OK, here is a preview of the CD covers I made for these. I still haven't redone the ESB front, if anyone has a nice high res version of that poster or image used I would be happy to redo it. The ones I have are kinda crappy and pixelated. otherwise I'll up these soon. I tried to keep them close to the album covers, yet make them all sort of similar to each other.

This is the art you need for the SW back cover (this is the mylar poster I described above):

not to derail the topic, but isn't the quote "more wealth than you can imagine"? I thought it was "well" for a long time, until i realized that wealth made much more sense in context.

Yes, it's "wealth" (I checked the script in my copy of The Art Of Star Wars). I always thought it was "well" too, (although that makes no sense) but that does sound like what he's saying.

the academy luke wants to go to

did luke nearly become an imperial pilot at some sort of imperial training academy?

I don't know what 'test footage' you're referring to, but George Lucas did film scenes with Biggs and Luke (played by Mark Hamill) that deal with Biggs joining the rebellion.

They're all over YouTube- here's one:

Oh, that's not such a big deal. Throughout history there have been many real-life monarchs that were even younger than 13 (but yeah, it's crazy).

But consider in history they are usually put into power as a figure head if they are that young, if this was the case then I would have no problem with it. The problem is that the story is that she was freely democratically elected. That makes you think the Naboo are idiots. I didn't get this idea until that horrible "I was too young to be elected speech in AOTC", that made the whole thing seem silly frankly.

True enough. Frankly, I don't even remember that speech, since I've only seen AOTC once.

I can buy the part about her being Queen at 13 (her accent bothers me more than her age) but it's all of the other implausable and stupid stuff I can't get past in the PT.

I agree with many of you that AOTC was the worst of the prequels. All of the fake, forced love scenes, the Yoda swordfight, the 3P0 slapstick, the giant tick (lol)......

I don't own any of the prequels on video. I fell under some sort of mass hypnosis and bought the ROTS DVD when it came out. It sat on the shelf, unopened, for a few weeks until I decided to return it.

If the ones in charge at LFL had been clever, they would have put deleted scenes from the OT on the PT DVDs. I would have bought all of them then.

That's a nice poster. I got my SW LP in 1982 or 1983 and they had stopped putting the posters in by then. (Mine has the RSO label, instead of the 20th Century Fox label).

I do have another poster, though, one that I got from a sci-fi shop a long time ago- it's a promo poster for the SW soundtrack, and it looks just like the Vader face on the back of the LP cover but it's printed on silver mylar which looks really cool.

I own all three of the original soundtrack LPs, and I haven't listened to them in years (I stopped after I bought the CD Anthology and the RCA CDs).

I always assumed that the LPs were just edited down.....do they in fact contain music not present on any of the CD releases? (other than just being heavily edited versions?)

They are just edited down. There is nothing on them that isn't present on any CDs.

Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know if the Empire Strikes Back parody clip will be included in this new special on 7/17? (the one where Vader tells Luke he's his father, Leia's his sister, the ewoks defeat the empire, etc.)

If not, what is the name of the episode that featured that clip?

Real story about Vader & Luke

Yeah, I can't say which episode that was in, but I am sure it was a part of a regular episode.

I assume that it will be included (since I believe the emporer clip will be in there since it's in the trailer, and that was from previous episode as well, if I'm not mistaken), but I don't know for sure.

The reason I ask, is because there's a RC marathon that day, and I'd like to know the name of the original episode so I can record it, in the event it's not included in the SW special. I could record all 8 hours of the marathon, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

OK, I have another problem, in case you didn't know: I have a widescreen TV. Is there any hope in enjoying the GOUT there? I doubt it You can zoom in on the image, either using your TV's zoom controls or your DVD player's. Usually, the DVD player's zoom function will yield better results.

Do a search for more info - there are several older threads in this forum that deal with this issue.

Yes, the original letterboxed DVD of The Return of the Pink Panther.

Share your Star Wars theater experience
Time
I was living in Florida in 1982 which is when I saw Star Wars and Empire for the first time. I don't remember the theater(s) at all, but they are probably gone now- perhaps replaced by mega-plexes with stadium seating. I saw JEDI on opening day in '83 (also in Florida). I don't remember anything about the theater itself, all I remember is that it was a packed audience.

The AMC theater where I saw Empire SE has since been remodeled and turned into a huge hobby shop
(they tore down most of the interior walls and had to level all of the floors to remove the slopes). I think I also saw TPM there. I think I saw SW SE and Jedi SE at REGAL cinemas, but I'm not sure.

Your first words of reaction after watching one of the PT movies for the first time.

Marvolo, you're obviously very passionate about this (and that's admirable), but you have to respect Anchorhead's position as well.

Sometimes, it's those little "imperfections" that make a film so endearing. Would any sane person REALLY want to change the scene where the Stormtrooper hits his head on the door?! It was obviously a mistake, but I think most fans would miss it a lot if it weren't there (and I'm sorry, I didn't have the patience to see if that was among your 103 changes- )

corellian77 touched on this- but for many fans who were around in 1977, the film is not just a great movie, but also a sort of a snapshot in time representing that year. The imperfections are a reminder of the available technology at the time, and the wonderful solutions that came from sheer talent and creativity (which is why I prefer seeing the matte painting during the rebel ceremony scene, and the original tie-figher/x-wing models, etc).

When you start removing/changing stuff in the film, you're taking out little bits of the Summer of '77, and that means something to the people who remember it.

IMO, it's essentially sterilizing the film, and like Anchorhead, it's not my cup of tea, but then George Lucas probably agrees with you about a lot of that stuff, so there you go.

Let me clarify my original post; Star Wars doesn't need to be polished and fixed for me to enjoy it.

In fact, I prefer it not be altered at all - which is why I'm a member of this board in the first place.

Beautifully stated.

I've only seen Phantom, so all my thoughts are based on that one film. My initial thought was how it felt completely unlike the Star Wars universe. It was no different than any other remake of a famous movie from decades earlier. It felt like someone else's vision of Star Wars. There was absolutely no connection back to Star Wars (for me, anyway). It didn't look it, it didn't feel it, nor did it transport me to far away worlds.

The acting was terrible - in particular Portman and Lloyd. The characters were one-dimensional. I didn't care what happened to them. I felt no connection. Half of them served no purpose at all, other than to advertise the software that created them or to sell toys or Halloween costume tie-ins. The story is that poorly written - what little story there is.

I agree, it did feel like someone else made the prequels. Maybe the real George Lucas was abducted and replaced by a pod-person?

I agree about the acting, too. Portman's accent when she was wearing the Amidala costume was hysterically bad.

After AOTC: "I hated it." (that actually an exact quote. the very first words out of my mouth to my friend in the theater beside me)

Yeah, no doubt that AOTC was the worst. I've only seen it once, but I'll never get the images out of my head of that whole slapstick scene with Threepio getting his head torn off, and the scene with Yoda swordfighting with Christopher Lee. I would have walked out of the theater at that point if not for the fact that I paid $8 for my ticket and (out of morbid curiosity) I wanted to see if the film could get any worse as it neared the finale.
