Capture Programs and Codecs (Laser to PC Project)
Time

The Direct Stream Copy/Full Processing Mode setting does not have a bearing on capturing.

A quick explanation:

 - for simple operations with AVI files - for example splitting a large file into smaller chunks - where the audio and video are not altered, use Direct Stream Copy

- if you want to apply any filters to the video, e.g. noise reduction or colour correction, then you would need to use Full Processing Mode

Time

Video: YUY2 format, compressed with a lossless codec such as Lagarith or Huffyuv.

Audio: 2-channel 16-bit PCM - it will be 44.1kHz if you are grabbing the digital stream directly from the laserdisc; if you are recording the analogue audio source, then sample at 48kHz so no conversion is required for DVD.

Can you clarify what you mean when you say "capture the audio separately"?

If you are capturing the analogue audio output from your player, you'll find it difficult to sync later if you don't capture the audio and video together. If you're capturing a digital stream however, there should not be any audio drift.

Im about to watch pirana 3D, which is supposed to be gory........i bet i fall asleep before the end.

Back in the eighties, I saw Jaws 3 at the cinema. Crap acting, non-existent story, a reliance on a 3D gimmick and abysmal special effects.

The 2010 remake of Piranha is even worse.

Probably not comprehensive, but you could try the list at the top of this fourm:

.. and the list of preservation projects on the fan project wiki:

Help: looking for... Newsgroups Availability of the Moth3r DVDs
Time

Thanks for reposting these DM.

Some notes from what I can remember:

Audio for all three came from my 1995 VHS tapes. I did run the audio files through a click/pop removal filter, but I may have reduced the strength of the filtering for RoTJ thinking it wasn't necessary.

Surprised to see comments on the PQ for RoTJ - although this disc has the best colour, it's also the softest image and looks a little blurred.

Known flaws are listed here:

I really should get on and do a V2.

I got the V1.0 ISO files released in 2005. So that's what I'd repost.

Actually, I think I used the IMG extension. The disc image was built with ImgTool Classic, IIRC.

Anyway, you mean to tell me you don't have the original RARs? I'm disappointed in you, Mallwalker. I'm wondering if this software has any mileage with respect to DVDR releases.

Who wants to hear some good news?

Firstly I won a set of the 1995 THX French LaserDiscs yesterday, unfortunately it wasn't the 'Coffret' box set I had been looking for which I understood to have English audio and French subtitles in the black bars but instead it was a set of the 3 individual releases which I understand have French audio and no subtitles.

Yes. This is the set I used in my old LD transfer.

I have also won a set of the 1995 THX Widescreen VHS (English) to fill in any gaps.

The "gaps" are in ANH, missing screenwipe at the end of side 1, and ROTJ, missing screenwipe at the end of side 3.

Now as I don't speak or understand French, I will need to replace the French audio with English audio. To do this what I thought I would do is sync the video from the LaserDisc captures to the Video from the PAL GOUT DVDs which will also sync my LaserDisc captures to the GOUT English audio at the same time solving the audio problem. :D

You may find that the LD video is shorter than the GOUT video - in which case you would have to trim the GOUT audio to match.

If anyone who is interested in this release has and can share the 5.1 audio from the US OUT LaserDiscs then I would be more then happy to sync the 5.1 audio to the GOUT 2.0 audio and use the 5.1 for the final release like I did for the 1997 SE.

The US OUT LDs did not have 5.1 audio.

Shat seems to have mangled the grammar of CA's original text.

As for The Exorcist, yes, watch it. I saw it in the cinema in 1998 (the film was effectively banned in the UK for many years), and it's not as scary as its reputation suggests - in fact I felt it was a little slow in some parts. However, there are some good moments, and its success and influence on popular culture are undeniable.

Reports of people fainting or throwing up, and the tag "scariest movie ever", are often linked to horror films for marketing reasons (so die-hard horror fans will go and see the movie "as a challenge"). Such films generally turn out to be over-rated: see Silence of the Lambs, The Blair Witch Project, and most recently Frozen.

Definitive Collection question......
Time

Yes, there's no way to tell the re-issue apart from actually playing it.

The first pressing is missing several seconds of footage from Disc 2, Side 3 of The Empire Strikes Back. The reissued disc starts with Leia welding, sparks and all, while the defective pressing starts with Leia hanging up her welding gear.

I imagine it's a bit late now to ask Fox to provide a corrected version!
