I've never heard anything like that.

I love the lso
I love the work of John Williams.
More than that admittedly not as epic and spectacular as the original trilogy scores there were some good pieces of music here and there.
I liked duel of the fates, across the stars, and battle of the heroes.
I also love JW and the LSO. I agree that there were some good bits of music in the prequels- I liked Anakin's theme, and Duel Of The Fates is OK. There just weren't as many stand-out themes as in the OT, Return Of The Jedi being my favorite score of the OT.
I haven't really collected many SW items made post-1997 because of all the SE and Prequel inclusion which feels like it's being force-fed (HA!......sorry.)
Acutally, it's saved me a lot of money. I didn't buy the 'vault' book when I saw all the Prequel stuff in it, and there was a huge book that came out about 10 years ago (what was it called?) I think it came with a giant action figure in the box. It was supposed to be the 'ultimate' star wars reference book, and when I saw pics from TPM in it, I passed on that too.
Best case scenario (for me):
(HARP MUSIC PLAYS....)
Lucas finally realizes that he's gone to the well once too often and he will need to release the OOT to get some additional $$$ from the more discerning, old-school fans.
He will magically discover a useable print of each OOT film, and a 2k or 4k scan will be done. No major cleanup will be done, perhaps just some color correction and minor scratch removal. The soundtracks will be straight of the prints- no remastering or major cleanup done on those either.
He will release the SEs (of course) on blu-ray, each film will be a 2-disc set. Disc 1 will be the SE of each film, disc 2 of each film will be the OT version.
They'll be extras included, probably split between disc 1 and disc 2. Probably the same stuff that was on the bonus disc of the '04 DVD set. As an extra bonus, deleted scenes from all 3 films will be included, as well as some of the trailers that were not included in the DVD set.
Personally, that's all I want, and I probably won't even get that. But I will always hold out hope.

Even the music is awful.
Will be the first soundtrack of star wars i never will buy.
Falsely advertised on sony classical as Being by John Williams.
Do you own the prequel soundtracks, Sky? I didn't even buy those, except for the ROTS one, which I only bought because of the music video DVD that came with it.

Yup, that's why conservative talk-radio is so successful, and liberal talk-radio is failing miserably.
And who actually listens to the radio?
Tens of millions of conservatives, for starters. Which is why Rush Limbaugh gets paid 400 million dollars a year now.
Janskeet said:I thought you guys were smart? I go into the politics thread and I see all this republican biased talk and people labeling Democrats as socialists/communists?
I was thinking the exact opposite- there seem to be a lot of conservatives here, so it follows that there must be a lot of smart people here! (which I already knew, of course. Star Wars fans are naturally smart).
;-)
For the record, I'm as disappointed about what's happened to the Republican party as anyone. I'm voting for John McCain, but he was not my #1 choice for nominee.

"Sorry, no, these studies were done by media analysts. Your average american of the conservative persuasion is much more interested in the details of issues and the news than the other side for whatever reason. I'm convinced that's why Fox News made so much money and why the other news networks tried to have programming that would attract conservatives (at least for a while)."

Actually, I wasn't talking about aesthetic changes like those made to Cloud City. I was referring to matte lines and such.
By your logic anyone that DOESN'T wish for films to be altered decades after their release is a fanboy. I wouldn't want Wizard of Oz updated; or Lawrence of Arabia (CGI camels!! Its "better"!!); or Metropolis. Or Star Wars.
Thanks, Zombie, that's the point I was trying to make but you did it much more concisely.
Well, I can only speak for myself, but I'm not a "fanboy". I am a lover of classic films (many other than just the Star Wars OT) and I believe they should be preserved in their original form for our enjoyment and for future generations. I was more excited about the discovery of 23 minues of lost footage from "Metropolis" than I have been about anything "Star Wars" in the past 20 years.
I don't care WHAT George Lucas does, as long as the OT is properly restored and presented.
You won't see me standing on the sidewalk dressed as a clone trooper next week, nor would you have seen me standing in front of a theater dressed as boba fett in 1983.
To me, it's always just been about the movies, not the personalities involved. I've never invested enough emotion in George Lucas to either love him or hate him.
"Fanboys"? No, "fanboys" are people with their lips krazy-glued to Lucas' ass. In other words, people who can't think for themselves and frequent TF.N.

why was this item even mentioned here?
Out of morbid curiosity, maybe? ;-)
The reason that the Willitts Designs' 70mm film cels were so interesting to me in the '90s were because they were pieces of actual film prints and you could scan them, print them, etc. and there were no altered SE scenes in them to make my stomach turn. They were $25 a piece retail ( and usually far less on eBay) and you could pick whatever images you wanted and you weren't forced to buy a whole set with Hayden Christiansen in them.
These aren't pieces of film, they're overpriced picture books, and I can think of a lot of better ways to "invest" $4,000 !!!!! Frankly, they smack more of George Lucas' greed and arrogance than of pride in his work.
George Lucas will finally do "something right" again when he ceases his pathological mission to bury the OOT.
As far as the color reference goes (I assume you're referring to the OT?) the OT books would be made from Special Edition prints, so I doubt if the color would be useful for any OOT preservations since I assume they don't represent the original theatrical colors.

This is probably why nobody really took the "Last chance to own the original version of Star Wars" ads seriously.
I took it seriously- especially after the SEs came out in '97!
LEIA: Only you could be so bold. The
Imperial Senate will not sit still for this, when they hear you've attacked
a diplomatic...
VADER: You weren't on any mercy mission this time.......Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by Rebel spies.
I want to know what happened to the plans they sent you.
LEIA: I don't know what you're talking about. I'm a member of the
Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan...HAN: (yelling) Yahoo!
And yet, James Earl Jones, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford were still somehow able to deliver those lines convincingly (cringe-free). Hmmmmmm...........
So, based on that, I've determined that the acting in the Prequels sucked slightly more than the dialogue. ;-)
It's funny, I was just thinking about this the other day.
We couldn't get enough people to commit to it. There were a few people here who were really gung ho on the idea, but in the end, so few people were interested that we decided not to do it. The only way it would have had any impact would have been if there were a large number of discs sent in.
I paid $300 for a deluxe, limited-edition copy of Mick Rock's book of Queen photographs (it originally sold for $600 I think) and it was signed by Mick Rock, Roger Taylor and Brian May. It also came with a bonus 8"x10" photo of Freddie Mercury signed by Mick Rock. I sold it to someone in Italy for $900.
Four THOUSAND dollars for a bunch of photos of Hayden Christiansen?!
Oh yeah, these things will be FLYING off the shelves at that price! ROFLMAO!!!!!!! :-D

So a future dialect (even though, as C3PX stated it is set a long time ago and NOT in the future) means no British accents then, just your American one? Wow, talk about a superiority complex.
I'm not sure, but I think Negative1 is British.
Well said, Puggo.
Yeah, I remember that quote, and I cannot believe that he actually thinks we're stupid enough to believe that prior to the prequels, he wasn't financially able to fund the making of his own films!?
Puhleeeeeeeeze!!!!!!!!!

On a somewhat related note, I just got around to watching all three of those interviews for the very first time last night. But the thing that struck me even more than what GL says in the interviews is the realization that this was the "one last time" vhs release and it only took, what, two measly years for them to cave and put it out on dvd (anamorphic or not) after they'd released the SE in 04?
Where did you find the whole interview, and what are the two others that you speak of? Oh and we all know Lucas is full of shit. I'd be willing to bet, Lucas said after finishing Last Crusade that he wouldn't be making anymore Indy films, and I'd be willing to bet in a few years he gets bored and decides to make episodes 7, 8, and 9. I'm looking forward to seeing him try to talk his way out of that one. After all, on various occasions he has said on national televison and in major publicity that he would not be making anymore star wars movies (or in his case, lack of).
They were included on the "faces" (aka- "one last time") VHS tapes and laserdiscs released in 1995. The interview was split up into 3 parts and one part was put on each of the 3 films.
The "you're lucky you don't taste very good" line was also released on video. The "hologram" VHS set has it.
There's a major glitch on my copies of the KCCI version, right at the end of Chewie's flashback scene (do you know the one I mean?) and it seems like this new version (based on the youtube clip) has some bad edits at the commercial breaks. If you could combine the best footage of the two, you'd have a really great, near-perfect copy.
Negative1, no offense, but why would you buy a 35mm print of a film, then go to all the trouble and expense of transferring/restoring it, when you think it's merely "average"?
Do you really think The Empire Strikes Back is an average film?

The change that irks me the most is the change from a classic: (from Empire)
Luke: (after R2 got spat out by Dagobah monster) You're lucky you don't taste too good.
to the standard and less fun:
Luke: (after R2 got spat out by Dagobah monster) You're lucky you got out of there.
That irked me more than Jabba in ANH or Greedo getting the first shot.
That's not a Special Edition change, though. Both of those versions existed pre-SE.
