Movie Making: Tools of the Trade (opinions from Mac Folks welcome)
Time
I think the general concensus is that anyone who uses Final Cut, pretty much likes it so much that they stop using everything else. I believe this is especially true of editors who are former users of Premiere. Adobe killed Premiere for the Mac after Apple came out with Final Cut because that version of Premiere had been languishing and couldn't compete. Adobe is re-entering the Mac market with their new version of Premiere, so it will be interesting to see if they are serious about competing this time.

The time old myth of Macs being so much more expensive is really tiring! Go do a feature for feature comparison between a Mac Pro and a similarly equipped Dell Xeon workstation and you'll find that many times the Mac Pro is actually far cheaper. And yes, Final Cut will run on the consumer Macs quite well. I run Final Cut on an old 1GHz G4 iMac with only 768M RAM and it does just fine. Final Cut should scream on a new Intel iMac, I'm quite sure, in comparison to my old rig. I've even heard of people here running Final Cut on their Mac Mini's acceptably. I'd love to have a Mac Pro, but I don't have to have one to do nice work. End of rant. Sorry....

But ReverendBeastly is probably right. Do you want to work on windows or a Mac? If you buy a Mac, you can do both...

My Epson r200 is an absolute workhorse. Paid under $100 for it new in '04. It has printed literally thousands of discs and covers for me. I'd wholeheartedly recommend whatever the current version is. I know you have one of the discs and covers that my r200 printed ...

Update - It actually makes a series of BMP stills - now all I have to do is figure out how to make them into a video file...

JD, it's dead simple. With Quicktime Player...

File -> Open Image Sequence... Navigate to the folder of stills, select the first one... From the popup list, choose your framerate... Export your movie with whatever codec you want. No need to tarnish that Mac with the dark side just yet...

Also, I mainly use my PC for gaming and video editing, and it's even more of a pain in the ass to find Mac-compatible games.

Not to mention the fact that the only good Mac-compatible torrent client is Azureus, which I hate.

If you don't like Azureus (believe me, I hear you), Transmission on OS X is very nice. I've been using it for about 6 months now.

Erik and MoveAlong, could you guys post the art on the first disc as a DVD-ROM folder. The discs are named STAR_WARS_FEATURES_1, STAR_WARS_FEATURES_2, etc. If the ones I sent out are labeled NEW or anything else, I'd appreciate the discs be distributed with their correct names. Just out of my GREAT respect for the EditDroid team. I was a bit sad to see these leaked, but what's done is done. Anyway, the PiF chain and the torrent should be going in the next day or so. I appreciate all your patience for these discs to let us release them correctly.

Couldn't agree more. It was frustrating as an "end-user" with the original EditDroid set. Did I have the real thing? What was the real DVD-ROM content? WAS there DVD-ROM content?!

Sluggo, I got the replacement disc 1 today and it works fine. I noticed that there is a JACKET_P folder on it. The other 3 discs I received do not have the JACKET_P folders and are as you stated, named "NEW". Can you get the JACKET_P folders to me and Erik? They shouldn't be too big. Erik and I should also probably get together and make sure our file names and structures are the same...

Since I finished the edit, I've been kind of taking a break from the project. Recently, I've been colaborating with another member here on cover artwork that is coming along nicely. At this point, I need to start conceptualizing some motion menus and layouts and basically start the authoring process. I also need to transcribe subtitles which is very tedious work. I'm still on it but it's going to be a few months at least...

Got mine. Unfortunately, disc 1 was a coaster. Should have a replacement soon.

First impressions?

Most impressive... As stated earlier, the professionalism of the authoring is amazing! My favorite part so far (haven't seen disc 1 yet) is the trailer section. I don't know, but some of the theatrical teasers and trailers for Empire and Jedi look so good that I suspect that they are first generation 35mm telecines specifically obtained for this collection. Amazing color! Blows away anything LFL has ever released on home video. Oh, to think what could be. Some of the trailers also have deleted scenes. Luke/Leia kiss, 3-PO pulling the wampa warning sticker down, Falcon sandstorm scene, etc...

Bottom line?

Every self respecting fan of the OT needs to have this in their collection. Sure, a lot of the content is already out there. But, not all of it by a long shot. When I get disc 1 I'll be posting as soon as I can.

Sluggo, Is there disc and case art on disc 1? I noticed that discs 2, 3, and 4 did not have anything like that.

I'm leaving this thread open for discussion about the disc's contents, but please no more talk about software piracy.

Sorry, did not realize this. I always assumed it was a limited freebie release, bundled with a magazine or something...

Just finished getting the PAL torrent. I will hold off on making rar's and par's for usenet until the proper label is posted...
