Am I the only one who actually prefers the change? I think it flows fine. Even if it does break the 180 rule… which, if you know anything about film, is done all the time, even in Star Wars…
Yeah, I’m in the same boat. I liked it. Trying to think about it from the point of view of someone that’s never seen the movie, I think it makes total sense. I think it only seemed a little weird initially because I’ve seen it the other way for so long.
I can’t remember if there was some controversy about adding the battle droid to the junk pile a while back, but I personally like it.
You have to remember that “The Clone Wars” hadn’t even come out when the SD version was released, a lot of things have changed since then. LOL
That makes so much sense. I watched the SD versions yeeeears ago and yeah that actually never crossed my mind haha
See if you can spot all the fixes…
I always love watching these videos. I’ll see what I spot, but there’s always plenty I don’t see initially, so let me know what I missed.
The C3P0 flipped shot fixes turned out great! And your color correction is always stunning. I can’t remember if there was some controversy about adding the battle droid to the junk pile a while back, but I personally like it.
Trying again now.
Thanks Hal, works now.
I watched the change you made with headphones on. I love the idea of this dialogue change, but personally it sounds a little jarring to me. The music cuts weird and the voice sounds closer to JEJ than Vader.
ROTJ has finally been updated to include the AI-augmented Vader line, “Your mother once thought as you do” in the main audio channel. No other changes.
The Yub Nub version has everything, but for the planet celebration ending it looks like it only uploaded the tiny encode version.
Neverar is correct. Though you might be tempted to think shields look cool, the current mock-up is way too bright and eye-catching.
But actually I’m not sure you need the shields. It’s a hangar staffed entirely by robots. They don’t need atmosphere.
I’d agree that they’re a little to eye popping how they are, but it’s not the finished product.
I disagree that you don’t need shields. Revenge of the Sith there were shields on a ship fully staffed by droids, but they still had them. Were Qui-gon and Obi-Wan issued space suits to walk from their ship to the Trade Federation ship interior? Wookipedia also says that “Hangars which opened onto the vacuum of space were sealed by a magnetic shield and had emergency airlocks in case the shield failed”. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I can’t think of another instance in the prequels or OT where there aren’t shields in the hangar.
I love the shield implementation!
Last thing Pixel said publicly back in August on his Trailer #2:

The question was asked:
“Is pixel using AI for voices now? I was under the impression he was only using voice actors.”
Discord user FilmicCrossroads (a collaborator on the movie) replied:
“We only use ai to enhance certain details of our own work. Elevenlabs allows you to take recorded lines and make them closer to the character your trying to emmulate.”
Hey Ady, in relation to your “red leader trench run” video
@ 1:04 Vader is doing the trench run. When it cut to inside his cockpit, the background shows him still in space and flying downward. He should have the trench run in the window behind him. This happens again @ 1:18
That’s a top window. The shot’s pov is from below. There are supposed to be stars there.
Yup, I see it now, there should be stars. Thanks!
But since that’s the top window, shouldn’t the stars be going forward to backward? The stars flying up to down implies he’s aiming his ship downward in to the ground. I could very well be wrong again though lol
Hey Ady, in relation to your “red leader trench run” video
@ 1:04 Vader is doing the trench run. When it cut to inside his cockpit, the background shows him still in space and flying downward. He should have the trench run in the window behind him (Scratch that, shouldn’t have the trench run in the top window, but the stars should be going forward to backward, not up to down). This happens again @ 1:18
@ 1:41 Vader is banking left and downward on Red Leader’s tail. The following cockpit shot of Vader should have the background stars reflect that (it currently shows him flying violently downward like most cockpit shots of him). Fixing that would also line up with the next shot that shows Red Leader’s cockpit view.
@ 1:45 should there be a sound effect and laser shot added for Vader hitting Red Leader? He just says he lost his starboard engine.
@ 1:53 shouldn’t Vader’s star background match Red Leader’s since he’s on his tail? Vader’s star field is going in the opposite direction.
And what are your thoughts on adding Vader jumping to hyperspace after the battle that “That guy with no name” did?
This is my main gripe about leaving it…
If Hal keeps it how it is, this is my headcanon…

He also said that scene was unusable due to its quality.
The deleted scene of Luke building his Lightsaber is a good candidate for restoration; for example, here is a first pass restoration I did on that scene – some of the dust, dirt and scratches are circled in blue.
To note: I’ve added a bit of green to the blade colour, however no other colour correction has been done, plus I’ve added a light film grain. Deinterlacing and upscaling haven’t been done yet either.
Here’s what it could look like with some color.

Luke’s lightsaber is way to thick and would need to be fixed too. I’m not saying whether it should be included in the movie or not, but I don’t think it would be thrown out based on picture quality.
In both the purist and main version when it transitions out of the first deleted scene, the screen wipe is a little goofed up. It takes place around 6min 15sec
.
Hey, do you have another link to the Discord? The one in the OP is expired.
It still seemed to work for me, but I generated a new link (updated above in post as well) that should work with no expiration date on it. https://discord.gg/TNzZzdScpK
I love that idea! It would be very easy to implement; O00ll00O would you mind if I borrow your idea for my own edit?
Of course, that’d be great! You can if you want, but I don’t recommend using my exact video due to poor quality. It’s ripped from Joys youtube video and then it was compressed even more for google drive. But I’d love to see/hear your version of how you do it and think it’d be cool if you posted it here or PM me if it’s not a change Joy cares about. And I feel like there’s gotta be better SFX to use for it, but if you want the sounds I used, I can send them to you.
Awesome work again on the deleted scene footage by the way! It’s fun seeing it in Joys edit 😃 A lot of people think up-scaling is just dropping a file in and hitting “upscale”, but I know it’s a ton of work tweaking things to get it right and appreciate it!
Love love loved this video Joy!! It’s wild how good you are at duel & chase scenes! The SFX were perfect, I didn’t notice anything out of place. I can’t wait to see this with the soundtrack behind it! The N-1 dog fight pace is way ramped up and I loved it. I do have one additional idea for SFX I’d like to get your opinion on…
So in the original TPM (and in your cut) before Anakin’s ship is hit, the following happens:
1.) R2-D2 screams, then the ship is hit
2.) Anakin’s N-1 seems to take 1 (relatively quiet) shot on his right wing
3.) He spins (it’s a good trick) and lands in the hanger
I propose:
1.) Anakin’s ship is hit, THEN R2 screams
2.) Make the shot that hits the wing slightly louder as it must’ve done decent damage to make him spin out, crash land, and eventually shut down
3.) Add cockpit error alarms/warnings right after the blaster hit (I might’ve mixed that to quiet), and change the alarm type when he starts to level it out in the hanger
4.) Once he starts flying through the hanger, after the first person view in the cockpit, it cuts to R2 and then play a sound effect of him slightly fixing the ship
I feel like doing those things helps match the intensity of the dogfight.
I’m by no means an editor, this is a mock-up of what it might sound like. I couldn’t find N-1 cockpit sound effects online, so I just put in some alarms I thought might fit. You could always change those to a different sound effects, but again this is just to give you an idea.
I enjoyed the new maximalist AOTC. The upscaled footage looks much better than before, and putting the younglings scene in didn’t bother me. I did see 2 small errors during my watch.
The black bars in the kiss scene are light black and when it transitions to Kamino they turn back to dark black. You can also see the transition swipe in the black bars. It’s a lot more noticeable watching it compared to the picture below.

In this scene there’s a thin white stripe that appears for a few seconds.

Hey Phase3, what do you think about a color correction like this for the Obi/Mace scene?

Or do you prefer a warmer look?
Have you considered talking with Hal9000? Your up-scales are a massive jump in quality, nice work!

Just wait til we get to the Arena Battle. It’s gonna be Force Mad!
I know you said it’s something that you’re really proud of, so I can’t wait to see it!
I like the structure of your opening. The sequencing is vastly different in comparison to the original, but it makes a lot of sense.
I actually attempted to make an edit inside your edit. This is the first cut I’ve ever done, so let me know your thoughts. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y5ZUOb6-XaXDjLtnVwtdiNBEZeFayocU/view?usp=sharing
-Start the music a beat after 3P0 says “he agrees!”. I think that feels closer to the atmosphere of the cantina when everyone abruptly moves on after a conflict is settled. It’s also a little more chaotic with Chewy trying to yell over the music.
-Remove Landos helmet bonk on the ceiling
-Remove how long the shot of Lando pulling down his mask is. It’s way to in your face.Yo! I really like your recut! Great job! It just goes to show you there are 100s of good ways to skin a cat.
I quite like the way you cut around the Chewie sequence. It’s very effective at getting rid of the helmet bonk, and the music cut is pretty smooth.
For my cut I would stick with what I have on all of those points, for sequence balancing reasons (if you pop up to #1633920 on this thread, I explain how that kind of editing works in detail). The back half of that Jabba sequence, I’m trying to throttle down the pace in order to move into a more contemplative Dagobah scene, so the helmet bonk (while a bit goofy), gives me the meta-pace I’m looking for. As a side note. . . I’m almost convinced George worked in a helmet bonk into all six of his films. . . I don’t know where they all are, but there are so many of them, I’m starting to think it turned into an intentional running gag by the time we get to the Prequels (See the Jango Fett bonk on Kamino).
Last thing: (Brace yourself this is gonna be super pedantic) The reason I personally wouldn’t tighten up the music cue the way you did, is because a Jazz (Jizz?) song of that type starts with a silent count, because the opening notes begin before the first “1”. So instead of “1-2-3-4-Bummmm-budum-budum-bum-bum” (Jedi Rocks from the Special Edition), it’s “1-2-3-(4)budum-(1)BumBum”. If you watch Max Rebo’s hand, he’s doing the silent count so the band can start on “4”. The silent beat that you cut is the beginning of the silent count. Basically, there’s no way a real musician could start that song as quickly as you cut it and have everybody come in on time.
PS Thank you mom for all of those stupid Clarinet lessons in High School. . .
I appreciate all the helpful feedback, thank you! And hey maybe just add a helmet bonk sound like in ANH:SE and lean in to it lol
Your updated AOTC Dooku fight is so much more menacing and quick paced. He’s an experienced Jedi master who’s tapped in to the dark side, and your cut gives that feeling much more naturally. The only shot that looks a little off to me is the shot of Obi-Wan hopping off the little ship ramp, to be followed by the next frame where they’re both in different spots (due to cutting out Padme’s little blurp about getting a transport). How do you think it looks without the little ramp hop? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UV6fCLpxe9O_tQ3mfAJgCCbVlsPYF85y/view?usp=sharing

Okie Doke. Here’s a link to my opening of RotJ up to the point where Luke walks in through Jabba’s front door: //drive.google.com/drive/folders/1EleIyLvBBrk-D8zN9zy23NJhEeg6FMcs?usp=sharing
