My store just got the new DVDs
Time
A lot (if not all) of the FX shots were recomposited. It's no secret that GL kept all of the film elements, they made a very big deal out of that when the SEs came out in 1997. I watched a documentary or 2 that talked about how most film-makers from that era didn't keep the separate film elements, and just kept the finished composites. The reason that they were able to go back and re-composite everything for the SEs was because GL had made sure not to discard the separate film elements, which was unusual at the time (and very smart, on his part).

So, all of this crap about there not being suitable material for new OOT transfers is just that - crap.

I think that might be a mistake- it says "DVD" too. Yes, it does say both DVD & CD.
Still, it looks nearly square -- like a CD case. Or the picture might be stretched.

I don't know for sure what it is. I'm just sayin' you might wanna find out before sending money....

I'm going to buy it in the store, so I'll check it out when I get there.

So if I buy from Circuit city, I get those nice folders and prints? I'm there!

I think you have to buy all three DVDs to get all three corresponding folders/prints.

Here's a link to some other links of the various exclusives from Wal-Mart, Best Buy (US and Canada), Target and Circuit City:

HERE

Looks like the price of the Best Buy tin has come down (US $59.99).

I'm leaning towards the tin- although the lithos from CC look nice. Can't see too well what's in the Target editions. I have the original comic books already.

So, this is how the DVDs are going to look...

Ok- I just popped the ROTJ LD into the player (actually, the DVD-R I made of it), and I stood very close to the TV set (to approximate the distance I sit from my computer screen).

I watched the same scene from Jedi (the 3-ghosts) and I definitely see film "weave" in the scene. I never really noticed this before, but I usually don't sit a-foot-and-a-half from my TV either.

Even today, I don't think most DVD transfers are done by scanning the film frame-by-frame (it would be way too expensive). Failing that, the film has to be run through a telecine "projector" of sorts (I believe) for the film-to-DVD transfer process.

I believe that the majority of film-sourced DVDs on the market today are done this way, therefore you'll see "wobble" on any of them (except for films that had frame-by-frame scanning done, like the SW trilogy SEs, The Wizard of OZ, Citizen Kane etc.)

I've noticed quite a bit of film wobble on my 25th Anniversary DVD of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, for example.

Yeah, I mean, I watch the LDs a lot, and the "wobble" was never noticeable to me. That's what film looks like when it's run through a projector.

Also, the DC and Faces LDs were relatively free from film artifacts. Maybe these DVDs were made from pre-video noise reduction masters then? (unless we're talking about artifacts introduced by the DVD compression).
