Help me get BANNED on SW.COM!!!

I still think it would be fun though.....but I see how it could be bad for the board.....if I can't get banned, could I at least kick Lucas in the nuts somehow???

I think you're directing your anger towards the wrong target. I understand exactly how you feel, but why don't you do something more constructive and write a kick-ass, scathing "open-letter" to George Lucas. Send it to Lucasfilm, and to all of the press contacts in the "addresses and contacts" thread in this forum. You might also want to send it to some of the Sci-Fi magazines, they may actually print it. Getting banned from SW.com isn't going to accomplish anything.

There actually is one CGI effect in the original ROTJ, in the Rebel briefing scene. I guess one could see that as a bad omen and the beginning of "the end" for GL's film career.

Thankfully, I was surprised to see that "Superman Returns" didn't overuse CGI. Sure it had it in there, but there were also plenty of real sets there too.

That's good to hear- I'm looking forward to seeing that movie.

Watched ROTS on HBO, UGGGH!
Time
Since I saw AOTC, I thought they were missing out on some interesting plot elements in ROTS by not having Obi-Wan secretly in love with Padme (without Ben expressing his feelings for her, though. I don't think he would have done that to Anakin or to Padme). I think a kind of "love triangle" like that would have deepened the drama, especially when Ben essentially watched her die in ROTS (and watched the torment she went through with Anakin), and would have given Anakin another motive to want to fight Ben, if he sensed his Ben's feelings for Padme. They sort of barely hinted at something like that- but it really never came to fruition.

But even something like that may not have saved the movie- but it would have made it a tad deeper and more entertaining, anyway.

End of SE ROTJ...
Time
The only change to the end of ROTJ that I don't mind is the brief shot of Luke hugging Wedge, but other than that, I HATE all the changes, and I refuse to watch the DVD. I detest the new CGI celebration scenes, the new song, the re-editing that takes out Luke's "wink" (or at least it seems like that's what they were trying to do) and the addition of Hayden.

BTW-why is Hayden young, when Ben is old? What, you mean they didn't have any un-used footage of Alec from "the bridge on the river Kwai" that they could use? [/sarcasm]

Yeah, the 2004 Jabba is GREEN!? Funny, I don't remember that Jabba was GREEN in ROTJ! LOL

I don't get it- weren't we always told that the star wars movies were the story of Luke Skywalker, and how he eventually "saves" his father? Is GL really trying to make us believe that the entire story is actually about Anakin/Darth? I don't care- Luke has been and always will be my favorite character in the films.

No wonder Mark Hamill is ticked with him.

I agree with you 100%, JediFlyer06.

Computers and computer effects are probably the worst thing that's ever happened to movies. Instead of just using them to enhance new films or restore older films (like removing matte lines, scratches, visible strings, etc.), they're being over-used by lazy film-makers and we're getting a whole slew of crap films because of it. Thank goodness CGI wasn't available to GL in the 1970's and 1980's. I much prefer the quirky, creative solutions that the effects people/artists had to come up with for the OOT. They were truly inspired, and GL has totally disrespected them and their hard work.

I wasn't disappointed in the ROTJ score at all when I first heard it. For me, ROTJ is probably my favorite score of the OT (or at least a close tie to SW), it's the one I find myself listening to the most, largely due to the "luke and leia" theme, "parade of the ewoks", "brother and sister", "dark side beckons", and "light of the force" which is probably the best rendition of the force theme in the OT.

BTW- did anyone buy the Sony re-releases of the soundtracks (with the photoshop covers?) I bought the RCA versions in 1997, and I was wondering if there was any difference in the sound. The RCA CDs were supposed to be "remastered" so I was skeptical when the Sony ones came out a few years ago, supposedly "remastered" again.

I still prefer the CD boxed-set anthology for the ROTJ tracks, because it contains "lapti nek" and the original ewok song.

I liked the bonus DVD as well, but there were a fews parts that I hated. Such as the Love Theme with all the shots from AOTC. You pretty much just hear music and then a little over half way through the music (maybe about 3 minutes in) during a softer cue of the music you hear Anakin shout out "Padme!" It scared the crap out of me, and I hated it. You are so wrapped up in just watching the music video and listening to the notes and then have someone yell at you... no sir, I don't like it.

I agree, they should have left the dialogue out of it.

So, Mark and George aren't freinds anymore, eh? Not that I can blame him (Mark). I don't like George either. During the Achivement award thing Harrison was the only cast member sitting with George. Apparently Carrie and Mark were like, "Hell no."

I get the feeling that Mark is a bit resentful of some things George has done lately. I don't think he was all that thrilled with the Special Editions. I recently saw his film "comic book- the movie" and he made some comments on the commentary track that also led me to believe he was pissed with Lucasfilm. He seemed OK at the AFI awards, though. I think the reason Harrison Ford was the only cast member sitting with George is because he's also an AFI recipient.

Carrie is still very good friends with George. She's interviewed him a number of times and I think she and her daughter visit him quite a bit. It just surprised me that she did the commentary on the DVDs- she's never been that willing to talk about Star Wars, and it seems like Mark was always the biggest "fan" of the films. I guess it's Carrie's strong friendship with George that made it possible for him to talk her into doing the commentaries.

OT.com = TFN?
Time
I like these forums much more than TFN. The people here (for the most part) are much more friendly, and mature. I also feel that I'm among more like-minded people here (people who generally prefer the OT to the PT, and prefer the OOT to the SE). But even those here who like the PT and the SE, are very polite and respectful.

Really?! That's interesting. You can really hear it in the music, though. It sounds like he was uninspired.

It didn't. Ben's Theme became "The Force" theme.

Right- I saw an interview with John Williams many years ago, and he said that the main "star wars" theme is actually "Luke's theme" (note how it's gently played as we first see Luke when he emerges to help his uncle pick out droids).

Of all the PT films, TPM probably has the best score. However, the only PT soundtrack CD I own is for ROTS, because of the really cool bonus DVD that came with it. I've always wanted a set of "music videos" for some of my favorite SW themes- and was thrilled that they finally put one together (albeit, with shots from the SE...grrrr!) The bonus-DVD is the ONLY reason I bought it, though.

I'm not sure if this is truth or not but I heard that Mark and Harrison wanted too much money or something along those lines. It's a theory, it's probably wrong.

Did anyone read that interview that Carrie did with George Lucas for Sound And Vision magazine a couple of years ago? George made a comment, something about complaining that Star Wars ruined your life, or something, then she said something like "that's Mark's job". It gave me the feeling that maybe GL and Mark weren't on the best of terms anymore. Carrie and GL have been very buddy-buddy for some time now.

Oh, OK. I only watched them once, just to hear the commentaries.

What happens if you watch the SE DVDs on a widescreen TV? Do the subtitles still show up in the black area? (I just have a 4:3 TV). I guess what I'm asking is, are the subtitles "fixed" on the SE DVDs (like on the laserdiscs) or do they change position based on what kind of TV you watch them on?

Thanks for that Kurtz interview- it's very interesting. I especially like what he says on the last page of the interview about a director going back and changing a film once it's finished.

I've read so many things about how GL was unhappy with Kersh as a director for ESB- it must really piss him off that everybody seems to love ESB the most (fans AND cast).

LOL Where did Mark say that?

Okay.....

You asked if we would use SE footage in the project. I said we weren't because that wasn't the intention of this project. It has nothing to do with legality. I don't know how to be any clearer than that.

I understood you, I was just a bit puzzled by your tone.

I remember seeing ROTJ in the movie theater on opening day in 1983 (I think I saw it 2 more times that summer) and being so moved by Luke and Leia's theme, and the church-like music during Luke and Vader's duel (right after Vader tricks Luke into coming out of hiding by threatening Leia). I remember buying the LP of the soundtrack and being so disappointed that that duel piece wasn't on it. I was thrilled when the Star Wars Anthology CD-boxed set came out, and I was FINALLY able to listen to that piece on CD.

I guess I wasn't the only one, because Ben Burtt mentioned (in the DVD commentary, I think) how so many people mentioned that particular piece of music to him, and asked where they could get it.

I agree, I think Williams' music went downhill on the PT. There were really no memorable themes, IMO, except for maybe Anakin's theme in TPM. I have to disagree with you about ROTJ, though. I thought the music was just as brilliant in that film as in the first two.

There were so many fantastic themes in the OT- Princess Leia's theme, Han Solo and the Princess, Yoda's theme, the Imperial March, and my favorite- Luke and Leia's theme.

It must be a theatrical print. But, didn't the SE DVD have burned-in subtitles?
