What was the "fatal flaw" of the Prequels if you think they sucked? (aka. Let's take a break from hating on the blu-rays)
Time

I just watched a few minutes of AOTC on Spike (I couldn't take any more than that). it's amazing to me that even though I saw the film in the theater, I had no memory of the scenes I saw on TV.

The CGI looks even worse on TV- the characters don't look like they're part of their environment. They LOOK like they're standing in front of a green-screen with CG cartoon creatures surrounding them. That's one of many fatal flaws.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

This is all very different than what happened for the DVD release in '04. Aside from this forum, Home Theater Forum, and some other sci-fi and movie related forums, there really was no mention of the addition of Hayden to ROTJ (which was a MAJOR alteration), the new (worse) Jabba in ANH, etc.

Now, the blu-ray alterations are being mentioned on countless entertainment sites, blogs, the radio station I was casually listening to a while ago, and there's still 2 weeks 'till these things are released.

There's been a sea change of some sort. Who knows if anything good will come of it, but something has changed.

Could someone be so kind as read over my update on this and see if I have made any mistakes?

Could you possibly mention the Facebook page, and provide a link somewhere?

I hope these leaked changes do lead to a significant loss of sales.  Because at the moment, all I can think of is that tweet Katie Lucas put out:  Haters are gonna hate, but, in the end, they're still going to buy it.  That's the (up until now extremely accurate) impression they have of us..

THAT quote (which has a "let them eat cake" feel to it), more than anything, should be enough to make anyone who's still on-the-fence about this release to say "HELL NO!"

AT LEAST wait a few months to buy it (if you must), or even better- get it used from ebay!

I'm not sure if I posted this, but I'm working with someone to get the visual comparisons started:

Feel free to spread them around, this will be updated and kept around. After the Blus come out officially, I will be integrating them into the Complete Comparisons.

I'll put it up on the Facebook page.

Daren Dochterman answered the poll and liked the Page. Nice!

That's great!

We're up to 101! :-)

Another idea to make the facebook page interactive is to ask people to modify SW quotes to fit the topic. One was recently posted in the BR thread:

SithTrooper wrote: "I'm altering the films. Pray I don't alter them any further." - Now I know exactly how Lando felt.

People like to riff.

You mean like:

"These are not the movies we're looking for. Move along. Move along."
"Look, Sir. Alterations."
"The Original Versions are not on the Main BluRays" (okay, that's weak)

I'm not sure what I should do about that- should I just ask if people want to play a game and get them started off with one or two of those?

On a related note, I read over at the HTF that the Moroder cut of Metropolis is going to get a DVD and Blu release. Hell has a snow day!

That really surprises me. Better late than never, I guess...?

I wonder if there will be much interest in that since the version with all the lost Argentinian footage was released.

BTW, there are over 50 "likes" on the Facebook page. I know a lot of people here don't have an account, but for those who do and haven't "Liked" the page yet- please do. And please, everyone forward the link to any friends who may be interested. Thanks!

Press release from Lionsgate re: 10/25 DVD release of "The People vs George Lucas":

"With all the recent uproar over the news of further changes to the original films in this new set, fans will feel in good company as the film devotes an entire section to the changes made to the 1997 re-releases, making this the perfect compliment to the Blu-ray Discs. But the film isn't all about the changes – it also features the fans and media expressing their love and admiration of him as well."

Do we know if netflix is going to have the deleted scenes disc available?

I was wondering the same thing- I actually toyed with the idea of buying the set just for the deleted scenes disc, maybe watching the OT for a laugh/cry then breaking up the rest of the set and selling it on ebay.

But now after what I've heard, I don't even want to see what's been done to the OT. I'll see if Netflix has the deleted scenes disc to rent, or I'll see if someone sells the disc on ebay.

I've been trying to keep on top of the Facebook page as best I can, adding video clips and pics as they leak (thanks to everyone that has joined!)

But, remember that anyone here can post videos, pics, etc on the page, so if there's something you think would add something to the page, please post it as it will be more efficient than going through me, OR if there's a site that you think would be a good place to promote the Facebook page, please mention the name or link to it. That would be a great help! :-)

BTW- thanks to whoever added the extra category on the poll (if it was someone here...LOL).

The whole scene with the emperor/Luke/Vader was very strong as it was BECAUSE Vader was silent.  Just the way he was standing there looking at what was happening was extremely powerful - there was more expression in his silent sadness than by adding juvenile dialogue.  George simply doesn't understand the less-is-more concept; he believes that more is always better. Notice that he has never removed anything from his movies, he always adds more and more doo-dads.

He removed Luke's wink! :-(

Apparently, it's ok for Ewoks to wink...

Maybe a side project could be a revival of "Just say Noooooooooo!" badges, pins and stickers.

That's a good one. ;-P "Just say Nooooooooooo to the Blu-Rays!"

I wonder if they recycled that "no" from somewhere else, of if they got JEJ to come in and record it. LOL. TOTALLY asinine.

BTW, thanks althor1138 and Gaffer, for joining.

none, please let me know which designs for bumper stickers, etc. you consider finished versions, so I can start posting them on the Facebook pg.
Thanks!

Mielr, (summons the spirit of Lando) you've gotta give people more time... to join a site. Was the weekend, plus some bad weather on one coast, which could mean part of your audience never saw the page. ...and you are dealing with a prickly bunch round here who don't use many social networking sites.

That's true, except that a bunch of people managed to post on this site, but opted (for whatever reasons) not to join the Facebook page.

I'm not a fan of Facebook either, but frankly, if you want to reach the maximum number of people, Facebook is probably the best route. No one expressed any qualms with Facebook when the suggestion was made. Those who have a problem with it maybe should have spoken up then, rather than after the page was already up.

I put the page back up if anyone is interested.

Also seeing as there are further sound and vision tweaks people buying the 2011 set aren't getting the 2004SE either (which may be a step in the right direction for some people but..) it highlights just how screwy the tag line "Own Every Moment" is.

LOL- I noticed that "own every moment" tag line in the Best Buy flyer this week.

So, "own every moment" EXCEPT......Han shooting first, a ronto not blocking an entire scene, Lapti Nek, Sebastian Shaw being a force ghost, Vader saying "bring my shuttle", etc., etc.......all those moments. ;-)
