I think replacing an entire performance with AI is ehhh…I’m not in favor of it.
I think replacing an entire performance with AI is ehhh…I’m not in favor of it.
If you have to bring back the younglings scene, I would suggest editing it like l8wrtr where the scene is played wordlessly. However, I tend to agree with others that reinstating the references without showing the scene itself is a better move.
One thing that bothered me personally is Din essentially reverting to distrusting droids in the Plazir-15 episode when he had shown character growth on that front in the past. If there’s a way to imply that his prejudice is reserved for the separatist battle droids I think that would make more sense.
So I might sound utterly stupid but… Is there a release of Adywan’s Rotj or am I just crazy… and if not, when?.
No there isn’t, and we don’t know yet. ANHR:HD will release first, and after that It may take several more years. Adywan takes his time on these projects.
This had me intrigued until I saw that you have kept the Coruscant plot that went nowhere and only exists to show that the NR are just as evil as the empire were and also the ridiculous Lizzy and Jack Black subplot.
Have you cut any scenes out or is it just rearranging everything?
I’m going to disagree with this. Too many edits use the hammer when the scalpel will do. I like that you’re focus on restructuring and making targeted edits rather than cutting this thing to shreds.
I mean, the length of Ewan MacGregor’s beard changes noticeably between scenes in AOTC. I feel like I can forgive it personally. To me, the difference in cinematography is still the biggest argument against the scene fitting in, but I think it’s “good enough” for many edits at this point.
I enjoyed season 3 for the most part but putting Din and Grogu’s reunion in TBoBF was a bizarre decision and really hurt the season.
How do you plan to create the new dialogue scenes?
Here’s something interesting I came across. While I do agree that I’m not a fan of the high pitched voices for the battle droids, and while most of it has been removed from this edit, there are still some bits and pieces you can hear it. This guy here attempts to replace them all using voice clips taken from video games from the 2000s such as the original Battlefront games and the Revenge of the Sith game.

I think the mixing needs some work but I like the idea of matching the droid voices to the rest of the trilogy, especially since you can still hear the squeaky voices at a few points in Labyrinth of Evil.
What exactly is a “respecialized” version?
HD Reconstruction of the 1997 special edition. And afaik Harmy only did ANH but I believe there are reconstructions of the other two out there.
Haha, that is Hal’s actual voice! Unless we want to make an AI voice or Hal to use for edits forever.
To be fair, I think ifjg is referring to the “Padme dies” version, which uses the original audio, not Hal’s redub.
Any chance you would put Yoda’s exile into Dagobah into the Padme Dies version? Revenge of the Sith: Rebalanced found a nice spot for it with interrupting the flow of the ending.
This looks great! I would recommend adding a film grain filter as well to really capture the look.
All this AI dialogue stuff sounds really promising. I definitely think we could generate some stuff specifically for the Rey Nobody version as well.
Just gave V1.1 a watch. Bravo! I think this has supplanted Restructured as my go-to Force Awakens edit at this point.
I wonder if just speeding it up slightly and mixing it with the original delivery would work.
To be fair, I was dragged reluctantly (mostly by my own self, but still) into fan editing TROS, which is an inherently optimistic endeavor. I still feel like all TLJ needs is an epilogue to feel like a good ending.
Hmmm…this makes me wonder if you could create a good epilogue to TLJ using footage from TROS. I’m not sure what you would even include.

I pulled that sound effect from TROS because in my world TROS doesn’t exist 😉 But of course if it bugs people, I can remove it. I feel like Rey should have some reaction to Chewie’s apparent death though.
Are you planning to make Starlight a duology? I’d be interested in a version of The Last Jedi that conclusively works as an ending.
This is really intriguing! Do you have any preview clips?
Resistance is ripe for this kind of edit, but unlike the other two I feel like it has very little imprint on Star Wars canon overall (at least so far). The ties to the sequel trilogy don’t really do much to recontextualize those movies.
Nobody’s given me any feedback yet. I think you’ll just have check it out yourself or wait until more people have watched it.
I’ll be that guy. Because, in many ways, I AM that guy.
But first, I apologize if I took the thread the wrong way. I’m here to answer the question as presented. If this was just a matter of venting frustration, just skip my response, because it’s really not going to help.
I agree with you, and this is why, as much as I like the 4K projects, Ohteedee’s D+ versions are my go-to for actually watching the movies until Despecialized 3.0 eventually happens. They aren’t fully accurate, but the image quality is a lot better.
I know you’ve probably gotten this question plenty of times before, but have you given any thought to a Rebels: Refocused? Rebels is probably going to become much more relevant with the Ahsoka series on the horizon. Unfortunately, I think Rebels is harder to reshape because the progression is significantly more linear, but I’ve had friends that have complained that the first season in particular is hard to get through.
This edit has been revived and completed as Sonic the Hedgehog DX:

Just a heads up that I’ve added the LaserDisc audio courtesy of Greg Z to my PAL DVD-sourced upscaled 1080p release. You now have the option to select the uncompressed Laserdisc digital audio or the 5.1 AC3 audio from the NTSC DVD. The release is available in the same place.
It could allow us to try the “3PO never gets his memory back” idea.
