Thanks for keeping the links alive, hairy. I recently had a PM asking for this so I'll point them to your post.

Can you give an example of the IVTC errors you are seeing on the GOUT disc? I noticed some flickering on R2D2 in a couple of places, which I think is an IVTC problem, but I've never seen any combing artefacts.
^ Disappointing. Added to warning list.
DJ, I haven't used SP3 yet, but as the manual says it should work. All I can think of at the moment is that it's a colorspace issue; have you tried a ConvertToYUY2() at the end of the script?
Are you taking a cam with you?
;-)
That's a good point - while I understand the reason why h_h used a dialnorm of -31 (to avoid any attenuation being applied by the decoder), it does make it more difficult to use the track on a disc with multiple audio streams.
I spent quite a while adjusting the dialnorm values used for the three mixes on my DVD, and it's still not a perfect match, mainly I think because the '93 mix has a much greater dynamic range than the mono or Dolby Stereo mixes.
However, there is a program called VOBDNorm that you can use to change the dialnorm setting on a DVD's audio stream without encoding. I used it to make my original LD transfer louder.
Enabling dynamic range compression will have no effect, because h_h did not set a DRC profile during encoding.
Thought this snippet was interesting.
The NFO for "The.New.Guy.SVCD.TS-Centropy", released in early May 2002, contained the following note:
PS. Want Episode 2 in this quality? Dont count on us to bring it to you. the unwanted media attention the current releases has drawn has made us more than a little reluctant to put a release out. Having said that, we are sure someone else will come to the rescue, for all you Star Wars fans out there.
The first TS was released by FTF on 9 May 2002. Despite the quote above, Centropy did eventually release an SVCD TS on 22 May - initially it was named "Something.We.Had.Laying.Around.SVCD.TS-Centropy".

... The issue of "preserving the OOT" didn't exist, because the SE was brand new and available in VHS (LD was obsolete by then) so the versions were totally equal, and there were still a ton of the Faces tapes in stores.
Laserdisc might have been on the way out, but was by no means obsolete; and the SE was released on LD in 1997.
The format was almost dead in 2000, but The Phantom Menace still got a LD release in Japan that year.
Incidentally, even though the 2001 DVD release of TPM looked like shit, it still achieved record sales in the US.

… 1990s sci-fi film, heavily laden with CGI special effects but enjoyable and entertaining nonetheless.
See also Independence Day (1996), Starship Troopers (1997) and Men in Black (1997).
Discuss.
Now that I think of it, I seem to recall posts on here about EoD on the PAL DVD being field-blended. I recently got hold of the 2004 extras disc off eBay for £1, but haven't had the chance to check it out properly yet. I guess I'll have to now source the NTSC version.
I posted a few images from the WOW! montage in this thread. I think that the original laserdisc master was letterboxed, and that it had been upscaled to anamorphic for the THX Demo Disc DVD. I also don't think that there are any complete shots in the montage. Still, some images might be useful because of the absence of DVNR (the film grain in one of the shots of the Hoth battle is beautiful).
Yes, thanks.
You could always do...

What?
Hmmm...not fair to delete the spambot post but leave my reaction, which makes it look like I was reacting to the previous post.
BOOOOOO!!!
Easy solution - don't respond to spam posts.
LeeT's Replica Technicolor project has now been added to first post and the screenshot comparison page.
While searching for this,
I found this.
Well, I do prefer my colour adjustments and minimal noise reduction.
But as I said on page 1, still pics don't show you g-force/DJ's stabilized wobble, which is a deal breaker for some.
And, of course, there's your excellent work on the subtitles...
For VirtualDub, there's also the MSU Logo Remover that looks to be a little more advanced than Logoaway.
(Looking at the other filters available on that page, the one for removing hard-encoded subtitles looks like it might be useful.)
I got the chance to scan through your SW disc the other day.
While you've made some very interesting choices wrt the colour grading, personally I wouldn't choose to watch SW this way. My main issue is the brightness; it's almost as though you've attempted to match the photos taken of the screening exactly, even those that are obviously overexposed.
Also, I was grabbing some screenshots to put up on my Custom DVD comparison page, and DGIndex complained about detecting a bad field order transition. You mentioned that you used different settings for the binary sunset scene - how did you go about encoding the different elements? I'm wondering if you used some sort of MPEG2 editor to combine the shots, and that caused this. I don't know, however, if this would cause any real issue with playback.

So, this is... oregano... right?Yes... oregano... for the pizza....
Shouldn't that be oreganos?
???
That's origano, you legohead, it's an invariable noun
It's oregano, and it's a mass noun.
Just like Lego.
Do you yanks have Meccano over there? Do you call it Meccanos?
Even Though This Thread Title Has Billy Dee Williams In It, The Thread Has Nothing To Do With Star Wars
The OP contains a picture of Billy Dee Williams. Billy Dee Williams played Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back. Therefore, the thread does have something to do with Star Wars.
Anyway, best post the thread in here, rather than risk it turn into a moronathon in the virtually unmoderated off-topic forum.
Talking of moderation - TML, you are already under a warning for posting an image-only post. I suggest that if you want to avoid a temp ban you add some text to your post explaining why you have posted a 1985 prediction of what Michael Jackson was going to look like in 2000.

This thread is about the Usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.starwars.
Edit: Where's Ric Olie when you need him? ;-)
Currently, I just hook a laptop up to the TV - I know I'm a little behind the times.
I have a cheap TV in the bedroom that can play media off a USB hard drive/memory stick, it can read AVI and MKV, the manual says it can play HD content, but it can actually only decode Xvid/DivX (no h264 - so, really, it's useless for HD).
Considered getting a WDTV and modding it with a firmware to allow it to play disc-based media off a compatible USB optical drive. However, the price is comparable to a standalone BD player with MKV support, which would also have the advantage of being able to play original DVDs and BDs without having to rip/decrypt first.
Anyone use XBMC on a jailbroken Apple TV?

And in response to Sluggo's image, I'm disappointed that the ll928.com site is still "under construction".
Yes; Crappy_Logo_Productions did it sometime back in 2004/05, also a member named "mumbles" produced an edit combining II and III in 2008.
