-edit rules, and pray he says yes.  Otherwise...  No!  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

And it's not to make me feel better about downloading fan edits.  It's to make the download "legal" by fan-edit standards.
