First Ever Laserdisc Capture
Time
" the ati's own capture stuff doesn't take external codecs. But I suppose some other software does."

Yes, chances are the drivers will work with most video capture software. I've used many different third-party drivers and capture programs with my board (a WinGo TV capture board.) I've also had several programs work with my camcorder and firewire board as well (the camcorder has pass-thru signal encoding.)

First Ever Laserdisc Capture
Time
"1) What is the best way to ensure I am capturing PCM audio from the laserdisc? Since it has an audio and a digital track, which one do I need to be capturing?"

For the digital track, you will need an LD player with digital out, and a sound card with digital in. My motherboard has that built in, and I was able to capture the PCM track using the optical input/outputs.

If you don't have this, then the regular stereo plugs will capture the analog audio.

Which movie are you ripping the soundtrack from?

"I've actually taken the vob files (not demuxed or if I got the term wrong, where the audio and video is in a single file and not seperate streams)"

You got it correct.

"and converted them to divx format. It works well in ulead's media studio pro."

Interesting. Vegas doesn't like DivX files. They'll load, but they're clunky as hell.

"When I renamed the vob files and loaded them up into MSP, there would be sync issues, and it would be tougher on the program because the files were bigger. I'm just thinking if I re-rip, demux, then split up the channels and then do my business with them, and then have to re-sync them, i'd get some problems."

First of all, I hope you are splitting the audio before converting to DivX. Secondly, splitting the audio and keeping them in sync is easy in Vegas. You load each track into its own.....uh, track, and then link the files. Whatever cut you make to one is made to all. I ran the SW THX soundtrack through a program that emulated a Pro-Logic II decoder, and created 5 audio streams. These were fed into Vegas, synced with the video, and then I created an AC3 soundtrack.

Kate Beckinsale enters Wonder Woman role race
Time
"KB: i've always loved Wonder Woman and would jump at the chance to play her!

JW: dig...

KB: I believe my track record speaks for itself and I've proven I can handle action roles with my Underworld films!

JW: word...

KB: Plus, being British, I could add a whole new dynamic to the role!

JW: dig...

KB: Seriously, I just would like to be strongly considered for the role

JW: Uh huh..."

Why does this remind me of the Chappelle Show episode where they have the "Wrap It Up" box to make people hurry.

'Backstroke of the West' with retail DVD quality : FINISHED & RELEASED
Time
" Well, you do have one ROTS DVD don't you? "
----------
"Lol, your thoughts betray you!
I once bought a dvd and when I came home I found I already had it on the shelf..."

LOL....hey, I admit it, I downloaded the leaked xvid. But I DID see it in the theater as well, and DID intend to buy the commercial release (as I have Eps. I and II.) I just thought I already had.

(That being said, I never saw AOTC in the theater. Like all other films since TPM, I just waited for the DVD.)

Problem with slow motion in Vegas

Yes, the more disk space, the better, because Windows uses hard disk space as extended memory. It looks like you have two hard drives, so it would benefit you to capture video to the second, non-system drive (the one you don't boot to.) This way, when Windows writes to its own system files, the reading/writing doesn't interfere with the writing of the video capture files - which has to be done in real time.
