I think there’s definitely a bit too much grain, to the point it’s a bit distracting imo.

Oh yeah. Rescoring is a really effective tool, even if, for me atleast, it’s a pain to do (namely isolating/remaking the base sound of the scenes is the bane of my existence).
Hands down though, the redubbed Anakin is probably my favorite change. I wasn’t sure if it was going to work, but I was pretty surprised with all Trooperman managed to accomplish getting it to mostly blend in, and the new lines he was given definitely helped improve his character.

On a related note, I would love to hear from Trooperman again…what’s he been up to? What does he think of his edit now?
Same, honestly.
Personally, this is probably one of my favorite (released) AOTC edits, mild jankiness aside. It’s just so impressive in how ambitious it is in what it tries to do, and genuinely is probably one of my favorite ways to watch the film now. I could probably go on a massive ramble about the things I like about this, but that would be kinda hogging the thread lmao.
Yo, is a link to this available anywhere?
Somehow, British Wedge was the most cursed part about this lol. Great job implementing them into the original audio!
Genuinely impressive work! The wide shot is a bit jank, but I’d say for a fan edit it’s passable.
I know the current idea is to skip the Negotiations opening, but recently I’ve started my own attempt to streamline it as practice. Not sure if I’ll turn it into an edit on it’s own so dropping here incase anyone finds it interesting.
(Apologies for the upcoming wall of text)
Basically for this rough cut I:

This reply’s probably a little useless, but I wanna say I really love a lot of the ideas presented in the edit! Be it radical, like the complete rewriting of Anakin (I especially am a sucker for him calling Obi-Wan Ben), injecting actual chemistry into Anakin and Padme’s dynamic, many of the small visual performance tweaks, or even how some scenes are restructured (the removal of the nightclub especially is clever).
Look forward to seeing how this forms!
Already an interesting idea on opening it. Always love the rare edit that kills off the Ambassadors at the start to demonstrate the Federation, or in this case Sidious’ cruelty. I look forward to seeing the full workprint when it’s done!
I honestly was blown away by the finale, primarily the Obi-Wan and Vader parts (Not to say the Reva and Lars part was terrible, of course, but that’s not really the focus of the series).
The duel honestly felt like such a wellmade emotional bookend to the PT era, with the reveal of Vader’s true face being both the breaking point for Obi-Wan (and honestly, thanks to Ewan’s acting, it hit me pretty hard too), while also being the start of how he learns to accept it, with the lie of Anakin perishing by Vader’s hands.
Honestly my only real point of, idk, is Reva’s motivations in the finale. Really feels like they wanted to kill her off, changed their mind, but couldn’t think of anything for her to really do, other than somehow make her good in the end. Which sucks because I honestly really liked her in the rest of the series, and feel her being killed by Vader would’ve been a great end to her story.
In general I’d say I really liked this series. There were a fair few slow moments near the start, but when it started to pick up, it really began to soar.
Honestly really interested in seeing the film edits people do of this one.
That WIP looks pretty great! Really interested seeing how it’d look in a more complete state. The only thing really missing (minus the obvious cleanup some shots need) would probably be the planet, y’know, actually exploding. Honestly probably the best modernized Alderaan explosion I’ve seen. The scoring is also phenomenal, and intercutting Ben’s reaction with a more slow, built up explosion is a really interesting approach.
Huh, that sounds interesting actually. I have seen one edit (The Jedi’s Apprentice by Cat’s Prime Cuts) that makes AOTC the Episode 1, using the end of TPM near the start. I’d be interested in seeing your ideas to combine them in action, if the workprint’s done enough to send around.
But I’m sad that this conflicts with the fanedit idea that Anakin wasn’t part of the Temple Massacre. I guess if somebody does this in a ROTS edit they will have to accept the conflict with Kenobi.
I mean, if you’re gonna delete chunks of canon plot material from your edit, you’ve already kinda agreed it’s its own continuity lmao.
OK. After five episodes what’s the general consensus among you guys? Is this series worth watching?
I feel no real desire to watch it.
I’d say it’s really good if you know how to be fun and not overanalyze everything.
Na, I had already done most of the Palpatine scene already and a glimpse of it is at the end of the Trailer.
Oh yeah, saw that, fantastic work!
Honestly 5’s probably my favorite episode now. All that’s built up is beginning to pay off, and the flashbacks to the Prequel era were really cool, especially using a sparring match between Anakin and Obi-Wan as essentially a framing device for the whole episode.
Plus seeing Vader destroying ships and kicking someone’s ass is always cool.
Woah, that’s actually an interesting take, and shouldn’t be too hard to do.
I think one of the biggest things is getting good 3d models, even just for space scenes. I would like models for the ships on Naboo and to do an aerial battle over Naboo. This is one of the more ambitious scenes/shots I would like to pull off. This would be when the Federation is first attacking Naboo, not the climax.
Yeahh, getting the models is always the toughest part. I think Battlefront 2 has some good models for the Naboo Starfighters though (the game’s a treasure trove of high quality Star Wars models.

And maaan I can’t get over how good the trailer looks! I really hope you’re able to get them through. Adding the Order 66 scene from Obi-Wan Kenobi is an interesting idea, wonder how that’ll pan out. I did see someone doing a mockup of it in the radical redux thread.
The HDR control also looks great so far!
1 is by far my favorite
Yoo, happy to hear this project’s still kicking!
Honestly wish I could offer help in some regards, I do have some experience using Blender, though mostly in animation and the like, and I’d still consider myself fairly noobish.
I honestly again loved Part IV, and generally the series thus far.
I think I prefer the greener tinge to the bottom image, it generally feels a lot more natural to me compared to the middle version.
Huh, interesting premise for a project! So far the provided clips look great (only issue grading wise I can really name is a few shots, Leia’s interrogation especially, looking a little too saturated/high contrast, with blacks vanishing into the ether. Though that could just be an inherent flaw with the sources). The new sound mix sure is interesting too.
As a side note, mrbenja0618’s idea of making the PT look/sound more vintage does sort of intrigue me…
Again, I personally really loved this episode. Especially the moments with Vader and Obi-Wan, further fleshing out Obi-Wan’s fear over what he created, and Vader’s burning (no pun intended) hatred for Obi-Wan.
I get some of the complaints, but I even really liked the duel.
Sure, if it was the only one, it would kinda suck a bit out of the rematch in ANH, due to Obi-Wan so blatantly losing, but I’m pretty sure it WON’T be the only one, solely because of how much it’s been built up. Pretty sure it’s gonna go smth like “Obi-Wan eventually does manage to speak to Qui-Gon, and after a pep talk regains strength and bests Vader, who now believes he’s still a learner” or whatever.
Vader letting him go super easily was pretty dumb though, I must admit.
Again, sorta viewing this knowing this isn’t the full story, but I think it does it’s job as the midpoint quite well.
Just finished watching the first two episodes. My take: It’s fun. Leia is wonderful, and Obi-wan is great as always. Sure, I could complain about a few aspects of the Inquisitors such as their accessories, makeup, costuming, design, direction, choreography, backstory, acting, purpose, and existence, but they are meaningless noise obscuring the strong signal which is measured, thoughtful character interactions, and I’m here for it.
Honestly same. A lot of the complaints I’ve been seeing have been pretty surface level imo.
But hey who knows, we’re only two episodes in. Could be the best or the worst thing ever, hard to judge for sure on what’s basically the first act.
I do think the color grading could use a little work though.
