Ady said that shot looks like more like a birth of a star and not like a galaxy.

Witch reminds that if the shot stays it needs some re mastering.

If not you can have whatever it looks good for an ending. From a broken planet to a sunset behind an asteroid field. who knows

I know we've had this discussion before waaay back in the thread, but I would like to see some modifications:

(1) if they are outside of the galaxy that the STAR WARS stuff happens in, the fleet could be put closer to the spiral arms while retaining the ability to tell it is a galaxy (to have the viewpoint we see in the movie, the rebel fleet would have to be 100s of lightyears away from the galaxy).  If it is a star forming, maybe alter it slightly to indicate it is a star forming, as it looks exactly like a galaxy (maybe make the spiral arms more gaseous and amorphous, with the star looking more like this:

maybe take out the orange to keep the white-ish appearance).

In regards to other posts about the stars being other galaxies (if the galaxy IS a galaxy), also keep in mind that the light from the galaxy would wash out the ability to see any other stars/galaxies, so it would still appear black around the galaxy... IF it is a galaxy...

(2) probably my biggest beef is how the Falcon just zooms up and off to the left side of the screen.  If it is the SW galaxy, wouldn't the Falcon fly towards the galaxy?  If it is not the SW galaxy, wouldn't it still be more visually logical/pleasing to show the Falcon zooming off to the lower left (or simply zooming away slightly to the right in the same direction it was leaving the frigate, so we see more of the back as it heads directly away from us, as opposed to flying wonkily off to the side - ala the Falcon heading towards Yavin 4, after it goes under Yavin) then give the impression that the Falcon model is being pulled off the screen ala the Poochie cell in the SIMPSONS episode?

Also since I am thinking of ROTJ, how about adding the force choke rumble to the scene in the begining with Luke choking the guards.

I personally love both ideas (when Luke shouts out "DARTH!" and force-grabs his sabre, would it be lit the whole time as he rips it out of Vader's hand and starts pounding on him?  That would be interesting to see in motion); I still would like to see a test where Luke chokes the guards without raising his hand up.

Maybe the actual scene where Vader takes a dive could be edited out (though that could create problems, as Vader would go from standing up to down on his knees in the next shot), and the hacking Luke does could be edited so Luke takes out Vader's forearm almost immediately after he knocks him down.

It would be hard, but could Vader's fall from the carbonite chamber be used from EMPIRE in this way: there is the far shot showing Luke beating Vader back to the elevator; cut to a static shot showing Luke raising his hand (or making another gesture) and take Vader's fall and move it sideways to imply him being propelled into the elevator door; cut to Luke beating on Vader, who is now on his back; cut out some of Luke beating on Vader's lightsabre (as Vader is just holding it out) and maybe cut Vader's forearm off in the 1st or 2nd hit.

New pic time.

There's still a lot more to do with this shot yet but here's how it's coming along (right click>view image to see it a little larger)

The only thing I can think of to add any sort of scale to the transports is maybe show 1 or 2 people boarding the midground transport (say running up a ramp in the front)

ROTJ:

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned it, but one of my personal little annoyances is when the Gonk Power Droid is being tortured by a branding iron to his feet. The irons never connect to the feet, yet the steam shoots up (from little holes in the feet for the effect).

So please:

1. Let the branding iron actually touch his feet.

2. Make it look like the steam is in the 'shape' of the iron (so not coming from small holes)

3. Maybe an afterglow, when the iron rises afterward.

Note that I'll be happy as a clam with only #1. 2 and 3 are mere suggestions for further rounding the effect.

Speaking of the Gonk powerdroid torture scene, shouldn't the "voice" of the Gonk also be of a much lower pitch, as it's voice was much deeper (along the lines of the medical droid in EMPIRE) when on the Sandcrawler in ANH?  In JEDI, it is more high pitch, like Anthony Daniel's voice for 3P0 (which adds to the silliness, which itself is inappropriate for a torture scene).

I can't say I mind it, as it made me cringe as a kid (not in a groanish way, but being creeped out seeing something helpless get tortured way), which was the point (to further show Jabba's nastiness).... the problem is the high-pitched "no! no!" voice and the jerky movement of the robots in question.

I say if the scene is to be kept, keep the feet still (not moving around) with the HALish deeper voice doing a calm begging plea, with a scream being melded with static or a microphone resonation sound FX when the iron hits (and show the feet glowing orange and starting to melt instead of steam shooting out... maybe even show that the feet are already half-melted from previous tortures).

The point of the scene is to get the audience to fear what could happen to 3P0 and R2D2.  I would also get rid of EV-9D9's flapping mouth:

What. The. Hell?!?!

I know, everyone is entitled and all, but not to suck up or anything, but how could that scene have been improved any more?  This time, the victory is earned, as there is at least a bit of loss (hey, the Imperials can actually hit something now!).  Frankly, all 3 should realistically be blown away in seconds if the Imps were a real 1st world country military force like what we have in the US or what is in the UK... buuut this is STAR WARS after all (with the WW2 accuracy) and it is still about the good guys still winning.  Even so, it has to be earned through blood and suffering, and this one scene is pretty exemplary of that.

Another take:

Start with Luke in the cave (altered to look like Dagobah) finishing his lightsabre.  No Vader, just him.  Keep the lightsabre off to keep the reveal when he activates it at the Sarlaac pit.  Cut to outside the tree (from a shot in EMPIRE), camera pans up to star field, slowly rotates 180%, and camera comes down to 3P0 and R2 approaching Jabba's palace.

This could add implication that there are other Siths after Luke (being that you can't tell too well if it is Luke under the hood) or Luke has been completing his training since the 3 to 5 years since EMPIRE ended, as well as his planning of rescuing Han as his "final" per se.

One of my biggest problems with JEDI is the editing and the pacing.  There is really no need for Vader's scene in the beginning, as the Emperor arrives later and we once again see the Death Star 2.  Vader is still introduced when he meets the Emperor, and you would be able to cut out one more Imperial shuttle landing.  By starting the movie on Tatooine (or with the short Dagobah prologue), you jump right into the movie from where the characters were planning on going to at the end of EMPIRE, as well as essentially start the movie with the 2 robots that... well, started the first story.  This also saves the DS2 reveal for after Jabba's story is completed

I know there are not any King Kong 1976 fans here, but I must say that the Australian Blu-ray of KK 76 looks and sounds friggin great, and was not expensive at all.

You have at least one here (was 6 when I saw it in the theaters.  Dino was right; when monkey dies, everybody cries).

I got the KING KONG blu-ray from Mediadis for 9.50 Euros (which is also region free)

I'm taking it that both the European blu and the Australian blu are sourced from the Studio Canal print?

BTW, anyone want to do a group purchase on CUBE (it's selling for 7.99 Euros right now)?  It is region free, has english audio and removable subtitles.

ALIEN: REVISITED movie edit (* unfinished project *)
Time

It's going... still trying to wrap my head around After Effects and Vegas.  I am currently working on doing a HD version of KILLER HORIZON, with a few alterations of my own, as well as a complete KILL BILL edit called KILL BILL AGAIN.  This and DUNE:R will be worked on here and there, short of the color correcting, which will come first.

I will probably do 2 versions of this:  a purist edition, with the hydraulic arm erased and coffee cup continuity taken care of, with a few tweaks here and there (a better star field and some minor touch-ups), and a all-out fan edit, with new FX shots replacing some of the older ones.

If the sails on at least the main sail barge are enlargened (or a bigger sail is added), as well as ropes to "tie them down" like regular sails on a sailing ship, a shot could be added to show one of these sail posts being destroyed, with said sail and post falling to one side.  The Luke/Leia have an extending pole from which said rope can properly swing from.  Of course, showing the sail barge list towards the sarlacc pit and Han's skiff would help too.

Maybe another slightly larger version of the two sails could be created to overlap above the 2 sails seen here.

Of course there is nothing saying that Luke just uses his jedi powers to levitate Leia and himself over to Han's skiff...

You know, come to think of it, I wonder why they didn't have Leia kiss him on the cheek and say "for luck" again.  It's not like Lucas took anything else from ANH when doing JEDI.

Wow, vaderios, I never even noticed that...
Kind of cheap, come to think of it.
Regarding the ongoing subject of Vader's hologram, I agree with HotRod. It's in plain sight, clear as day, that Vader is looking upwards, almost like with the giant Emperor head-hologram. Maybe he's using the same stuff, only not bending down on one knee this time?
I've seen this other concept on youtube, and I'm sure it was mentioned here as well, how Vader appeared on a monitor instead of as a hologram.
It looked like a damn laptop more than anything else and didn't have that authentic Star Wars feel to it.

Adywan, you're right. You should definitely keep the hologram.

You know, I think I've come full circle on this... I concur with the full body hologram.

Mentioning the "Vader - Emperor hologram chat" makes me realize that Vader could very well just be standing on that glowing disc he kneeled on when the Emperor was calling up, which would mean that there would be a head-and-shoulders image of Veers in his chamber as Vader spoke to him.

Maybe the tech that is creating the Vader hologram could be changed to look like the circular pad Vader kneeled on (or have it projected from the console, ala R2's projector)?  Or maybe not change a thing?

STAR WARS TRILOGY The Very Special Edition (Feature length parody compilation) Version 1.0 available now.

This is some pretty funny stuff (sorry, but the Yoda thing was pretty funny).  I would probably stick to what is in the actual filmed STAR WARS stuff and do the overdubbing, which seemed to work the best (the actual ROBOT CHICKEN part with Palps waiting for his luggage kinda threw everything out of whack, as we just saw him go from human to clay).

Maybe you could play with have Vader's voice modulator "malfunction", which would explain his voice alternating from James Earl to Stewie (some of the lines where Stewie says the same exact line as JEJ have it cut back and forth to get the idea across - maybe show a shot of Vader messing with his chest buttons to try to fix it).

I WOULD shy away from all the "super-sped up stuff" (as it comes across as forced to me), unless of course you are planning on adding Benny Hill music.

Although there have been some interesting ideas i will be sticking with a hologram of Vader.

Cool enough.  After seeing the various mock-ups, I think the one that would fit the best while retaining the original concept would be the Vader head (as opposed to full body).  Regardless, still patiently awaiting the release to see what surprises you have in store.
