Phineasbg/ HIGHLANDER II: Extended Versions (Released)
Time

Sorry Klock,

It is a nice idea but I have to agree with Skizzorhands. The more and more I thought about it we actually do this stuff for fun and not for anyones profit. The minute money gets involved even if it is at the expense of just a "personal benefit" (ie: metal case for ourselves) it begans to take on a whole new meaning. I think it would be truely a great idea to get a case made though but when it costs money ( nothing is free) it's just not right. I wouldn't feel comfortable for some odd reason. I thank you though for takeing the time to contact him for the idea, it's people like you that are an awesome benefit to this board and the fan edit community Klock.

Also, Skizzorhands is the rightful creator of the art above. In the end it is his say in the use of his material.

Thanks for the awesome idea though, but the money issue is where that lies. The edits and material that we create on this board is for our benefit to enjoy and not for profit.

Talk soon!  Thanks for everything guys!

David Lynch's - DUNE - The Third Stage Edition (Released)
Time

That is sweet!!!!!

Here is a plot summary I whipped up!  Maybe you can add a tagline?

Taglines:

1: A place beyond your dreams, A movie beyond your imagination.
2: A world beyond your experience, beyond your imagination.

  1. Plot Summary:
  1. It is the year 10,191, various planets inhabited by mankind are ruled by a feudatory Padishah Emporer known as Shaddam IV (José Ferrer). Amongst these vassals are the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Kenneth McMillan) and his enemy, Duke Leto Atreides (Jürgen Prochnow), whom the emperor has come to fear as a possible rival. In order to rid himself of this potential threat, the emperor conspires with the Harkonnens. He grants the Atreides control of the planet Arrakis, the sole source of the Spice, a mysterious substance that allows the navigators of the Guild, a powerful organization that monopolizes interstellar travel, to fold space and thereby travel from world to world. Some time after the Atreides' arrival on Arrakis, the Harkonnens, aided by the emperor's own soldiers, attack and destroy them. The duke's son, Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), survives and escapes to live with indigenous tribes of people who were once thought not to exist. Rallying these rough nomadic tribes around him, Paul begins his journey to create peace and bring a new universal order.

Shouldn't there be some uniformity to the names though?

* Restored European Version
* Restored American Cut
* Special Zeist Edition
* Extended Zeist Version

I think at least the American/European ones should be labeled "XX Cut". The Special Zeist Edition would also be better suited to "Version", no?

I'm not having a go or anything and of course if the DVDs themselves are labeled on the menus and things that makes sense. Just asking, is all.

Hey Man!

How goes it? The DVD menus are labled becuase they were created at different times.

Here is the story. We originally began this project with restoring the "Early European Version" and it turned into all of these different edits..

As time moved along we created we ended up creating different versions of the film with the idea of it being for our eyes only.  Then we decided hell lets finish them all off and relese them so people could see the work. We put a ton of work into these edits why not show everyone, some took a year to make. I don't think people realize what we went through to be able to restore all these versions.

Here is a break down on why we came to these names and some other info on the edits.

Special Zeist Edition -

This version is basically the "Special Edition 2006 DVD". The reason why we named it the 'Special Zeist Edition" is because it is the 2006 DVD but edited to add the Planet Zeist, Quickening and the Prize references back in the film. All these references were cut when they came up with this future "Renegade Version" idea. The 2006 DVD has the new special effects and the new "Blue Shield" so we wanted to make clear that it is an edit of the "Special Edition" not the "Renegade Version" of the film.   IMHO, this is my favorite name for all of the Highlander 2 DVDs.  A ton of work went into this version. Note: This is the reason why it does not include the fairytale ending because it follow the "Special Edition" 2006 release to a T. The fairytale ending was never intended for the "Renegade/ Special Edition"

Extended Zeist Version -

This verison was created with the idea of adding the "kitchen sink" to the "Renegade Version of the film. This version is basically an extended version which follows the story line of the "Renegade Version" but adds and extends scenes. This edit retains the "orange shield effects"  trying to make it clear that is is an extended renegade based version. We have added all the Planet Zeist, Quickening and Prize dialog and footage back into the film.  This version even included the Cannes footage and all the deleted scenes back in the film. Yes, there is alternate footage in the Cannes 10 minute trailer (take a look, it's cool) some of the footage is really cool- includes some extened quickening explosions, cars exploding, an extended scene were Connor pulls out his sword in the warehouse when the cab driver drops from the ceiling, extended Brenda, etc.  (take a look)

At first this was a full blown DL DVD -9 with commentary from us about the edit as well as the original score, soundtrack, deleted scenes, enhanced deleted scenes, TV spot , two trailers (including a restored French trailer) and the "To be or not to be" documentary. We also even had a text commentary ( like the Superman II RIC DVD) breaking down each added scene since there was over 20 minutes that was added to the film. This version would have been released with the European scenes in 1:85.1 (this was because wee used the old Japanese DVD footage) So NOW we were ready to go and release it to all of you!  RIGHT? WRONG! When were were getting set to put the film on that demon place a guy by the name of TRACK100 (who is credited on the SDDVD-5 ) found an old widescreen transfer of the European version from a laserdisc (In Italian only) in not to bad quality.  This version had the opening credits and endning credits in Italian (becuase this was the way it was released in Italy in theatres)  but keep in mind we needed only the alternate footage that didn't exist in the other versions only. So now we postponed the release and had to add in all these widescreen scenes, not to mention color correct, enhance, etc.  When we finished we decided that more people would download the film if it was a SLDVD-5 so we cut all the extra features except, the restored trailer, enhanced deleted scenes and the ever popular recreation of the extended script version of the "fairytale" ending. (which was now possible because of the officially released deleted scenes on the 2006 DVD SE)

Restored Early European Version -

This version is actually an alternate Highlander II version which was created with alternate funding from an outside group. (Nigel Entertainment) This is my favorite version of the film as it actually had input from the director and producers. This is the version of the film they used to create the Renegade Version.  In 1995 at a sci-fi geek convention I came across a bootleg version of this film. This version was in poor shape and had Japanese burned in subtitles and it was fullscreen.

The funny thing was is that this was the version that was common on U.S. television, namely TBS. In the past I had not taped that cut and it was no longer played on TV so I had no copies of this version until that time.

Anyways, in 1998 I came across yet another poor quality version of this film but in widescreen. Then in 2006 I came across this message board and the rest is history. I wanted a clean version of this film and the stuff I collected over the years could make that happen, so I found people to help put it together.

It was named "The Restored Early European Version" because it is based on the Euro version of the film (explained above) Actually, this version was released first in Europe and then pulled because fans hated the "fairytale ending" so much that it was quickly edited from the film and re-released in Europe a month later wthout the "Fairytale" ending (hence the word EARLY European Version). I do not think people realize how much work had to go into this version to create it. In the end this was the version we needed to be able to create the others.

Restored American Cut -

This one we decided to create just for Phineasbg and me only. I got a copy of the TF1 video and I was quickly dis-heartended because of the bad 5.1 audio that TF1 created - it has a horrible hissing noise and half way through the video it is off dialog (out of sync) (not matching the lips) with the film. So quicky we decided to fix that problem but when we attempted to clean the existing 5.1 audio you can still hear that damn hissing noise (and we hated it) We also even tried to match the sync problems but there seemed to be problems with speed of the film  (this one is a wired speed as it drops several frames). In the end EVRYTHING was tried  but all failed. We decided the best thing to do was to restore the 2.0 soundtrack from a OOP laserdisc transfer - this matched up perfectly and we were on our way.

We also color corected, enhanced footage, and used the best possible footage from several other version to have the best possible quality prints. So we named it the "Restored American Cut" because it was the AMERICAN edited version of the version first released in Europe that failed miserably in the spring of 1991.

I don't think people realize how much I like this film. As it stands I have about 24 different releases of this film in various edits.

I love your uniformity ideas but the menus and the DVDs are done and created already. Poeple are already downloading so to change the names at this time would be hell, lol!!!

I am a fan of Highlanderf - the SOURCE also, and we know that story! It is almost the same story, wierd! Released in Europe and then recut for American audiences.

Hope you enjoy this set.

Thanks so much to EDWARDSKISSORHAND for those BOSS covers.

P.S. sorry for spelling errors and other errors I am typing this as I was on the bus and people talking and no spell cehck, lol  - BUMP BUMP!!!

I'm glad everyone liked my artwork, This is a very cool project. Do you need Disc art aswell?

Disc art would be wonderful - thanks man!!!! Glad someones interested in these films. Most people give it the WORST film ever award. Personally, I do not think it's that bad as it is truely the only sequel to Highlander I - IMNO.

Hey buddy,

Well we are working on the menus as I type. The TEMP DVD had a temporary menu becuase it was used only for the editing of the other versions.

All of these versions had to be created in order to create the Extended Zeist Version - EZV -

We decided to create a box set of some sorts (thanks to my friends /above/ who are creating covers for the film)so that the work can be seen in a whole set.

So this is sort of a Ultimate Zeist Box Set Edition - for those who love the original.

Anyways, it will be up on that demon place probably next week.

Nice to see ya! man!!

How about a four discs BOX SET cover -  SINCE ITS ALL ZEIST -

We've also restored the U.S. theatrical edition to all it's glory and have done a few other things.

Called it the

Restored American Cut

So now we have -

Extended Zeist Version

Special Zeist Edition

Restored European Version

Restored American Cut

*We have enhanced and restored the ENGLISH audio track on the U.S. American release of the film which had been originally offered in France on TFI video (now OOP).
Note: The french DVD ENGLISH audio track was restored due to  hissing noises evident during the film as well as an out of sync English soundtrack transfer. We have now replaced this soundtrack with a 2.0 Dolby Digital Stereo soundtrack which was used from several other existing/ various releases. Several attempts were made to create a 5.1 English soundtrack but failed due to the sync problems with various versions. In the end the poor French DVDs English soundtrack was unable to be remastered due to the poor transfer, hissing and sync problems. Sadly, a 5.1 un-corrupted, synced or clean soundtrack does not exist in any form for this U.S. version of Highlander II. Someday we can hope a 5.1 soundtrack that is not corrupt can be found.

In this edition:

*Now for the first time you can view this film with an enhanced 16:9 Widescreen view for your pleasure.

*Also, because of the saturation and horrible transfer on the French DVD we have color corrected, cleaned and digitally enhanced some areas of the film.

This film no more has hissing noise and no more is it out of sync due to the horrible  French DVD English soundtrack transfer.

For those that own that the FRENCH DVD pop that French disc in you DVD player an see and hear the difference for yourself. I think you'll see and hear the difference. Hope you like it! I don't think we will ever get an official release of the film other than that one French DVD that was released in TF1

Thanks so much guys - the covers look great and people will be very happy with your art.

Wow!! The one with the fire is awesome!   Thanks man!!! Can't wait to see the back!

Can you add the plot summary also to make it offical looking? Thanks

I wrote this, what do you think?

In this sequel to the 1986 film Highlander, Christopher Lambert returns as a member of an ancient alien race known as "Immortals," that are banished to Earth from a planet known as Zeist some 500 years ago. Now in the year 2024,  Connor Macleod has retired from a corporation known as TSC which created a shield that protects the Earth from radiation due to the depletion of the ozone layer. The corporation  now owned by an evil cartel is under attack from environmental terrorists which is led by Louise Marcus (Virginia Madsen) a scientist with the belief that the ozone has repaired itself. Its up to MacLeod who calls upon the spirit of Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery) to save the earth or watch it slowly parish in a shroud of darkness and corruption.

Please feel free to write any criticism, particularly technical. I will have to wipe my drives soon and would like for the fans to sign off on my edit before it's set in stone.

I tell ya man I was impressed with this edit.

This is one of the better put together DVDs' out there!

I really enjoyed the special features as they were put together very well. The Menus really grabbed my attention and got me interested in viewing the film. WELL DONE!

My only flaw with this edit is the logos (in the bottom right corner) from the station IDs - I really hate when stations have the ID all over the film. The IDs' draw your attention away from the spectacular editing job that you have accomplished here.

In the end it was worth it to have to deal with the staton IDs' because of the increased visual (video) quality and expierence you have achieved.

I give this edit 5 out of 5

You get the FULL BIFF from me for this edit.

Thanks for the honor!

David Lynch's - DUNE - The Third Stage Edition (Released)
Time

Thanks man!!! ;-)

Here some basic specs for the back cover -

David Lynch's DUNE: The Third Stage Edition

What is it about?
This is a special widescreen edit of David Lynch's DUNE that reintegrates footage from the Extended Cut, as well as some deleted scenes, while attempting to preserve Lynch's vision.  Also, unfinished extended scenes have been fixed so eyes are digitally colored blue.  The movie has been edited in such a way to preserve much of the sound and music of the theatrical cut, while incorporating Lynch's scenes from the Extended Cut.  Removed are the unapproved prologue paintings, male narrator, and fake "constructed" scenes from the Extended Cut.  Various drafts of the script have been used to put scenes in a logical order.  Our intent was to make an extended cut of DUNE that would treat Lynch with respect.

Original Film Name: DUNE
Film Studio Name: Universal
Date Film Was Released: December 1st, 1984
Date Re-Edit Was Released: April 2008

They look fricken awesome! The one your really interested in is the " The Restored Early European Version"

This is the 100 International ( British) restored cut - here is the specs for that one also.

what kind of fanedit (true fanedit = TF, extended edition = EE, special collection & preservation = SP): SP
tagline: More Zeist
original film name: Highlander II - The Quickening
new film name : Highlander II - The Quickening - The Restored Early European Version ( Restored International Cut)

film studio name : Republic Pictures
edit crew name : Phineasbg and Nighthawks
Date Original Film Was Released : 1990
Date Edit Was Released : August 4, 2008
Original Runtime : 101 Mins (International Version)
New Runtime : 101
Amount of time Cut/Added : Restored
Fanedit details (please add here details about DVD contents as well as video and audio information):  A different version of HIGHLANDER II : THE QUICKENING appeared in Britain around the same time as the American versions debut in 1990. This version contained different editing (than the one released in America) and was funded by Nigel Green of Entertainment Productions along with Panzer and Davis. The British version had the input of the director and producers and is much truer to the original script. The film contains the original ending where Conner returns to Zeist as he had promised and this is the only place that you'll ever see it. Ten minutes of additional footage were also added which helps the story immensely (including what happened to Brenda, Conner's girlfriend from the first film) and the narrative was edited together much better than the American version. This version of HIGHLANDER II has only been seen in America on a poor quality bootleg so most fans are not aware of its existence.

Phineasbg and Nighthawks Entertainment present an all new presentation of the film, digitally enhanced for superior sound and picture quality.

Now sit back and enjoy Highlander II: The Quickening the way it was shown internationally.

Hardware and software information (what did you use to create your fanedit): N/A

Time needed for the edition: 6 months

Anyone who may have not seen previous versions of this movie may have wondered ( by viewing the 2004 Special Edition) just how the hell they got back into the core chamber so easily in the first place.

I got to hand it to you, as it is amazing how many people are interested in this ABC cut.

I am very glad you restored it.

It is the talk of the fan world right now and it seems amazing.  I am downloading it right now! I do have a very my Encore presentation master but I am interested in seeing what you have done to it.  I realize that these sorts of restoration take a ton of time - Ie: see Highlander II REEV - SZE - EZV and DUNE - Third Stage.

Can't wait!!
