Just would like to point out that Rey’s lightsaber teleports earlier in the movie: when she fights Kyo on his ship and Kijimi’s surface at the same time.
So imo it should always be cracked or never cracked. Teleporting doesn’t heal.
Man of Tomorrow by Job Willins.
A combination edit of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Technically 2h38m, but it will feel longer because of the rapid pacing. Version 1.3 is the latest I’m aware of.
I love this movie, and it’s what got me interested in fan edits, despite being a bit messy and bloated, as much of an experiment as a movie (Job Willins has also done some other similar movie+sequel combo edits). Superman and Batman’s respective characters are done far better justice with this edit; Superman feels like a hero instead of mopey murderer, and Batman is more empathetic. The integration of Bruce into what was originally Man of Steel’s plot is impressive, not only in the obvious way of BvS’s opening flashback, but in some other ways through clever editing, and the end of the film’s first half is practically inspirational. With the fat cut off, BvS’s main conflicts now get to shine better as well, with the complete removal of the Africa-bullet-senate plot that nonsensically wasted our time in the original.
What’s more, this is Superman’s story. Clark always felt like he was getting tossed around by fate in the original movies, with Jor-El, Zod, and Bruce taking up far too much screen time in combination with Clark’s generally un-Superman Randian approach to “heroism” (Zack Snyder was basically the worst person who could have made a Superman movie). Here, however, Superman takes center stage as his more heroic nature peeks through Snyder’s dreariness and the side characters are treated as side characters.
Man of Tomorrow goes beyond the typical superhero film formula by being not just an origin story or single notable conflict, but an anthology of Superman’s entire life. Krypton’s explosion, the Kent farm, the Daily Planet, solo heroics, a rogue’s gallery of opponents, rival-turned-ally Batman, a small taste of the League/Trinity, and finally his death at the hands of Doomsday. It’s not unlike an elseworld one-off comic story in that regard, remixing and reinterpreting classic comic material but with a definitive beginning and ending. I recommend it to anyone who saw potential in the DCEU before it began and was disappointed with the results.

I guess you could call it a companion to the official releases? The official releases of Star Wars include Lucas’ special edit of the OT and the original versions (sans TPM Yoda) of the PT and ST. So this box is the opposite: the original OT and edits of the PT/ST.
Plus, this is just my personal favorite collection of Star Wars movies. The already classic OT is preserved, and the Prequels/Sequels are all improved to be closer to the OT’s level. It’s how I personally rewatch the saga and have recommended rewatches to my friends.
It’s worth noting that even Hal himself says that his own edits of the OT are intended as companions to the originals, not replacements.
A simple concept I’m working on for a 9/10-disc Skywalker Saga box for my favorite edits, Harmy’s Despecialized Trilogy and Hal’s Prequels and Sequels (plus The Phantom Edit for historical value). The blurb on the back is written to introduce the contents to a hypothetical viewer who is not familiar with fan edits (which is why it’s all referred to as “new”), while trying to be respectful to Lucasfilm’s versions of the movies.

That one matches the old ones best so far, imo. Rey may need some sort of filter over her in the end, but what kind is questionable. The TFA cover has Kylo extremely red, but Luke’s effect in TLJ’s cover is more subtle.
What’s the rationale for adding it, though?

Not really; there’s not much I can do beyond waiting for the remaining bits and pieces from others as outlined at the top of the OP. Once the edit is ‘locked,’ I can do subtitles and chapters and stuff like that. Once I get the Naboo shot from snooker I will put out another workprint.
Actually, one thing we still need is cover artwork. There was a good front image to use posted a while ago, but does anyone with the know-how feel like crafting something to compliment TFA:R and TLJ:L?

Those are pretty cool. I’m a fan of these or these if permissions could be obtained, although for that second one I’d replace the TROS with this, since the original uses concept art that doesn’t resemble the final film. Also, that first one doesn’t have TROS or ROTJ, so I guess that doesn’t really solve our current problem…
Hal’s talking about a matching cover for the ones he already has for TFA and TLJ, seen here and here. I personally think a matching set for all 9 movies would be best, regardless of the style. But each trilogy is also a very different animal, so I understand if Hal would prefer different styles for each.

I think my favorite was “Is the Falcon yours now?”
I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how Rey has claimed the Falcon for herself, but I think we just assume that because she’s a human and the main character. In the actual movies, Chewie is the only character who is on the Falcon every time it flies in the Sequels, and he’s always one of the pilots too (Rey took a gunner seat in TLJ). I’m pretty sure the Falcon belongs to Chewie, and he’s just taken in Rey as his co-pilot since that’s what Han wanted. Rey does call it “Han’s ship” in TROS and not “Chewie’s ship,” but she clearly had a lot of reverence for Han (I wouldn’t be surprised if Chewie called it that too), and at the least that’s proof that she doesn’t think of it as hers.
I agree. I was interested in it in theory, but watching DZ-330’s mock-up, I think it interrupts the Tatooine scene too much.
If they’re going to have a line in that scene, just keep it the way it was in its original placement. Chewie speaks and then Rey looks emotional before replying, “It is.”
I think Palpatine’s return is handled drastically better in this edit just with the two changes that have been made.
First, we see a tank of Palpatine clones, rather than Snokes. Far more useful and relevant information is now being implied with this shot. Palpatine already says “I made Snoke,” and it frankly doesn’t matter whether that’s metaphorical or literal, because all we really need to know about Snoke now is that Palpatine put him into power.
Then, Palpatine’s line about his spirit jumping bodies is now moved to his first conversation with Kylo (as a defense for Kylo not to kill him), rather than its original placement at the end of the movie with Rey.
These two bits of information together in quick succession, Palpatine clones and possession, should be enough for the audience to assume the canon fact of Palpatine’s return: that this is a clone body inhabited by his spirit after he died in RotJ.
And if the audience doesn’t quite put it together on their own, Merry Brandybuck still has his “dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith knew” line in the Ajan Kloss meeting. Originally (and still kinda now tbh) this line was just ridiculous, but now it can help the audience put 2 & 2 together in their head given the information they acquired in the Exegol scene.
That’s clearly a salty Relyo account, their statement on Palpatine contradicts what we know from Phil Szostack, and the Matt Smith thing is an old conspiracy that never had any ground.
This is as BS as those “rumors” that Disney is rebooting the series. It also… kinda doesn’t matter? No meaningful new info even if it’s true.
I think the problem jarbear has isn’t with the violence, but with the lack of tension. The heroes mow down trooper after trooper who should have had them dead to rights, all while running almost uninterrupted. It’s like they’re playing Battlefront with an aimbot.
Contrast with the similar scenes from A New Hope: the stormtroopers there still can’t hit our heroes (stormtrooper accuracy has been an irl joke for 40 years now), but the heroes are always either taking cover during firefights, or running away from the troopers trailing behind them. Meanwhile in TROS, the heroes are getting shot at from every single direction at the same time in a wide open hallway and are blowing away every trooper almost casually.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure an edit could do much about it without making the scene too short or choppy, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend removing it altogether. At least Poe gets a non-lethal wound and they get captured, so that while the combat itself lacks tension, the outcome does not.
What dialog is that?
I think part of it is just that a stormtrooper is saying the line, and not one of our heroes. The original Star Wars had humor, but usually through the heroes, droids, or aliens, and not too much at the expense of the Imperials. The Prequels started a trend of Star Wars villains and henchmen being comic relief (obviously the Trade Federation droids and leaders, but even Palpatine’s final battle against Yoda is just plain comedic), and I think carrying that into the Sequel trilogy where we’re back to stormtroopers and Imperial aesthetic has put some people off.
Since Hal removed most of the villain comedy from his Prequel edits, as well as some of the gags in TLJ, I’m just wondering if this line is tonally appropriate for what he’s going for here. Like axlanian said, it almost feels like something out of Red vs Blue.

What would you actually want to serve or eat during each movie, to say nothing of how you actually feel about the movies themselves? Duck or seafood during TPM, chicken during TLJ?
I actually gave this real answer for TPM: hot dogs and Pepsi. I was playing baseball during the summer TPM came out and the movie was marketed through Pepsi cans, so I actually think of those things when I think of TPM. It’s nostalgic for me.
The joke at TPM’s expense was just a bonus.

Are we sure there aren’t any better lines we can give the trooper? Don’t get me wrong, they’re funny, but perhaps that isn’t the direction we should be going in.

I think the trooper trying to get 3P0 to stop rambling is still a good joke conceptually, but this current “Just kill me” doesn’t seem any more tonally appropriate of a joke than the theatrical version of the joke did. Very on the nose, and reminds me of the “SNL humor” that was deleted from Hal’s edit of TLJ.
Maybe something a bit more serious from the trooper, with the scene as a whole still working as a joke due to 3P0. After the “Stop talking,” which I do think could stay, maybe the second line is something like “Somebody take him to reconditioning/reprogramming.” Still works as comedic if done in a more annoyed/exasperated voice rather than a threatening one, like the trooper is just trying to get on with his shift.
And while we’re at it, I’m not a big fan of “And I will be your protocol droid!” when they’re flying toward the cruiser. This line seems out of place to me in the context. Why would C-3P0 assume he’s going to be Chewie’s once they find him? Maybe it wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for a first time viewer, though.
Why did Hux’s “I’m the spy.” line get removed in WP V3? Poe and Finn’s reactions feel kinda jarring without the line.
The next new stormtrooper voice line sounds like it was obviously added in. I think the audio there could maybe use a little reworking or maybe a better filter.

Palpatine’s very presence in this movie derailed the finale of the Sequels’ internal story just to appease the Prequel Memes crowd. We would have been better off with even fewer Prequel references than what we got.
Never thought I’d be glad to see more grey in a modern cgi-heavy blockbuster, but I definitely like this more than the theatrical.
I’m second guessing the added Ach-To establishing shot. When I watch it it feels tacked on with the same musical sting. Plus the new shot has a lot of birds that don’t show up afterward.
The birds I didn’t mind. The new position of the sun implies to me Rey and Luke have been speaking for some time, so the birds could have left.
Maybe the musicial sting itself in the second shot could be removed/replaced?
Would cutting her “Always, in the shadows” do anything to help? Poe saying “Palpatine was pulling the strings” and Leia just responding “From the very beginning”?
I wish they had at least phrased it like a question. Poe wondering if Palpatine had been manipulating them would have been better than just telling us it’s a fact, as if he’d even know.
During the infamous Ajan Kloss meeting, I wondered if maybe when Rey hears the word “Exegol,” the other voices could get a bit muffled and she could hear Luke’s voice quietly saying the same word before going back to look at his notes. Since the wayfinder hunt is finishing what Luke began (in more ways than one), it might be nice to bring more attention to him, and this would be an easy way simce Rey reacts to it.
If you want to get really radical, maybe Rey could hear Luke’s voice a few times throughout the movie. Though perhaps that would hurt the impact when Luke finally arrives in person and when Rey contacts the Jedi on Exegol.
