Superman II and Superman III extended (Released)
Time
I just bought the original U.S.A Home Video Making of Superman I and II BETA cassette from a video store that was going out of business. $1.95. It's still got the original release box. The BETA tape has both the Making of's on it and has red lettering. I however do not have a Betamax machine but I couldn't pass an original up that cost only a couple bucks.

This is the original U.S.A Video

I wonder if it is better quility than the transfers we have out there.

Anyone have a BETAmax and can they transfer.

You never know, I have looked at the tape and it looks hardly used... very interesting....

Any takers??

Superman 4 Recut Rough Cut (Released)
Time

I just finished work on this in rough cut form. There is many audio problems and drops as well as many cuts I still need to refine. Frankly some poor edting. This is why I call it a rough cut, it’s an assemble cut of what I am looking for.

I am using Magix Movie Edit Pro.

This is my first project and if it wasn’t for the encouragement from OCPmovie, Digital, Rikter and Fanfiltration I may have never done this cut.

What this cut is a version of the movie edited to the way I wanted it. Keep in mind it’s my first try with this stuff and it is rough at best. So I am calling it the Rough Cut. When I watched it last nite I found myself tearing it up and thinking about just hitting delete, then I thought about what what someone told me on the Orangecow movie message boards “If you have an interest everyone starts somehwhere, give it a try and don’t give up theres always help!!”

The Edits - I’ll get more in depth later. MORE DETAILS LATER

  • The movie starts with NEW TITLES and the original soundtrack Superman March Alternate from the OOP Rhino CD
  • Opens on the farm with a little twist. Some footage from Superman the movie is used here uncropped to the correct aspect ration - I am still working on this.
  • removal of just god aweful scenes and effects. Example - Superman entrance out of the phonebooth - fuckin lame he looks stupid. CUT
Removal of Lennys stupid jokes. CUT
Removal of the creation of Nuclear Man in Luthors make ship pots and pans scene - lol!!! CUT ( Actually this scene wasn’t needed the audience doesn’t really need to know how he used the DNA to create him we get the piont.
Removal of some of the Nuclear Mans moans as well as the bad special effects. ALMOST all of them.
(It’s funny how many special effects I removed how it doesn’t take away or even help the story with them in, wierd it’s like they didn’t need to add them)
  • complete re-edit of the of the throwing of all the nuclear missles, I cut the giant rope bag with all the missles. This is still work in progress I haven’t yet figured out how to get the piont across by cutting that.
  • Re-edit of the battle of Metropolis w/ Nuclear man and added soundtrack from the Superman 2 Soundtrack/ WIP
  • Cut Nuclear man capturing and taking MS. Warfield into outerspece (WIP) by cutting out the outerspace footage with ther being carried I made it look like it was nite amd moved some scenes around to make it look like shes in the nite sky instead of the stupid outerspace… lol~!!! to which she would be froze to death die and then burn up on re-entry.

Re-edits of some not needed scenes
Moved the opening scene of the russian cosmonauts to the end after his specch to metropolis and then into the credits. Damn this ending actually worked better.

I still have a lot to do somehow!!! I am learning…

I am sending the file to Rikter to review my rough cut anyone else want a copy I’ll usend it to your email address. Please respond only with good feedback and encouragement. I am not editing master like these guys.

Info: Mad Max Rarities/Road Warrior Japanese DVD
Time
R-18 of Mad Max 2 is the only version with all the complete footage.

There are two versions avaiable in Australia (M15+ and R18+). -The R-rated (and very rare) version contains more footage of Wez pulling the arrow from his arm including a close-up shot where the arrow can be seen poking through his arm and out the other side, and remains in close-up as he begins pulling the arrow through and out. The M15+ version cuts to a long shot after a very quick shot of the arrow in Wez's arm.
The rape and execution of the female driver as seen through the jiro captain's telescope is longer and more explicit
The shot of the two lovers in the tent that is torn away by Max in the truck is in normal speed, rather than fast motion as it is in the M15+ version.
There are two different voiceover versions for the beginning montage of the film. One is an Australian voiceover and the other American. The dialogue is also changed somewhat e.g. the Australian voiceover says, "...men like Max, the warrior Max, in the roar of an engine he lost everything. And became a shell of a man, a burnt out desolate man, haunted by the demons of his past. A man who wandered out into the wastelands and it was here in this blighted place, that he learned to live again," while the American voiceover says, "men like Max, who roamed the highways in the name of the law, who became a lover, husband, father, in the roar of an engine he lost everything, his woman, his child, his world. He wandered out into the wastelands. And here he would learn, that beyond the world of ? and machines, hope survives."
In some versions, Papagalo's speech from the scaffolding (after Humongous tells them all to "just walk away") is longer. eg. "And what then...?" (extra dialogue = We wander the wastelands and become like them, savages?) "But the first step, defend the fuel." (extra dialogue = and I stay, alone if I have to. I'll leave them nothing, that I promise!)

The r-18 true version was released once on Australian PAL VHS

Phineasbg/ HIGHLANDER II: Extended Versions (Released)
Time
Thanks again Fanfiltration for taking this project. ;-)

This version is going to ROCK!!!! I thought of an idea, maybe we could branch that fiarytale ending as an extra on the disc like OCP did with the OOLA scene on the Return of the jedi Classic Editon..just an idea for the future release.

It's truely the defenitive version. The New Lions Gate DVD is good but they tried to hard to make the public happy and changed to much of the story and the narrative. This is the version that Rusell M. himslef and Panzer went back after the US debocle relase and recut closer to actaul script. On the new DVD from Lions Gate they changed the whole Ziest thing which was a good idea but they screwed it up when they tried to change everything to make it earths past.... they should have just left it.....the way it was..

This Fanfiltration version is gonna be great....

BTW!!! If anyone has any rare Highlander stuff such as unreleased material, trailers, TV spots, rare photos. Televison making ofs or anything that relates to the Highlander series let Fanfiltration or myslef know. With all the materieal it just may get added to a extras section of the disc or discs that after the project is done I may help make. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Alan Smithee Cut of Superman 2? or not at all?
Time
In a recent interview with Richard Donnor, Donnor states he has no interest in the cut of the film and Warner has a kid working on it.

This is so frickin Bull!!!!!!!

I believe this will get as far as the Blade Runner Workprint restoration that dude was working on years ago..

I mean we are talking about Warner Bros here.....

They suc...... and no 134 min cut of Superman 4 also they stated in another interview... for more info go to the Supermancinema website.

Whatever!!

Question: So do you get any kind of credit for footage?

Richard Donner: Me? No, I don't want it; I want a couple of free tickets when it's done. No and you know they're also re-releasing Superman II with my version. We're re-doing it and all the stuff that Richard Lester took out of mine, we're putting back in.

Question: I didn't realise there was a Richard Donner cut of Superman II.

Richard Donner: No that was a Richard Lesser cut and all my stuff was laying in the vaults and there was a young editor named Michael Thor who came to me one day and said "Listen if you go on the internet everybody wants to see your version of II" and I said "I don't think it exists, there were cans," we were doing one and two at the same time. And we had to stop doing two to deliver one on time, so we did everything with Brando anyway, everything we remembered, so he called and said the studio gave me the go. Now they've reprinted all the material, they've shipped all the negatives from England and he's recutting my picture and again, he's asked me would I help. I can't because it's so long ago and the little bit of footage that I looked at, I would never shoot like that now in a million years, I mean it was a different way, a different style, different interpretation.

Question: When is that happening?

Richard Donner: That's coming out shortly before the release of the new Superman.

Question: How bizarre.

Richard Donner: Yep, yep, this kid's good too so, but I don't want to see it, I don't want to see any of those.

Idea & Info: a Dune Fan Edit thread...
Time
Before I get started, I wanted to say thanks to Fanfiltration for bringing us the Ultimate version of DUNE.

As for the new DVD -

Actually, it is the shorter of the Extended Versions. It.s not the Extended Version that was released on Japanese laserdiscs. The cut I have is 194 mins long and includes all scenes - including the heartbrusting scene. I think I snet in to Rikter to Author, the DVD is fullscreen 2 disc and is available. I think I sent it to him, or is it in the next box of movies I am sending him..... ?? I'll check

Anyways, the cut I have is the clearest known version of the (Longest Known Version) the new DVD is clearer but is not this version.

The New DVD runs 177 mins and is the edited for TV content version. BTW!! It's not really 194 mins, this version includes the crediits on each disc, presenting a two parter. It actually runs around 188 minus those intros.

If I did send it to RIK, he will tell you it's frickin sweat... And I guess it's the best we have for now....

If anyone wants to attempt to Extend the Extended Verision New DVD widescreen they could convert it to 16:9 wide and crop slightly my fullscreen scenes that were edited to create a all-new 16:9 wide cut and this would be the longest known version. One slight prioblem would be the soundtrack in these scenes added, would have to be 2.0 versus 5.1 for the rest but I guess you can't have cake and eat it too.

Also, it looks as if the last three DVD deleted scenes were cut at the last minute, they all have music and sound effects with them. Funny after all these years we finally know that all this time there was a version in widescreen of the TV cut, lmao!!!! So they must have cut it together with deleted footage shortly after the failured theatrical for TV ( or could it have been the long lost 4 hour cut that everones delies??
Which makes me wonder, all of these years this cut has been locked in a vault somewhere with noone talking about it and then suddenly it shows up for this release. We all knew there was a extended cut becuase of the bootlegs but we all thought it was peaced together with other sourced material and cropped and edited material, turns out NO...

Makes me aslo wonder if this alleged 134 min Superman 4 exists somewhere also?
