Oh. So you're intepretting "Avatar" as an Iraq War analogy? I think that's stretching the material a bit.
Really? I have no doubt that Avatar was meant, by Cameron and most other people involved, to be an Irag War analogy.
No doubt whatsoever.
OK, I just read that Cameron make some remarks where he explcitly states that was his goal. But he sure did a piss poor job of it.
Everything the Iraq War is about is absent. Iraq is not based on some touchy-feely environementalism and a failure of two peoples to communicate. Even the staunchest opponents of the war wouldn't make that claim.
Now, if Avatar it was set in the Starship Troopers universe, and after the bugs destroy Buenos Aires THEN humans go invade Avatarworld as retribution, that would be a better analogy.
But just having a character say "there's some resource we want" and using the term "shock and awe" doesn't impart some kind of powerful political meaning into the film.
I declare "epic fail" if Cameron thought he had something relevant to say on Iraq.
You know what i agree with you. AVATAR as a message on the war on terror is one giant epic fail.
Yeah I don't really see that either. I think the whole "shock and awe" thing was just kind of thrown into there, but I doesn't really seem to work.

So...Romeo must Die is a racist film because the two protagonists didn't kiss at the end of the film?
Really? Really?
I think they're refrencing what is seem by some as a de-sexifying of Asian men in American movies.
Asian men can kick some ass, but they cant get the girl (look at Jackie Chan).
I've heard people make the claim, but I've never given much thought to how true it might be.
For what it's worth, does Jet Li or Jackie Chan (or any other Asian dude) ever get the girl?
I saw a doc about portrayal of Asians in Hollywood and apparently Jet Li was going to get the girl in some movie but test audiences didn't like it so they cut it out at the last minute.

I love the film True Lies. Hollywood people don't have the balls to make a film like that these days. Even Cameron has become an apologist with AVATAR.
Seriously. You just cant get any bad-guy Arabs in the mainstream leftist media anymore, not like the good old days. On an unrelated note, when does the new season of 24 start?
And Cameron needs to get his wimpy politics out of my entertainment. To imply that forced relocation and genocide is bad makes me sick.
I c wat u did thar
For the record I agree with TheBoost. Racism is still a serious issue and people pointing it out in film is certainly not a bad thing, even if they sometimes they read into things a bit too much. Personally I was a bit uncomfortable with Avatar more for the "White man's fantasy/Noble Savage" angle than anything else.

Mass Effect 2 will only make sense for those who chose Liara in the first game if they read the comic Redemption. Which is only has 3 issues released out of 4 at the moment.
Probably more novels and dlc to fill in the blanks.
I don't want to read that because I want to know just as little as my Shepard does in game. After ME3 ends I will read the expanded Universe stuff

Man I hate the uniforms so much. The only ones I like are Kirk's Admiral uniform (shirt part only), and the radiation suits that they held over for the next few films. The rec deck scene looks like a huge pajama party. I was also never a fan of the Next Generation uniforms.
Really? I for one, hate the uniforms they use from Khan on. My favorite design is the Star Trek XI uniforms

Yeah, there's other takes on the TOS theme out there, I just used one I had handy. That's why it's a "proof of concept" - just enough to figure out how to make it work. I'll leave it to FF to whip up the definitive version.

There's the straight audio of Shat that's the key to this.
I kind of like the track that's under there...

My thinking was that the visuals would look just like TOS up until the TMP theme kicks in, at which point the TMP title style takes over. We get thru the theme and credits, then do the TOS portion of the story patched together from the episodes, then dissolve to TMP time and get on with the film.
Of course, there's a lot of ways to do this. Again, my test was just to figure out how to get this alternate Shat audio back into the TOS theme without just lifting the TOS theme and speech from the series as is.
EDIT: Nevermind

OK, tell me what you think. I whipped this up in Audacity as a proof of concept. I had to chop up the vocals to get the pacing to match so I copied and pasted in bits of the undertone to smooth it out, but didn't do any audio finagling otherwise. I cut the TMP theme short because I didn't make any changes after that point...the test is for integrating the speech and TOS theme.
http://www.zizolfo.com/ff-trek-theme.mp3
The vocals are from the aforementioned audio book. The TOS theme is the season 2 version from a 3 disc set of TOS episode soundtracks and the TMP theme is obviously from that film.
You need to use a different rendition of the TOS theme, doesn't sound "reflective" enough. Also, try mixing the vocals a little higher.
Also, it would be great if you could link the audio clip of Kirk speaking so that others might give it a go.

I say use the the ST11 ending credits theme or the Horner theme instead of the Goldsmith theme. The Goldsmith theme is just too associated with TNG at this point IMO and it felt weird getting this new theme and then changing it again with ST2, only for it to re-emerge later.

It wasn't the story that made Halo CE great, it was gameplay, the expansive open world environments of Halo CE haven't been replicated in a Halo game since. The story was fun and servicable though. I agree that Halo 2 had a SLIGHTLY better plot in some instances but Gravemind was a WEAK character and totally unnecessary IMO. Halo 3 had good gameplay but a meh plot.

Yeah, the only thing about ME is the choices. I would probably want to find a script or something on the Internet and plan that out ahead of time. The other thing is the gameplay sequences, I would have to find a way to cut some of those together to bridge cutscenes.

Have any of you guys played the game Mass Effect? It’s a great Sci-Fi based Role playing game with echoes of Star Wars and Star Trek, the game is very cinematic with lots of story sequences and great voice acting. Anyway, I thought it might be cool to cut together scenes from the game into a movie, about 2 or 3 hours in length. Only problem is I have no feckin’ idea where I’d start. I’ve done editing before but this would just be a massive undertaking. Just trying to gage if there’s any interest in this.
