There's a lot of confusion on which one John Ratsenburger is too but I don't want to get into that argument because I can't prove which is which even though I know one is John and the other isn't. I've had virtual fights about that before and lost since I can't prove it.

He's the one who goes up to Leia and says "the shield doors must be closed", right?

But the real difference between TFN and OT is that divergent opinions are at least tolerated over here, and even given a chance to be heard even if not agreed with. Sure, you'll find vehemently hostile purists here, but not nearly as many as there are vehemently hostile "gushers" over there. I was at TFN for over a year, and basically any contribution I attempted to make to any SW discussion was immediately shouted down by a multitude of voices. Not discredited or rebutted or argued with; simply shouted down and subsequently ignored.

The EXACT same thing happened to me over there. I always felt like I was being ganged up on if I expressed a dislike with anything Lucas did. Even worse, the attacks against me were extremely juvenile. There's no point in even trying to defend yourself when you're up against that.

This site exists partly because of some of the great things Lucas was responsible for, and also exists partly because of the bad choices Lucas has made. So by nature this site and the people who enjoy posting here have a dual-sided attitude towards Lucas.

"Hate to say it, but we're slowly being snuffed out..."

This site has been attracting a lot of new blood lately, and that's fine, but a lot of them have been coming here from other sites (like TFN, I'm sure) for Adywan's SW Revisited and then leaving after they get what they want. It does seem like we've lost a lot of the regulars here, though.

I uploaded the original finale from ROTJ (from the GOUT) to YouTube, and some of the comments I've been getting there are downright scary. It's amazing how many people say things like "you mean THIS is the original ending?", "I've never heard this music before, is this from the original version of the movie?" It just drives home the idea that we've got to keep the OT alive- those of us who remember it. It reminds me of the "book people" from Fahrenheit 451.

"Not at TFN, that's for sure; you practically have to worship Lucas' excrament to be accepted over there..."

I figured that out pretty quickly when I was (briefly) a poster there, several years ago. It was an infuriating experience.

Saga Book Boxset - The 6 episodes in one box !!!
Time

Yeah, judging by the prices of some of the company's other books, it will be at least $300.

The thing is, if it didn't have any PT content or SE shots (which we know it will since Georgie boy hand-picked the photos), I might consider buying it, or asking for it as a Birthday or Christmas present. But, there's no way I'm going to spend that much money for a set of books 1/3 of which will contain pictures of Hayden Christiansen (and there will probably be pics of him as 'Anakin-ghost' in the ROTJ book too- YUCK!)

Too bad. :-(

Help Wanted: A question about the ROTJ trailers on the Definitive Collection LD set...

auximenies said: Nope. The EditDroid docs come from Japanese laser discs, and AFAIK have burned in subs. I think the ones on the Rowman discs are sourced from VHS. I know there is a bit of confusion because Rowman designed his menus to complement the EditDroid OT release, but that was before the official EditDroid bonus discs became known.

Yeah, it is kind of confusing- very confusing, actually. LOL!

Thanks! :-)

A question about the noise reduction on the Pioneer cld-d703/704
Time

I've got a Pioneer cld-d703 (same as the 704 only without the ac3).

Usually when I copy an LD onto a DVD, I use the default noise reduction position, which is at the halfway mark.

I'm wondering, should I be turning it all the way down instead? Are there any benefits to leaving it at the halfway mark?

Also, I assume I should I should use an S-video (instead of a composite) cable since the comb filter is probably better in my newer Sony DVD-recorder (RDR-GX7).... is that a correct assumption?

thanks- :-)

Info: EXCITING news - lost "METROPOLIS" scenes FOUND!!!!!!!!!

these are pictures and not film.

The kino restoration is the longest known cut to still exist.

.......until now. Those pictures have not been seen since 1926 because the footage was lost. Those stills come directly from the lost footage.

Having though back on the Moroder fan-edit someone wanted to do with using Kino's visuals to sync the soundtrack to, I sorta wonder how much more interesting it could be to try syncing it up to the lost footage too? That would be bitchin' if attempted!

I prefer the Moroder soundtrack over all others, too. It's the first version of the movie I ever saw (my Mom took me into NYC to see it in 1984). So, I'd like to see the Moroder soundtrack applied to this new restored version as well.

I can't believe we're talking about this! I never thought this would happen. :-)

reave, thanks for the info about the blu-ray/DVD release. I'm so thrilled the scenes will be included.

Evidently, about 23 minutes of footage has been discovered. There is still one scene missing (a monk in the cathedral), but maybe that scene can be filled in with stills or something.

Anyhow, here's a link to some more photos of the newly discovered footage:
