Wow! I picked up MoveAlong's The Story of The Empire Strikes Back last night and it was fantastic. What an outstanding effort. And this is a great way to re-experience something I loved as a boy. I can't thank you enough. Cheers.

Yeah, I want to second that. Thank you MoveAlong. My self and my kids love them. Very professional effort, I dare say "Hollywood" quality.

Again, thanks for the kind words. Cheers...

Well, because it looks like crap. I tried initially to use it, cleaning it up, etc. But, like a lot of the GOUT footage, it is so bad I didn't want to open my edit with it.
Ah- I see. Thanks!

MoveAlong, do you happen to have any info on the '1980 Trailer 1'? It looks like a TV spot that I saw around the time the film came out, and I haven't seen it since.

I know this came from Editdroid, but I was just wondering if you knew if this trailer is a TV spot or a theatrical trailer. I'm also curious about the source- it looks like it was shot with 8mm film off a TV or movie screen.

I have no connection whatsoever with the EditDroid team, so I know as much as you do. It seems like it's definitely a theatrical trailer. To me, it looks like a film projection being videotaped. The version on EditDroid Special Features is interlaced. I deinterlaced the version on Story of Empire so I could pillarbox and resize for anamorphic. My version is 16:9 pan & scan. That is, on 16:9 sets it's pillarboxed and on 4:3 sets it's fullscreen. The aspect ratio is correct on both kinds of sets.

Wow. Thanks, Zion! I really appreciate the kind words (and to everyone else, as well). I remember being blown away by your ROTS menus. "How does he do that?", I thought to myself. So that means a lot to me coming from you. I have yet to watch it on a nice TV, so it's good to hear that it presents well on a nice HDTV set up with the Oppo. I'm embarrassed to say that other than my 17" Mac monitor, I only have a *gasp* 13" CRT! Kind of hard to see quality on that! I know, I'm ridiculously lacking in the home theater dept. Still waiting for those prices to come down .

I will again echo your comments on Rebel11_38's crawl. It simply kicks ass and really makes the edit legit as a believable SW experience.

I used the Fox logo from the most recent release of the original 1976 The Omen. It took me about 12 netflix mailings of Fox movies from that era to find one that half way matched. It was a lot more difficult to find than I first thought, that's for sure! The colors and brightness are always different, and surprisingly a lot of Fox movies from the mid to late 70's don't even have opening fanfare. I do still have the Omen Fox logo VOB if anyone wants it for their own edits.

I did create all of the credits. The starfield is from the GOUT (and is the same one used behind Rebel11_38's crawl). Still credits were done in Photoshop and composited in Final Cut Pro. The scrolling credits were done in Apple's LiveType and again composited in FCP.

...I seriously need to find a good TV to watch this now!...

Serious ripping issues

Being expensive and brand new is actually good. I'd take it to an Apple Store if there is one close. If not, take it to an authorized Apple repair center and have it looked at (or Apple directly if that's the only option). I'm sure either place would have an external drive to be able to see if that's the issue. If it is the internal drive that's screwed, at least it won't cost you anything other than inconvenience...

Good luck...

If it's doing it with different ripping programs, it may be hardware related. But, sometimes MTR goes crazy on me. Trashing its preferences file works for me. It's titled "com.Geezerbuttz.mtr.plist" and is located:

~/Library/Preferences/com.Geezerbuttz.mtr.plist

~ is your home directory. Delete that plist file and MTR will start up as if it were the first time. It might help and it won't hurt anything.

You might also try an external usb/firewire DVD drive and see if that can work. If it does then that might point to internal drive problems.

OK... Help me get started (Mac editing)

In version 2.6.6, you'll want to be in either "Title Only Extraction" or "Title - Chapter Extraction" mode. Click the "D" button (stands for demux), then click "Streams" button. That will slide a sidebar out of the window which gives you the options of which streams to choose. Only check the ones you want to extract. This will give you only what you want. It's in the manual, but it's not obvious when you're in the program.

Just got back home. Good to see myspleen's going. Thanks digitalfreaknyc and seeders!

vbangle, I'm using an Epson R380 with this kind of paper. Rikter clued me in about that paper a while back. It's great stuff and pretty reasonable at around 15 cents a page. The R380 obviously does a great job with discs and premium paper. It's going for $104.99 at buy.com.

Even though the limited edition copies are gone (SKot, yours is still waiting for your address), I can still send out copies to those of you who may be bandwidth challenged. PM me. Thanks again to everyone...

P.S. For those who received seeder copies, now is the time to help out!
