Best IVTC filter/program & lossless compression codec??
Time
"MeBeJedi, THANKS a ton!!"

Not a problem. Didn't want you to do a whole lot of unnecessary work for nothing.

"Has anyone tried MSU codec for lossless compression? This would allow me to easily store the raw footage on a 100 gig drive. That would be amazing!!"

I've not tried MSU, but Huffy works great, and every program I've used recognizes it flawlessly. I had no qualms trying it based on Laserman's tried and true experience, and it's not let me down. I guess I could try MSU to see what the relative file sizes are.

[EDIT] Saw this on the MSU website...
Known problems:

* Sometimes doesn't install properly on Windows'98 (some problems in the .inf).
* Sometimes codec avalable from VirtualDub, but unavalable in Adobe Premiere 6.5. If you know how to solve it, please mail us! You won't be forgiven.

Hmmmm, I don't think I'm got to use this for my master files. Besides, Huffy is just behind it in both tests, so I'm content.

Oh, my card is a Bt878-chip based board. and I'm using a third-party Universal WDM Video Capture driver. The Hauppage drivers wouldn't allow for 720x480 capture on their own board - go figure.

As for capture, I'm using the capture software that comes with the stand-alone MainConcept encoder. I can consistently get captures with no dropped frames with this software better than any of the others I've used. The settings themselves are consistent across all the capture programs.

Two things to say. First of all, I'm dropping the other thread. It's just not working out well, and I'm not making enough progress to necesitate its use, so here's the last update.

Update: Okay, Just wanted to give some examples of what I am working on. Here's a 9 Mb segment comparing before and after. Te opening sequence has a slight glitch, see if you can find it. The remaining segments have the most speckles/glitches that I've come across so far, so I chose those to demonstrate what can be done with Combustion. (one of my corrected sequences has a missing frame which I wasn't aware of until now - guess I'll have to go back and fix it.) Be sure to watch it in fullscreen, as most of the speckles are actually kind of small. It may seem like overkill to fix them, but they would really show up in an anamorphic transfer. Plus, I want a pristine master for future projects (in case my LD player bites the dust.)

Secondly, I have some comparison screen caps of fixed frames. Keep in mind that these are all single-frame errors, either at the beginning or end of a sequence, and all but two would be very difficult to see during normal viewing. I just wanted to show some of the inherent glitches of the LD transfer, as well as how effective Combustion 3 can be at fixing them.
