Star Wars Episode II: The Galaxy Divided (The Brash Cut) - CANCELLED
Time

I keep staring at the color altered Fett pic on page one. I LOVE the breaking dawn look of it all. I just tried to do it myself with the scene in FCP 5, but I can only do it with straight color correction. Which means Obi-Wan's saber core turns amber, and it affects the color of the jet pack rockets and the laser blasts. So, without doing a full re-rotoscope, I couldn't make it happen. I hope you have more dynamic results. Inspired idea.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

In terms of a rushed release, I meant the 2004 DVDs. They did so much work on it, but the end result makes it seem like they released it without finishing all their work. I'm sure that's not the truth, but we all know the color correction and audio issues with those releases. SFX drowning out the music, lightsaber blade colors all screwy. Seems like a rush job to me.

Speaking of Boba Fett, soundboards were released

Oh dear me, it sounds so fake and "phoned in"

That's what I've been saying for six years. Morrison made no effort in trying to create a character here. He probably read the lines into a micorphone on a coffee break. Someone I know thinks Jason Wingreen's voice sounds like a bad Saturday morning cartoon villain. Personally, I think it gives the character an air of mystery. He sounds gruff and rugged. A guy that's all business, and doesn't take crap from anyone. It makes him a bit intimidating, too. Gives him a bit of the Snake Plissken vibe. Morrison's voice does nothing for me. The man worked fine as Jango Fett because it was a more relaxed and cautious character. That's not Boba Fett to me.

Good to know. I recently obtained ANH:R on DVD DL, and while I didn't care for all the changes, I'd hate for something like this to be missed considering all the minute details that are being addressed with ESB:R. It's just good to see someone giving these films the attention and care they deserve instead of rushing out a release which add more flaws than it fixes. And it's by one person not getting a cent for the work they do. Being an independent no budget filmmaker myself, I know the feeling.

I noticed this while watching the film the other day, and is either an easy or difficult fix, depending on your preference. After Vader slices off Luke's hand, in a low angle shot on Luke, you can see Vader's lightsaber is still ignited, but in all subsequent shots, it has already been turned off. There is no SFX of the saber being switched off, either. The film cuts like this: shot one (seen below) cuts to a medium shot of Vader (with the saber out of frame), and then, to the second shot below where the saber is off. So, you could potentially add in the SFX when it is out of frame, but that cutaway is one second long, at best. So, I'm not sure how good it would play. The alternative is painting out the saber in three different shots following Luke's hand being cut off.

Okay, here's what you can do with Obi-Wan's hunt for Fett to separate it from Kamino. Perhaps the Jedi analysis droids determine the dart to be Mandalorian in origin, and you can construct dialogue somewhere (radio plays, audiobooks, manipulating the film's own dialogue) that informs Kenobi of a bounty hunter named Fett who wears the armor of the Mandalorians. How you go about Obi-Wan directly locating Fett is up to you.

Replacing some of the Kamino Prime Minister's dialogue in the cloning facilities can be easy enough if you can keep that dialogue in cutaways to the clones. If you don't see him on the screen, you needn't worry about matching his lip movements. It comes down to the voice matching consistently. It might be necessary to replace all his dialogue to achieve this if it is that crucial to your edit.

2006 DVD OOT
Time

I hadn't bought the LTD Edition sets for a few reasons. One, half the set I already owned in the 2004 DVD box set. Second, non-anamorphic transfers from a 13 year old Laserdisc source. Not a state-of-the-art digital remaster and transfer making full use of the format for optimal quality. Lastly, the price. Having to pay $14.99 for each of them, meaning another $45 spent on this trilogy was too much. But a few months ago, I was all over eBay looking for a deal. I found one. All three DVD sets for $9.99 +$6.80 for shipping. No way I'd find them for a better price.

My desire to obtain this DVD release is just to have the original films in widescreen. I had only ever owned the OOT on pan-and-scan VHS. First from HBO & ShowTime broadcasts, and then, as a box set from 1992. Now, this is something to twist your brains around. Here is the message scrawled across the outside of that box from George Lucas himself.

"Fifteen years ago I set out to make a film for a generation growing up without fairy tales. Star Wars was my own elaborate fantasy, but its popularity has gone beyond anything even I had imagined. In years to come I hope that you, your children, and your children's children will enjoy experiencing this saga as much as I have."

In retrospect, sounds very bizarre. Doesn't it?

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?
Time

This addition to EMPIRE is a clear case for what I call the "Law & Order" mentality. In "Law & Order," they don't waste time or slow down the episode to show the cops driving down the street, getting out of the car, stepping onto the sidewalk, walking up to the front door, and ringing the doorbell. There's no practical need to show that. They just cut right to the point. Just like on "Star Trek," they don't always show someone beaming up from the planet every time. If you've seen it enough times, you can move forward without seeing it happen. Granted, that was likely done to cut down on the effects budget, but regardless of that, it's not needed to show how someone gets from point A to point B everytime. You can put the pieces together yourself.

Vader says, "Bring my shuttle." This means he intends to be leaving, and with everyone else making their escapes from the planet at this point, you'd assume he also is leaving the planet. Then, a few minutes later, he's on the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer. Simply conclusive.

And yes, the entire sequence damages the pacing of the film's climax. Even a fellow filmmaking friend of mine, who prefers the prequels over the OT and likes most of the SE & DVD '04 alterations agrees with me on this point. The film, at this point, is trying to build momentum in a seemingly hopeless situation. Intercutting with the shuttle's journey kills that momentum. Why Lucas chose to add this? I do not know. I do agree that Vader appearing on the Executor bridge maybe could've benefitted from a more proper entrance, and perhaps that was his irritant with the scene. Doesn't bother me, never has, but that's a maybe.

Your first reaction to Hayden is ROTJ
Time

Beyond just hating it, I just realized that they have Hayden wearing an outfit he was NEVER seen wearing in the prequels. He's essentially wearing the same outfit as Obi-Wan, but Anakin only ever wore the full dark brown outfit. So, it's another piece of continuity messed up. I also contend that Anakin was never at peace with The Force until after he killed The Emperor in ROTJ. Before his full Sith turn, he was always conflicted, angry, frustrated, arrogant, lustful, or asanine. 'At peace' is not how I'd ever describe Hayden's Anakin. So, I don't see Lucas' argument that Anakin reverted to the form he had when he was truly at peace with The Force. That doesn't happen until he's turned back FROM the Dark Side, not on his way down into it.
