Anyone have an x0 laserdisc player?
Time
Take a look at this thread.

Laserman was our resident laserdisc expert (currently on a break from the forum due to illness) - he reckoned that certain industrial players give better video quality than the top-line US players.

Getting 5.1 off laserdisc is not easy. First your player needs to have an AC3 RF out - if it doesn't have one, it needs to be modded. Then you need to buy a demodulator that converts the AC3 RF into a pure AC3 digital stream. Finally you need a sound card that can record AC3 digital streams through a coaxial/SPDIF input.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: The InfoDroid Edit (Released)

-Cut entire sequence with Thuggee victim getting his heart ripped out and being lowered into the pit. Personally, I don't really enjoy watching sustained images of organs being pulled out and guys screaming helplessly as they're engulfed in flames. It's just not the kind of thing I like to watch repeatedly. I'm sure some of you will disagree, but I really felt it could be made more enjoyable to watch if a lot of this stuff was toned down. The Thuggees are evil enough being creepy demon worshippers and having stolen the shankara stones AND all the village's children.

This scene was actually trimmed down on the UK theatrical and DVD releases (to get a PG rating).

It was trimmed down even more in the badly edited version shown on TV, so the line "he's still alive" makes no sense (why wouldn't he be?)

In the UK, we have this term "rocking horse shit" which would apply to finding someone with an X0 player...

However, there was actually an X0 owner who used to post here at one time, "nin" was his username IIRC. I don't know if he's still contactable.

By all accounts, the most practicable solution for the less-priviledged is to look for the Pioneer LD-V8000, an industrial player with apparently better image quality than any of the home players - bar the X0 and X9 of course.

total newby question how to add a audio track to an official existing dvd?

I read you could do this with besweet but that not all dvd players could play it back.

Besweet can encode AC3 using ac3enc.dll, but the results are low quality and as you say may not be compatible with some players.

I have also read about programs to add an audio track such as ifoedit and dvdlab as well as dvdrebuilder.

It is more difficult to do this if you want to keep the same menu screens and such.

I don't care if it is play only or can only be watched on my pc.

My preferred software is Muxman for a movie-only disc, or Muxman & Vobblanker to replace the existing title and keep the menus. Look for threads in this forum where I've explained how to add the mono mix to the GOUT.

I think you are right about the possibility of having to edit the lengths of the audio or even sync up to the video since the dvd i want to match the vhs audio to is a different master than the vhs.

So i compare the lengths of the audio streams and the running time of the movie dvd vs vhs and if it matches up it will probably be easier to do this. if there are any cuts or edits in either audio or video this would be damn near impossible to do without also having to edit the dvd footage as well.

Of course my only other option would be to have to capture the analog video off of the vhs to dvd.

Do you have a capture card that can record analogue video? If you can capture your VHS, I can show you a very easy way to sync your audio to the DVD video.

Help Wanted: SLIPSTREAM image request - AND WIDESCREEN preservation request (Sky Movies subscribers see posts 4 onwards)...

Oh well, it was an idea.

If you can put up with subtitles, it's probably worth keeping an eye out for the Japanese laserdisc on eBay. Looks like they don't fetch a particularly high price (HERE, for example).

Another interesting fact I noticed: the Region 1 DVD release only had a Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track. The Region 2 disc has DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1

Seems like your request in this thread didn't reach enough Sky Movies subscribers, unfortunately.

However, there is one more chance - it's being re-shown on Sky Movies Sci-fi/Horror on Friday 30th May at 9:30am. I've altered the thread title; you could try posting a request in the Off Topic forum as well. (Although after annoyingmouse's post I think it's extremely likely that this will be the P&S version.)

Pre-ANH bootleg telecine - a widescreen version (Released)
Time
OK, here's the deal:

I never had the VHS source for this (and I don't know where the VHS came from, or how many generations down the line it was). The guy who owned the tape was very generous to make a dub for me using a DVD recorder.

I received the raw recording on two discs, and the quality was awful. I ran the video through some pretty agressive AviSynth filtering - to restore the 24fps, filter out video noise and fix some of the chroma shift. Even after this, I didn't think there was much point in uploading a 4.38GB DVD when there was little or no quality benefit over a 1.4GB MPEG-4 file. (And most people can play MPEG-4 on their DVD players these days.)

One of these days I'll get around to uploading the raw source discs, should anyone else like to take a shot at cleaning it up and releasing their own version.

What should be bannable offenses on Originaltrilogy forums?

DO people READ posters AND think THEY are YELLING at THEM????? If so Its in YOUR head dude!

In my head, Dayv sounds like Forrest Gump.

I think its funny, and no where near warrents a banning

I find it annoying - his desire for attention means that my eyes have to work harder. I'm too lazy to read any post of his that's longer than two lines; my eyes just skip it (sort of like a manual ignore function).

Yes it would be harsh to ban someone for typing in all caps - just as it would be harsh to ban someone who refuses to remove an annoying signature image - but it I do feel it warrants calling them a knobhead every so often.

I dont get the anti-caps lock thing some forums have. Its petty

Apart from the fact that it's universally considered bad netiquette, there is another more serious issue: some screen readers may falsely identify words in all capitals as abbreviations, and read them out letter-by-letter.

Date of Manufacturing or burning?
Time
Another thing worth mentioning is if the disc was recorded on a standalone audio recorder, as opposed to being burned in a computer's CD writer, then it has to be a kind of CD-R that's specifically for audio.

Despite the fact that these discs are marketed as "optimized for audio", they are exactly the same as normal "data" CD-Rs, but just include a piece of data saying they are audio CD-Rs. (And they are more expensive because of a RIAA tax!) Standalone recorders won't record onto CD-Rs that don't have this flag.

Arnie, you misunderstood the question. The issue is not whether they are burned or pressed, the issue is when were they were burned.

Say for example a band is starting out, not signed to a label, they burn their demo or promo stuff onto CD-Rs. If that band then goes on to become famous, what's to say someone couldn't make a copy onto another CD-R and pass it off as the original?

digitalfreaknyc, I don't know of any software that will tell you what you want to know. The only suggestion I can make is to look for clues on the discs themselves, for example, it they are on 74min/650MB discs they are unlikely to be recent burns.
