TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

I recently watched DigMod’s Heir to the Force edit, and I liked the aspect of keeping Ren’s helmet on—and not outright saying who his father is—until the confrontation on the bridge. It made me somewhat wish there was a mashup between that edit and this one.

I REALLY don’t like this concept, so I’m glad this edit is not going to include it. No offense to Digimod’s work, he did it well, but I think it would be best left up to another editor to combine these change.

Neverar's A New Hope Technicolor Recreation (Final Version Released!)
Time

Just want to chime in and say that I thumbed through the release and watched sections of it and the colors are absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait for Harmy’s 3.0 so I can make a hybrid version (I still can’t stomach some of the SE changes enough for this to be a go-to).

Is there any chance for a V2 that you could put the 97 DTS track as the default? I know it’s a simple remux but if this release is supposed to represent the “best of the special edition” I think it should default to the track that is widely considered better in both content and quality.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

The Mos Eisley entrance in Revisited is far better than the SE version, but there are still quite a few goofy looking cg droids and creatures in the background. It would be really cool if this could be addressed, perhaps keying in some filmed extras in their place?

I’m also wondering if Ady has thought about reverting the scene where Han chases the stormtroopers down a corridor in the Death Star and encounters a group of them to the theatrical version? The SE version definitely amps up the absurdity but perhaps too much so.

2013 blu-ray+DVD “original trilogy” and “prequel trilogy” combo packs.
Time

Since I have the original DVDs and the complete saga blu-ray release, I never picked these up. I was wondering if anyone with these combo packs could share if the included DVDs are the original DVD releases or if they include the blu-ray changes to the films. They wouldn’t be useful for any kind of preservation since we have both versions in HD quality but I’m just curious.

Revenge of the Sith (The New Canon Cut) [ON HOLD INDEFINITELY]

Just finished watching, so here are my thoughts.

 • The opening space battle seems a bit too dark and contrast-y, IMO

 • I think the “never an elevator when you need one” line could be louder, and I don’t think Anakin’s reply is necessary

 • “Good view from up there” is very hard to hear, I’d make it quite a bit louder

 • “No loose wire jokes” could be a tad louder, Obi-Wan’s reply moreso

 • I like that Anakin greets Palpatine. Very small change, but I think it makes the dialogue feel more natural
 • I don’t think “I was about to say that” works
 • I really like how you re-edited the Dooku battle, the omission of Anakin’s yells, particularly; it makes him seem much more powerful and Vader-like

 • I like Anakin’s laugh when the ship lands

 • “So we doing this or what?” could be ever-so-slightly louder, but it’s not a huge issue
 • The rescoring of Anakin and Padme’s reunion was done beautifully
 • “Hey” could be a bit louder
 • “You’ve fought many battles the Jedi thought were lost…” is a good change, and was done very well
 • The cutting of “…master” from “Forgive me, master,” was pretty rough. If it’s too hard to fix, I’d say it just isn’t worth removing, and perhaps it could even make sense for Anakin to be more ‘submissive’ when speaking to Windu

 • I feel like switch between Anakin and Padme laughing to a serious political discussion is too sudden. I think it’s because the “what’s the matter” is in a playful tone. What I’d do is maybe start their laughing a little bit earlier in the establishing shot, giving a greater pause between the laughing and Anakin asking what’s wrong; and replace his silly “what’s the matter” with something similar, albeit asked more seriously (if you can find an audio clip that fits)

 • Anakin’s response to Padme’s question doesn’t seem like a real answer. It seems like they’re having 2 different conversations, IMO. Perhaps cut the “sometimes I wonder what’s happening to the Jedi order,” line

 • I really hate the “hold me like you did on the lakes of Naboo” monlogue, and I’d love for it to be cut

 • I like the Pazaak music

 • The changes to the opera scene were subtle, but well done

 • Anakin agreeing that Obi-Wan should go to Utapau makes him seem much more mature

 • I really like what you’ve done with Obi-Wan’s “farewell” scene

 • The way you’ve re-done the Palpatine revalation scene really does make Anakin seem more autonomous

 • I love everything you’ve done with the birth of Vader scene

 • I like what you’ve done with Obi-Wan’s reaction to the security footage

Overall, it’s a damn good edit, and probably the best version of the movie there ever will be without totally overhauling it.

I pretty much agree with all of this, with one exception. The new ending does not work for me. I do like the idea of ending on Vader’s “birth”, but the original ending was so well edited (Vader’s tantrum notwithstanding). This version feels abrupt and a little hacked together, and the music doesn’t quite fit. What I would do is revert back to the original ending, except either use Hal9000’s Vader scream or use l8wrtr’s technique of fading out right after Vader says “yes, master”, skipping the tantrum entirely.

When I get to my version, I’ll probably use the “Padme lives” ending, but I don’t think its necessary for what you’re trying to do.

Another sidenote, it bothers me that there are no ALL CAPS terms in the crawl, since that’s a staple of Star Wars crawls.

EDIT: also, what happened to “I AM the Senate”. I wouldn’t normally propose leaving in a line due to meme status (I agree with the high ground being cut) but I genuinely liked that line.

Overall, although I definitely have some nitpicks and things I’d do differently, I really like what you’ve done here. Anakin’s character comes across much more in keeping with The Clone Wars and there are some pretty original ideas. I’d say the new lines in spots work well more often than not. I did notice one pretty major technical glitch. At 1:26:51 there’s a cut and we can see a single frame of another shot before the cut (It’s a shot of Obi-Wan).

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

I think some of the ANH:R graphics updates were a little excessive in the first place. They were made to make the film mesh more to the level of tech we see in the prequels, which aren’t part of Revisited anymore anyway. The new graphics and displays in ESB:R are a lot more subtle, and imo are better for it.

EDIT: as the Millennium Falcon is supposed to be an old hunk of junk, wouldn’t it make sense that the targeting displays are primitive looking?

As for the Death Star plans, why not have it start with the centered dish, then cycle through a few designs when R2 is plugged in, ending on the correct one.

Later, during the briefing, use the correct design but keep the slightly more primitive “look” of the graphics.

I feel like the ANH:R graphics were too pretty and clashed with the used universe aesthetic of the film. I wouldn’t mind graphics that are a bit more low-fi but still fixed the dish placement. It would be a shame to break continuity with Rogue One but the blue TIES and red bacta in ESB:R already kind of do.

I guess one big question we should ask Ady before making a bunch of radical suggestions is:

Do you intend for ROTJ:R to be like ANH:R and ESB:R, in that it’ll be the “Special Edition that should have been,” or do you intend to make more dramatic editing decisions this time around?

I mean, if you’re definitely not doing any major “fan edit-y” restructuring or anything, then suggesting the reinstatement of deleted scenes, moving Dagobah to pre-Tatooine, etc. are pointless suggestions. Not that saying you won’t be doing any of that will stop everyone from suggesting such things, but it’ll reign a good chunk of us in.

Of course, if you are planning more major changes this time around, I’ve gotta throw my hat in the ring for the Jerjerrod’s Conflict scenes to be reinstated.

Personally, I’d like to see something in between. I don’t want to see too much cutting of existing scenes because every scene is precious to some Star Wars fan. However, I wouldn’t mind some reshuffling, tweaking and adding additional content to improve some of the weak points.

If someone wanted to make a more severe cut of ROTJ they could easily use Revisited as a starting point.

Why do we keep talking about the Prowse documentary being a possibility? David Prowse is 82 years old. How would that be better then Shaw in any way?

Because we’re not using the prequel timeline?

The Prequel Trilogy is here to stay as a permanent part of the Star Wars canon whether you like them or not.

True, but Ady also doesn’t have to consider them canon, since these are his personal edits. Personally, I’d prefer he not add elements that blatantly contradict the other films though (moreso than already exist).

I prefer the pink engines for the X-Wings, but it’s worth pointing out that Rogue One also has light gray TIES and clear bacta, which ESB:R contradicts. This doesn’t personally bother me too much since you can headcanon suitable explanations. (TIES could be a later model, bacta could come in different colors or change color based on the lighting)

The Battle of Hoth was amazing and Cloud City looks gorgeous. Awesome work Ady. I was really impressed by how invisible and seamless most of the edits were, after a while I stopped looking for changes and just got sucked into the movie.

My only quibble is the Red Bacta since it contradicts Rogue One and Clone Wars but I’ll live with it (or make my own version).

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Extended Edition (Released)
Time

I’ve made an alternate version of this that also includes Hal9000’s revised ending from his Labyrinth of Evil edit in which Padme survives, plugging an infamous plot hole.

The alternate ending includes the following changes:
-a scene of Yoda communicating with the departed Qui-Gon Jinn is restored using audio from The Clone Wars
-Faneditor Hal9000’s own voice replaces that of the medical droid. His prognosis is not that Padme is dying, but rather that she will survive without ever fully recovering.
-Replaced Vader’s scream with the Russian dub, arguably making it a little less cheesy.
-Courtesy of Hundsdorfex, replaced shot of Tantive IV descending toward Naboo with the ship streaking through space.
-Trimmed dialogue aboard the Tantive IV to accommodate the idea that Padmé survives to travel to Alderaan with Leia.
-Replaced Padme’s funeral with the deleted scene of Yoda arriving on Dagobah.
-Padme is seen cradling an infant Leia on Alderaan, using footage from The Other Boleyn Girl, with her eye color corrected by Hundsdorfex. (Idea by ‘The Cutter,’ also used in Q2’s edit.)

-A Plot to Destroy the Jedi?

I agree there is a repetitive aspect to this scene with the “situation room during Grievous meeting with Obi” scene, but there is also a more layered concern about Palpatine. This scene, placed after the - long - overture was very good to set the mood of an uprising coup d’état from Palpatine. I think you should have inserted it (but I assume you’ll do that for your “real” edit of Episode III).

Yeah, I like this scene too, but I felt that with the war room scene unedited, it didn’t really work, and since this is supposed to be purely an extended edition, I didn’t want to do that. It will probably be in my full fan edit of episode III.
