I’m playing with the idea of removing Darth Maul from every scene after Tattooine until he shows up for the duel. I think it’s kind of a neat idea to sort of forget about him for a while and then those doors open. It makes him showing up a bit more epic. All he does in the other scenes is stand behind Nute Gunray anyway.

In the meantime, for anyone interested in this, I made an unofficial alternate audio track with the Temuera Morrison voice lines (with better line delivery taken from various other media) and Obi-Wan calling Yoda “A Jedi Master who instructed me” rather than “The Jedi Master”. These changes were borrowed from Hal9000’s edit. PM me if you want the link.
I apologize that I haven’t gotten the change to watch your workprint yet, but the changelist sounds excellent! My only reservation is that I think it would be much better to cut/down remove the Obi-Wan/Jango fistfight on the landing platform than the asteroid battle sequence. The original “Attack of the Phantom” actually removes both, but I generally find that I miss the space battle more. Just a thought.

It definitely feels more visceral! There are a couple cuts that seem to break the 180 degree rule in a way that I found a bit jarring, but that may be inherent to the source. Interesting choice to remove Yoda completely.
Interesting! I know you said it’s not finished, but I just want to point out you can still hear the original 3PO voice muttering something in the overhead shot.
In addition to your “Quality Cut” and “Filoniverse Cut” would you consider putting together a “Skywalker Cut” for people who are interested only in episodes that directly connect to or enrich the Skywalker saga films? I’ve been thinking lately about how to incorporate Clone Wars into a marathon viewing but even your “quality cut” is really a lot to tackle.

I think that’s a really important element to his downfall. It doesn’t work entirely the way it’s presented in the films, but I definitely think it’s worth keeping.

Those are pretty good too, and might help with getting a consistent look across all three films.
I think it works pretty well. I’d definitely show this to someone not interested in watching Rebels (although they should, lol).
Personally I’d be interested in a movie (or miniseries?) focused on the Kenobi/Maul arc from Clone Wars and ending with this. It would be a cool way to include that stretch of story in a marathon viewing when you don’t have time to even watch Clone Wars Refocused.

Yes, I agree. What source are you using? I definitely recommend Schorman’s HDTV preservation for Episode II, as it has superior colors and detail. I think it also blends better with the AI upscaled versions of the deleted scenes.
Excited to see you take this on! The new opening flows pretty well overall. I’ll never understand why Corde says that she “failed” Padme when her job was literally to be a decoy but that’s definitely a nitpick. The JarJar CGI in the deleted scene also looks rough but I’m not sure much can be done about that.

No slander. And that’s exactly why (pacing) I think the film is better off without his scene. I don’t mind the character, but I do find the CGi overwhelming.

Here’s my first go at the scene, taking a combination of what a lot of others have done here. I did it for an AOTC edit I’m working on, but I’m fine with anyone using this in their edits if they care to.
I mixed it in 5.1, but only the center/left/right have sound, so theoretically if someone wanted to use this you could add more ambient noise or repeat the right/left on the surround channels for fuller music.

I love the choice of music cues. Feels perfect for the scene.
The insert shot does the job I suppose, however I still despise the attitude Obi-Wan is giving Anakin. He is basically blaming Anakin for wanting to win their training duel, but behaves like a child that lost a game and insist on playing on until they have won themself.
I mean to be fair I think the duel tracks with both of their characterizations in AOTC. Anakin is impulsive and hotheaded and Obi-Wan is didactic and overbearing.
I think replacing an entire performance with AI is ehhh…I’m not in favor of it.
If you have to bring back the younglings scene, I would suggest editing it like l8wrtr where the scene is played wordlessly. However, I tend to agree with others that reinstating the references without showing the scene itself is a better move.
One thing that bothered me personally is Din essentially reverting to distrusting droids in the Plazir-15 episode when he had shown character growth on that front in the past. If there’s a way to imply that his prejudice is reserved for the separatist battle droids I think that would make more sense.

No there isn’t, and we don’t know yet. ANHR:HD will release first, and after that It may take several more years. Adywan takes his time on these projects.
This had me intrigued until I saw that you have kept the Coruscant plot that went nowhere and only exists to show that the NR are just as evil as the empire were and also the ridiculous Lizzy and Jack Black subplot.

I’m going to disagree with this. Too many edits use the hammer when the scalpel will do. I like that you’re focus on restructuring and making targeted edits rather than cutting this thing to shreds.
I mean, the length of Ewan MacGregor’s beard changes noticeably between scenes in AOTC. I feel like I can forgive it personally. To me, the difference in cinematography is still the biggest argument against the scene fitting in, but I think it’s “good enough” for many edits at this point.
I enjoyed season 3 for the most part but putting Din and Grogu’s reunion in TBoBF was a bizarre decision and really hurt the season.
How do you plan to create the new dialogue scenes?
Here’s something interesting I came across. While I do agree that I’m not a fan of the high pitched voices for the battle droids, and while most of it has been removed from this edit, there are still some bits and pieces you can hear it. This guy here attempts to replace them all using voice clips taken from video games from the 2000s such as the original Battlefront games and the Revenge of the Sith game.

I think the mixing needs some work but I like the idea of matching the droid voices to the rest of the trilogy, especially since you can still hear the squeaky voices at a few points in Labyrinth of Evil.
