Ideas: Re-edits for various movies
Time

OK, I tried to do this the right way on the off-topics forum, but no one really commented on it and I think its a good topic and would love to get feedback And since the transition is the star wars re-edits its not unfounded to be on this forum.

Clone War, Balance of the Force, Phantom Edits…

After watching magnolia’s re-edits and seeing how dramatically they improved the movie. What other movies (obviously Ep. I is the no-brainer) would you like to see re-editted to make a decent or good movie awesome?

My list…

1.) The Matrix series - I have heard they are releasing a new box set with 50 minutes extra footage for reloaded and since revolutions was shot at the same time with it, these movies could be fixed up to improve what works and what doesn’t. Basically there is so much there that is awesome to work with, it could turn out incredible if fixed up.

2. ) Brotherhood of the Wolf - the editing of this is terrible, but again there is so many scenes that your jaw will drop and others that you will fall asleep, the pacing is problematic and some of the aristocratic fluff is just wrong too.

3.) AI - This again had so much that was amazing and Kubrick’s vision was a dark one (Shining, Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut), but Spielberg made it more like E.T. with feel good-ness mixed in after Kubrick’s death (he would’ve been pissed)…the result is a mixed result movie that sometimes is dark and poignant and sometimes plodding and goofy.

4.) Dune - The theatrical release was a mess and I have heard there are edits out there, but damn there is some compelling story there if it was fixed.
I’ll think of more. And I am not talking about total reshoots, just working with the exisiting film and deleted scenes. BTW there is a fight scene taken out of brotherhood of the wolf that is sick and I have no idea why.

Again, I’d love to hear thoughts on my list and other movies you think could use some editing magic.

Episodes 7,8,9?
Time
OK there was the Rolling Stone interview years ago that said he'd do 3 before and 3 after. For a number of years I thought boht were lies as neither surfaced. Then we got the PT (and I am not sure I want them, though magnolia did an awesome job correcting much wrong). Well, I came across this on a thread...

____________________________________________________________________________________
Here we go,... Dark Horizons posted earlier this week that there is talk that there is preliminary movement on another trilogy in the Star Wars saga. Dark Horizons posted that the new trilogy would be Episode 7 ,8 and 9 and that Steven Spielberg would take over the Directorial duties and that George would continue to write. We do know that Steven has mentioned plenty times in the past that he would love direct a Star Wars film. So a lot of this is not too far off base of previous reports. But this is not exactly what I have been told. This is what I have so far, Star Wars will continue but not necessarily on the big screen, maybe TV and it most likely will not be Episodes 7,8 and 9. Steven will take charge but there is good possibilities that we will see 1000 years before the Skywalkers. Can we say Golden Age of the Sith??!! Once again nothing is final until we here it from the horses mouth. So stay tune!!

And yes damnit this is a rumor and no I didn't write it. So no flames. Just curious to what you're thoughts are and if you've heard anything about this. Ihave heard a number of grumblings about a TV show, hmm, that could be bad...real bad.

Scott, you may be right I may be crazy (good Billy Joel song), but if we agree there is money to be made and this box set is not the final box set (Prequal trilogy to come out) and there is a new format coming where the picture and sound have to be mastered up to another level (High-def) and there is work being done to redo yoda in Ep I to CG, and there are a number of scenes, especially in Ep. I where the CG is not on par with Gollum and it easily could be by 2007. Lets face it, this box set has already outsold everything and isn't even out. Imagine what a 2007 release would do for the format itself, it would literally guarantee existence of Blu-ray or HD-DVD whichever was chosen. And Luca$ is releasing THX-1138 in the theaters and probably will do a huge media blitz on the 30th anniversary with all the movies in theatres just before the DVD release. Do you not see excitement and major $$$ for that? As I have said before precedence is there, he never stops playing. I have found quotes prior alluding to certain things, but I don't have anything to give you now and don't want to spend hours looking. We'll agree to disagree. I do put more stock in innumerous reinforcing rumors than anything he says. He is the king of disinformation, going back on what he said, and having everyone in his crew on lock-down.

I am kind of suprised no one is listing movies that could've been better with re-editing or commenting on my list. You guys haven't sat through a movie and said Good, but could've been better if...especially after seeing some deleted scenes. I really would love to hear feedback on this. Something, even though provoking.

Don't worry about it and thanks Jason...we all now GL doesn't say this is the title to all my movies, this is my plan and this is the release date. He and his camp have alluded to them several times though and eerie as it is to my post a little bit back in this thread, this guy at the digital bits says this, and yes I know this got disputed, and no this is not your conclusive proof...though I really don't feel like searching...but really this is my sentiments exactly as this guys puts...

Consider that Lucas has said several times in the past that the ultimate versions of these films will eventually be released in high-definition format. Consider that May of 2007 will mark the 30th Anniversary of the original film's theatrical release. Consider that both Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD are targeted for launch in by late 2005 or early 2006, and one of them will eventually replace existing DVD.
If you think Lucasfilm and Twentieth Century Fox are going to want to pass up a chance to re-sell you these films for their 30th Anniversary, very likely in high-definition, well... I want to know what kind of drugs you're taking. Those next-generation optical discs are going to have an awful lot of room to fill. Might Lucas decide to include the original theatrical versions of these films on that multi-disc set, alongside his ultimate versions, just for sh_ts and giggles? Who knows.
What I can tell you for certain, is that the versions of these films you're getting on DVD in September are NOT the final versions. They're just one more step on a longer road. This is not the last time they'll be out on disc, and a better release is already in the cards. So buy them, don't buy them... it's ultimately not going to matter. Do what you feel you must.

What year was the special editions released? 1997 (20th anniversary)
Matter of fact I'd probably assume that Lucas will go one more round in the theatres. They did it with the LOTR extended editions, he did it with the SE's and he's doing it with the THX 1138 rerelease.

With better significant sound, picture, music, and storage capability of HD-DVD...uhh...I think it's coming guys.

I will eventually get you some quotes other than what Jason has given for me (thanks Jay).

Lost Original Trilogy footage... at blueharvest.net
Time
You are probably right.

I got to say Damn though! That Behind the Magic CD-Rom is unbelievable. I mean Damn. That thing has so much crap on it you could spend weeks looking at it once over. The clips are better than the quicktime ones I saw online. Though the online online had some sound and dialogue fixes. Actually Magnolia told me he was the one that added the music back into the Biggs scene online. Too cool though. I am sending it to Rikter too for perusal.

Wow though. I am impressed and lately I have underwhelmed with GL.

4 good scenes on that disc of lost footage from Ep IV.

You might want to forward that on to Rikter he is the collector of all things Star wars and may be able to make a best version of what you and I have.

Again hopefully they will be remastered for the Trilogy release on DVD on 9/21 and its all a moot point.

MagnoliaFan Edition Episode III-VI Titles
Time
I hear ya on that Pagz and respect it completely. I keep thinking of the old acting barb..."what's my motivation?" And vengeance that is ever-so briefly alluded a compelling saga title does not make. But that's me. Again it is a cool sounding title, but why not go with what's hours of the movie and more poignant? Dunno. And yeah, I know many people have said that before about Jedi's don't take vengeance but Anakin was a Jedi and joined the Dark Side defying good. Dooku did so. Luke is swayed and tempted and uses hate to fight his father. Ultimately Anakin takes vengeance on the one who manipulated his life and twisted him against his own son, the emperor. ESB and ROTJ have some dark elements to them. Even Yoda likes to get creepy with dark lines at times. So hey, that's my take. But "The Fallen Shroud" works perfectly for the Ep. III title with Yoda's dark line at the end of Ep. II saying it was not a victory, but merely that the shroud of the dark side has fallen. Having Palpatine in place and the Jedi fooled up until now.

MagnoliaFan Edition Episode III-VI Titles
Time
Pagz that was pretty funny, btw, and while Revenge of the Sith sounds cool, it doesn't make much sense kind of like Phantom menace. Its like magnolia said...the sith have been elusive thus far in the story and why vengeance? Deceipt thus far may be the case...kind of alluding to my "fallen shroud" thing and dark force rising makes sense as well. But revenge of the sith does not. All of that said, Revenge of the Jedi is much cooler than Return of the jedi and does make sense for all they have lost and luke does give in somewhat to his "darker" feelings, like his father. So if you stick with Revenge of the Jedi, which I think you should, then drop the Revenge of the sith. Besides, changing all the titles will make them more yours and the fans and there is something inherently "cool" about that (especially when you change them back to their original titles or titles that make more sense than phantom menace).

Star Wars - The Edits and DVDr releases thread
Time
BTW, everyone the stuff Rikter is doing will blow your mind! He's professional and does amazing work, with a variety of choices that all look awesome (BTW I mean for each DVD there is several different art selections). And his catalog is thorough to say the least. Great guy and huge asset to the board. Like I said in my original "that feeling" thread, him and Magnolia were the two reasons I came to this board. And Magnolia's edits...wow. They improve the story and the pacing so much, Ep. II is flat out awesome now.

Friend claims to have Episode 3 on dvd...
Time
That's Funny Buddy...LMAO...damn. And Rikter I love you putting Jar-Jar in everything. Maybe we can replace Luke (since GL hates him, Mark Hamill, soooo much) with Jar-Jar. Hmm, Jedi Binks. Return of the Binks. The Binks Strikes Back. Sweet. Use the Force Jar-Jar. God, that would be awesome (the most amount of sarcasm I have used in my life to this point right here)!

Well, I would love to see what that dude has, obviously most people are highly skeptical here as they should be. Its nearly impossible it is polished footage and highly improbable its rough footage of some kind, but possible...if somehow, someone leaked some bits. Like everyone else says ask for proof. I'd love to hear the report back.
