The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!
Time
You first.

"If it's such a high profile release, why is it being referred to as "bonus material" in the official literature?"

Agreed.

"if you love the technical shit so much, piss off and watch the 2004 version..."

Actually, it's the technical stuff that keeps me from watching the '04 version.

"well he did, and he should, they are HIS after all, he has every right in the world to change them, and he also has every right in the world to not release the O-OT"

No one disputes this. And don't let the door hit you on the way out.

"LASERDISK RIPS? WHERE IS THAT MENTIONED IN THE NEWS RELEASE??"

You mean like the press release that stated Shaw was replaced with Hayden prior to the '04 DVD release? I don't recall seeing that one either.

"I'll tell you what Ward's comments MOST LIKELY mean."

Interesting. You blast other people's interpretation, and now give your own. Didn't you just say, in the very same post, that "NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE VIDEO WILL BE LIKE!"

"This is all of course unconfirmed but it is the only logical explaination."

"NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE VIDEO WILL BE LIKE!"

"We got what we wanted, and more i might add"

"NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE VIDEO WILL BE LIKE!"

"the prequels are the most worthless, cashwhore movies ever made"

ROTFLMAO! Great adjectives there.

BTW, here's a few more from Ralph McQuarrie in the Annotated Screenplays:

"I had a lot more equipment on [Luke] at first, very tailored-looking piping and little gadgets sewn into his costume. But I got the impression that George wanted all the costumes to be a lot more simple. He didn't want the costumes to be the center of attention."

"The sandcrawler waj just said to be an enourmous iron-tracked vehicle, and I put a big trapdoor on the front because it's collecting junk, and I made it huge and put a little driver's compartment at the top and designed this peak that comes off the front. I added engines, exhaust pipes, and plenty of tracks. In fact, there are four different tanklike tracks on the crawler. I wanted it to look like an old warehouse on tracks."

"The DVD's colors were brightened and saturated to match the prequel DVD releases"

Interesting. I'd not considered that, but it certainly makes sense.

Ironically, there's this quote from "The Creative Impulse", which is the large hardbound book that comes with the Definitive Collection LDs:
There was, most especially, Lucas' emphasis on the idea of a used future that was meant to be experienced as reality rather than fantasy. The Star Wars future was not showroom shiny but dented and rusty, as if it had had hard use on the back roads of innumerable galaxies. Lucas told an interviewer during production in England that the Apollo capsules may have looked brand-new when they soared away, but it was clear when they returned that the interior was littered with candy wrappers, empty Tang cans, and other trash, just like the family station wagon.

"Hey. I am assuming AWK was a flamer or something. I'm not AWK."

Sorry about that, Andy. I hadn't even heard of you when your username was mentioned, and I hope you don't think I was implying you were someone else. Welcome to the boards (belatedly.)

As to color-correcting the 04 DVDs, I couldn't answer that question, because I haven't even seen the '04 DVDs, and have had no opportunity to try. I've seen plenty of screenshots, and they look pretty bad. I can't stand that all the Tantive scenes have blue walls. What's up with that?

I also read somewhere (TF.n, I believe) that the reason the lightsabers appear so dull is because one of the many video processes used to clean up the video treats very bright light as video noise, and mutes it accordingly. This is why I like frame-by-frame fixes whenever possible or feasible, versus simply applying a filter. Lowry was under a tremendous time constrant, so this kind of stuff was allowed to pass through QC.

"I will refrain from replying to this or commenting on it, and simply let it stand on its own."

Are you still acting like we're out to get you? I was done with you, but you keep throwing out these hollow accusations, and alluding to some conspiracy as if everyone else sees it as obviously as you do - yet no one else is apparently making the connection that you have. The original post is gone, but you even told people to ask why you are being told to STFU about the X0 Project, as if their lives are in danger or something.

Try this: why don't YOU explain why you are being told by EVERYONE to STFU. I'm sure we're all interested in finding out what has caused you to go over the bend about the X0. You keep calling this "THE GREAT DEBATE", yet you aren't debating these aspects at all . You keep putting up quotes of the opposing side, and don't address them at all , playing this stupid "They speak for themselves" game. You keep acting as though your attitude and actions are justified, but you've yet to justify, much less explain, your reasons.

Have you yet noticed that NO ONE on this board agrees with how you have behaved about this since the DVDs were mentioned, and NO ONE agrees with ending the X0 Project?

NO ONE?

Hell, you are so good at finding quotes - find some where people like how you are acting, or agree that the X0 Project should be stopped, or that the X0 boogymen are going to get you.

You keep acting like the X0 Project is a threat to you, as well as the people involved with it, and it's only getting more and more ridiculous. THIS is why people are telling you to STFU! I don't know what created all this paranoia (perhaps you bumped your head really hard that day), but whatever war you think you are fighting - you are the only participant, and yet you are losing.......badly.

"Anyway, ignoring the "great debate" for a moment"

What "debate"? You are arguing against no one. You are simply spamming the boards with your obvious and overnight hatred of laserdiscs, and apparently can't deal with the fact that no one's jumping on your bandwagon. Now you are making yourself into a self-styled martyr with these quotes you're reposting, all because you aren't getting your way with the X0 Project.

It's not a debate....it's a debacle. Stop whining and grow up.

"And you edit my quotes to say the opposite of what I was say"

Not entirely correct. the "Jesus christ, people, 2+4 equals four." quote is word-for-word, but Karyudo did edit the second quote.
Here it is in its entirety. "Yeah, my Classic Editions looked like shit, didn't they? Totally terrible."

All better. Oh, and let's not forget this one: "There is no such thing as an anamorphic laserdisc."

Completely unedited, and yet still completely wrong. Happy now?

"Thank you for your profanity and insults."

All of which you have brought upon yourself.

"Your continued attachment to dead formats is unfortunately what this part of Star Wars fandom is all about."

Deal. For someone who has told us to do the same, it is quite obvious that it is YOU who is having a tremendous amount of difficulty dealing with this reality. Why are you so bothered whether or not the X0 Project continues? Will LFL stop sending you checks if your little crusade fails?

"Jesus christ, people, 2+4 equals four. The sky is blue. The alphabet goes XYZ.
XYZ project."

Clever. By the way, you need to check your math.

"DVD has better quality than laserdisc."

Overall, yes. That being said, we still don't know what the final quality of the '06 DVDs will be.

"There is no such thing as an anamorphic laserdisc."

Wrong again.

"Is it really so damaging to say this that I have to be told "shut the fuck up" and kicked out of this thread?
I suppose so. And you should be questioning why."

Everyone knows why, and they are all telling you. It's not what you are saying, but how you are saying it. You are being a major prick about something that really doesn't involve you, much less hurt you (does it?) For some reason, you think you are doing everyone a favor, but you are just pissing everyone off. You are more than welcome to allude to some sort of conspiracy, but the fact remains that you are simply rubbing everyone the wrong way for no good discernible reason other than your own personal preferences. It's like you have suddenly taking this project as a personal insult, but the truth of the matter is, we (and I think it's safe to say I speak for most of the people here) could care less how offended you are by this project. DanielB behaved exactly like this, and we got rid of him.

This project will continue, despite your perceptions (and misperceptions) about laserdisc. If you can't handle that, I don't know what to tell you, but having your little tantrums in this thread isn't going to rid you of your demons.

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM
Time
"As far as complaints about 5.0 sound, was that capability even available when these films were released, or would making them 5.0 technically be tampering with the original sound mixes to artificially retrofit the old movies with a newer technology? Sort of like colorizing a b&w white movie? I don't know - just curious if anyone else knows."

There was a 6-track master for the 70mm version.
