Nice touch. I'd like to see that clip, to see if you were able to retain the motion blur. (Just a minor quibble. If I recall correctly, that's a very fast passing scene to begin with, so it may not matter.)

That's kinda what I figured. At the very least, you and ADM should swap copies, and compare notes. It would be interesting to see what the two of you come up with together.

What source did you use for the Alderaan shot?

That's the Director's Cut, although I know of at least one time that I've seen that version on TV. The current DVD collection contains both versions.

It also includes Ripley talking about her child, and Newt's family coming across a face-hugger.

Every single review I read for it was exceptional - at least 4 of 5 stars. (minus one or two - regardless, the buzz about this drive is stupendous.) I believe ADigitalMan has the same model and loves it. Something else that sealed the deal for me was finding firmware updates that hard-code the DVD-ROM bit-setting for better compatibility with older DVD players. It was a cinch to apply. (It also hard-coded the "no region" setting by turning off the internal counters.)

Mind you, I've not yet burned a DL DVD yet, but I intend to buy DL media next month, and then I'll let you know how it turns out.

I've been getting all my Maxtors at Costco at incredible prices. The one exception was my 200, which I got at almost half-price because there was a new CompUSA opening by my house.

Most of the deals are on ATA, because everyone wants SATA. At this point, there's not enough of a performance difference to justify upgrading to higher-priced SATA systems.

I thought the visual effects were great, but the acting of the films is far superior to the acting in the miniseries. It's far more intense.

That being said, I thought the miniseries was pretty clever, and some of the changes were interesting. One thing I found a little annoying was the change in pronunciation of names, seemingly done just to be different. I would like to know which pronunciation was Herbert's choice.

Event Horizon was an excellent film in terms of characterization, building suspense, creating atmosphere, and visuals.

And then blew it when we got to the revelation that Sam Neill's character was possessed/changed/whatever. It became a completely different movie after that.
