Info & Help: looking for... 'AFI - The Directors'
Time
So I take it nobody has heard of these?
From what I understand, they were broadcast in the states around 1999, and a few released on DVD and VHS. I have been succesful in finding DVD's of roughly 50% of the series - around 60 episodes in all.

If anyone is interested in the ones currently available, I have them on order. It would be a great extra for preservation projects on the said directors films to include these.

Does anyone know if they (AFI) are still in the process of releasing these or given up? It seems strange that really popular directors like Ridley Scott have not been released as of yet.

ANy help would be greatly appriciated.

Many thanks,
NeilB

I really cant see the point here. If you want a single layer version why not just download the dual layer and run it through DVD-shrink. But then again, if you are going to do this, you may aswell just be content with the official release.
People on these boards are kind and try to help others out as best they can, but asking someone to make you a single layered version of one of their projects is too much - especially when there is a perfectly good reson for it being dula layer in the first place!

Info: Where do you draw the line?
Time
After reading the other post that Jay mentioned, I realise why your comment has sparked the reaction it did.

If you are so concerned about this forum being involved in piracy, why bother to come here?

This site is doing nothing wrong what so ever. There is a site you may be aware of called vcdquality.com. This website lists details of pirate movies, invites members to comment on the quality etc. Attempts have been made to shut the site down, but it is still going strong. Why? Because it is not hosting any illegal files, just information about what is available, just as this site is.

There are plenty of websites in violation of copyright laws unlike this one is, so go pester them instead.

I can see both sides here - I understand that we don't want to infringe copyrights and get the site taken down, but feel that some of you are going too far and refusing to even think about some of the points made.

I was shocked to see that the Bladerunner disc was the directors cut, as this is available on retail DVD. When I looked into it, I read the details and realised that it was from HD, which explained it.

Even still, the guy has a point - If you were to share a film that was not yet available as in this case, wouldnt that be considered the same as sharing a film that has left the cinema and not yet hit DVD?

I personally dont care whether any laws are being broken etc, I just think the way that some of you have lashed out at the guy for simply raising a point is purely childish.

Info Wanted: Nightmare on Elm St 5 UNCUT?
Time
I have just bought that Laserdisc of off Ebay, and was going to transfer it to DVD - what is your DVD like?

As for NOES5, this is listed on IMDB -

Unrated video version features about a minute of extra gore that was cut from the R-rated theatrical release. Scenes that were cut in the R-rated version: when the girl is force fed her own guts, and when the motorcycle "fuses" with the rider's body.

The DVD version of the film is the theatrical release, rated R, and isn't uncensored like the VHS release.

This would be worth a DVD if the cut stuff is worth it. Is it?

The quality is ok, but obviously not spot on - I would compare it as being the same as Rikters Superman 3 Extended Edition, possibly slightly better.

I have captured all of the episodes, but some of the specials aren't worth it due to tracking problems etc.

Movie Magic - TV Series (* unfinished project *)
Time

I have just come across some old VHS tapes of this series - would anyone be interested in seeing them again?
I don’t think I have them all, but I have 13 30 minute episodes and 5 45 minute specials.

EDIT - Just to add some information on which ones I have -

Special Makeup Effects - Rick Baker, Moulds And Casts
Optical Effects - Optical Printer, Star Wars, Composite Shots
Creature Effects - Carnosaur, Aliens
Pyrotechnics - Cliffhanger, Star Wars, The Terminator
Forced Perspective - Attack Of The 50ft Woman, Honey I Blew Up The Kid
Movie Rides - Back To The Future, The Abyss
Miniature Effects - Aliens, Terminator 2
Matte Painting - Addams Family Values
CGI - Hocus Pocus, Death Becomes Her
Flight Effects - Hocus Pocus
Model Makers - Star Trek DS9
Stop Motion Animation - Ray Harryhausen, Robocop 2, Empire Strikes Back
Sound Editing / Foley - Apocalypse Now

The 45 minute features are -

Wild Hollywood - Animal Actors
The Final Frontier - Space Films
Monsters & Mayhem - Creature Films
Special Effects - Various Techniques

I have started to capture the episodes, and am starting to make a DVD of them for myself - If there is enough interest I will create a “proper” DVD with menu’s etc.

Does anybody have or know of any episodes not lited above? I believe these were recorded from BBC2 in 93-94.

I looked at the DVD you sent me and thought it was a bit on the dodgy side, so I got hold of the game to see if I could rip the files directly, and I can - they look very good indeed!

I will also be adding some nice menu's and navigation to the package, although I am still looking for someone to help me out with the disc art for this and the Rogue Squadron disc which I have decided to do as 3 seperate discs, due to the sheer amount of stuff for 2 and 3. I have finished the bulk of the first disc, if it generates enough interest ill do 2 & 3.

PAL Betamax question...

I have both of these, and I believe that they are identical to their VHS & Laserdisc counterparts. I don't have the VHS, but I do have the Laserdisc and its Stereo. There is no mention on the Star Wars box or cassette of either Mono or Stereo, but it states on the Empire cassette that its Stereo.

With regard to Raiders, I think people are getting confused with the Nazi logo being burnt from the box.

Ok, Just to clarify, I have just got my NTSC Laserdisc copy of Temple Of Doom, and for the first time in 21 years, finally seen the full uncut version. I was amazed how much was actually cut, as normally its only a few seconds, but I can now confirm what UK fans have been missing out on.

I have uploaded both UK, and US versions of the scene on Demonoid for you to compare. Interestingly enough, when I ripped the scene from my UK boxset, I noticed that the disc name was INDIANAJONES_TOD_UKCENSOR.

The deleted scene adds so much more to the movie, Im sure that US people on watching the cut version will be amazed aswell as the UK'ers!
