If Order 66 is declared en route back to Coruscant, I don’t imagine Maul should be fallen yet, this early into RotS?
I really just need to change Boz Pity into something related to the Siege of Mandalore, or not at all if we can just assume Boz Pity is the name of some Mandalorian city or province that Ahsoka and the 501st have moved into. Even if that’s not what Boz Pity is canonically. “Sundari” - the Mandalorian capital Bo Katan and co. is sieging - has the same syllables as Boz Pity, so maybe I can change it to that.
It’s just a tiny detail in the grand scheme; explicitly referencing Ahsoka and what she’s doing is already way more than I imagined I would ever pull off.

Here’s a quick mockup of the idea.
The problem I run into is that it kind of relies on us not knowing what the hell “Boz Pity” is in actual canon, (which I don’t to be frank) - we have to assume with its context that it’s like a part of Mandalore or something. Or that Ahsoka has finished up on Mandalore by this point and has sent some troops back to another front? Idk.

You can bet I already tried to find something for that a while ago. I toyed with replacing “Saleucami” with “Mandalore” or “Master Vos” with “your padawan” but it never sounded natural. If I can find appropriately toned clips of Ewan saying “Man”, “Da”, and “lore” it might work out better than JAT clips I tried using before. I just don’t know every line Ewan’s ever said in a movie like I do Hayden’s filmography since 2002. And with a similar accent to his Obi-Wan lines.
I’m watching Christopher Robin later today, so I’ll definitely give that idea another go. It really seems like something that should be discussed in light of the new episode.
…
Oh and for anyone with the link, the folder will be empty for a few days, as I put up a new revision in light of some really bad audio problems, and maybe whatever new changes I come up with.

Plinkett (Mike) went to film school & knows what he’s talking about. Yeah, his reviews are entertaining, but they’re also full of solid points &, yeah, a little nitpicking, which he always points out.
NosalgiaCritic & CinemaSins on the other hand… garbage.
I agree with Broom Kid. Film making itself is an attempt to trick you. Sometimes it works, some times it don’t.
Operative phrasing being he went to film school. People should have let Plinkett’s schtick be his schtick. He created a character/voice for the reviews - a unique (at the time) vessel for his own opinions and analyses.
But that’s not how you analyze film. That part of it was comedy.
YouTube film criticism has become mostly insufferable because a lot of people thought looking for the joke or scathing take a.l.a Plinkett was film criticism or analysis. It’s not like the kid in the video isn’t discussing something interesting to point out, it’s not like a lot of YouTubers don’t have a point sometimes - but their smug emulation of that style is unnecessary and has fostered a terrible mainstream moviegoing culture.

The problem is that the doable to worth it ratio for Rey as Luke’s daughter isn’t very high. It’s not an idea that’s universally good enough to devote the amount of time and labor needed to pull it off. So why pursue it when there’s a better option that is 10x more possible with broader points of contribution?
Anyone can make a personal edit on that level and share it, but the vague idea alone isn’t strong or neccesssary enough to crowdsource the specifics of how to pull it off, where to start, and the talented people to do all of that labor.

For the hands-on stuff you describe, it’s really just about making good impressions, being around others in the industry. Networking, basically. Film school and PA training is mostly useful for putting you in that environment. So as long as you make friends (that you keep in touch with) and keep a strong work ethic, it shouldn’t be too hard to get below-the-line experience and become employable (union) in that sense. You don’t even have to finish college if that’s all you’re aiming for. Depending on where you live, there will be FB groups, festivals, or other general meet-ups where you can socialize with the people that can get you in.
You’ll probably start as a PA, but then it’s up to you to get in good with a department you want to work in - sets, wardrobe, electric, grip, etc. College can give you more specific internship opportunities at studios, a lot of which can range from office stuff to equipment management.
That being said, it’s definitely a hustle, and the ideal “getting a job out of school” thing won’t mean the same thing as it does in other industries. Film/TV is seasonal work, and you’ll have to be looking for the next gig and the next and the next* until you’ve established yourself within the local industry and built relationships that will get you called, maybe to even those more important, higher up jobs. Upward mobility isn’t really a thing without relationships with the right people.
Pre/post-production work and other above-the-line stuff is less easy to get, and a lot of luck. But it’s a little more traditional. I think there’s more initiative to do things yourself here - write scripts, direct your own shorts, compile a portfolio, etc. And then submitting those to agents, post-houses, festivals, studios, production companies, etc. College learning is more useful here; that’s where you’ll learn technical craft and industry standard practices - but even that can be learned at home. The degree/certification itself won’t be more important than what you can show, but if the program is good or you did work hard throughout, you should come out with a portfolio. Just remember, that’s still not a guarantee of employment.
*(depending on your path, working at a studio has a little more permanence than crew-work but it’s not necessarily production work)

Even if you believe Star Wars is just supposed to be about the Skywalkers, there’s nothing wrong with having the last trilogy be about the influence of that family and their story. That’s still ostensibly about them.
Rey Nobody, a girl who becomes a hero from being inspired by their legend, is a meaningful way to cap off their legacy. It’s a lot better than a daughter inheriting her father’s responsibility and just seeing it through. (also why Kylo/Ben not seeing his through was interesting!)

^I’m pretty sure in Hal’s it’s after he talks to Palpatine, before the council meeting rejecting Anakin’s appointment.
Also, man I love that Palpatine/Anakin scene. It’s great to see it this usable.

I definitely think Palpatine’s return was a bad idea, but to be fair to the ST, there was “peace” for 30 years. That’s longer than the Empire even existed. The First Order’s reign of less than a year is just a blip - relatively - with the OT victory still being the larger, more important one. Especially when the new generation owes so much of its success in quashing TFO before it really got going, to the previous victors, anyway.
Palpatine stayed gone for a long time, and his contingency mostly failed.

So just for fun, I edited the first 22 minutes of this into an episode of The Clone Wars:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14Nm4JAjyjGJQhY4t1k9nbBUtkgz2MY98/view?usp=sharing
I just very roughly frankenstein’d audio for the “recap” and it’s super compressed for the storage limit, but it’s not a serious thing anyway. Just a fun preview for the rest of the edit. It’ll be interesting if we could watch this seamlessly in between season 7 episode 9 and 10 when they come out.
I also have a new, experimental color graded vers available. PM for a link to that if you don’t have already have a link to the GDrive folder. (which I realized too late was a much more efficient way of storing the edit; about a dozen of you don’t have it)

It always amuses me knowing that Hinton was a teenage girl when she wrote the Outsiders. It’s 100% just her fanfiction about boys.
Loyal, caring, bromance in a group of angsty greaser prettyboys. Bad boys with hearts of gold. It’s great.
