Well I think yes
Star Wars - What has changed - watch page 7
I simply want to own a DVD with which I'm gonna be 100% satisfied, and if Boy George won't make it, I will

I remember looking at that a couple of years ago, and being amazed (horrified?) at how many changes there were.

It's your project, YOU have to be happy with it. If you feel that it's worth the resolution trade-off, then that's your decision to make. I'd probably do the same thing if I were you. The new SE shot of Artoo in the canyon bugs me as well.

Keep us updated!

I've read too on hear that the OOT dvd's sucked and they were a LD transfer and some of the stuff was more messed up than the OOT vhs, etc. If I'm wrong correct me please. Most ppl on here I've read bash em, so I never got them, since I already have the box set and I didn't want to pay $15 per disc for a "crappy" OOT transfer (assuming what I read was true). IDK, after readig that I figured they wouldn't be any better than my original VHS. I admit I never watched em (the GOUT), I only know what I read on here. I'd rather have the true OOT on DVD but from what I've read lucas hacked the releases last sept (plz fill me in if I'm incorrect), so I guess I figured I'd try this.

The SEs and OOT aren't on the same discs, they're on separate discs.

The DVDs are from the digital masters that were created for the Definitive Collection and "Faces" LDs from the 1990s. To my eyes, the DVDs look better than the LDs (sharper, clearer, less video noise) but some others say the difference is negligible.

But, I feel safe in saying that they're definitely a HUGE improvement over the VHS. The resolution of the DVDs has to be at least double that of the letterboxed VHS releases (plus the SW DVD has the original crawl, which the LD and VHS don't).

I'm not sure what you mean about them being "more messed up" than the OOT VHS.
I do know that the 1995 "Faces" VHS releases were the last (and probably best) of the VHS releases.

I think the OOT DVDs are the best releases of the OOT so far, that is until the X0 project and/or someone here finishes their '04/GOUT hybrid DVDs.

The current status -

Star Wars - done, it has all 5 existing sound mixes, but I have realised 2 things - the special edition changed the sky behind 3PO when he's aruing with R2 in the desert, so I have to change it back, and the restored mono mix is available, so I'm currently working on a new version. But I have a big problem, the Tantive 4 sequence. I have "recolored it" to be more stable and have correct colors, the uncompressed AVI looks perfect, but the resulting m2v has much worse colors. I plan to put some screenshots to the technical forum.

Sorry! I try to avoid using "ANH" when I can, but with the 6 films, it can get confusing.

Do you really think it's worth the trouble to change the sky behind 3PO? Is there that much of a difference?

Anybody ever notice the audio drop-out on ROTJ?

Yeah! So has anyone noticed the L-channel audio drop-out at 1:52:30 on the GOUT ROTJ DVD??

Personally, I always thought he said, "I'll take good care of her, so she won't get a scratch." As Mielr pointed out, though, he probably got a little tongue tied.

Like, "she sells sea shells by the seashore".

It's actually during the duel, just as Luke goes nuts and is about to finish off Vader (1:52:30). The sound on the left channel cuts off for a second. It's more obvious when you listen on headphones.

Speaking of audio oddities in ROTJ, on my old SE VHS (and I think on one of my DVDs too) Lando says "she" when assuring Han that the Falcon will be fine. "she-she won't get a scratch."

Ships are very often referred to as "she". But is does sound like he's stuttering a bit.

Someone on the Home Theater forum just mentioned that he noticed a left-channel audio drop-out at 1:52:30 on the GOUT Jedi DVD (during the duel scene).

It's also on the "face" LD in the exact same spot.

I haven't checked the DC LD yet.

I just thought it was odd that after all these years, I wasn't aware of anyone mentioning it until now.

EDIT: I checked the "face" VHS tape, and the drop-out is there too. Definitely on the master.

LOL!

Well, he DID change Darth Vader's original "bring my shuttle" dialogue in ESB......

IMPORTANT BEHIND THE SCENES INFO ON THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY FROM LONDON FILM AND COMIC CON-SEP '07

You're right, GWTW wasn't shot in widescreen, it was shot in academy ratio like every other film in 1939.
Widescreen films did exist in the 1930s, but very few films were shot that way back then.
Widescreen Museum LINK

I did a little research, and VistaVision was invented by Paramount in 1954.
VistaVision LINK
So, there's no possible way that a VistaVision camera was used on the set of GWTW. Aside from the fact that VistaVision was invented 15 years after GWTW was released, VistaVision cameras used single-strip negatives. Gone With The Wind was shot with 3-strip Technicolor cameras, which were the size of large kitchen appliances and were extremely difficult to maneuver.
See photo HERE.

I know that the VistaVision cameras were used to shoot many classic films, but Gone With The Wind was not one of them.

Very interesting- thanks! I hope Mr. Kurtz decides to publish a book of his SW photos.

CHRISTOPHER MALCOLM (ZEV-EMPIRE)

A really nice guy, at his first convention, the actor revealed that the replacement VISTAVISION camera used for Snowspeeder cockpit filming had previously been used on GONE WITH THE WIND- such was the film’s status that people on set would often come by just to touch the legendary camera that had filmed the movie!!
Did they a use a VistaVision camera on Gone With the Wind? That doesn't sound right. I thought VistaVision was a widescreen format invented in the 1950s. I also thought all the cameras used on GWTW were the bulky 3-strip Technicolor cameras.

Don't make me barf...PLEASE! LOL!

The only reason I bought the 2-CD SE ROTJ set in the first place was to get all of the ROTJ music that wasn't included in the Anthology. There's no way I'd buy another set of CDs with Jedi Rocks (gag) on it!

The only ROTJ CDs I listen to now are CD-R compilations that I made from the Anthology CDs and the SE CDs, minus Jedi Rocks and the New-Age finale music (that way, I won't even hear them by accident).

I find it repulsive that they're using the 1983 ROTJ LP-cover art on a CD that doesn't contain the authentic 1983 soundtrack!!!!!!!

Ugh! That's awful. I'm surprised GL didn't make sure everything was kept.
