Edit: made a mistake in what cement blobs we were talking about
Edit: made a mistake in what cement blobs we were talking about
Is there truth to the rumour that Lucasfilm had "restored" the whole film before adding the SE additions? Meaning, they recomposited all of the original effects and outputted to film, but cut them out and put them aside?
If so, I can imagine Disney releasing that. Not ideal, but your average Joe wouldn't care.
Wow, the upgrade from 1.0 is going to be night and day! I quiver with anticipation!
BTW, I apologize if you've already answered this, but what are you using as a source for color regrading this time around?
He's not talking about Pan and Scan, he's talking about cropping off the black bars on the top and bottom and making the video file a 2.35 aspect ratio video (the aspect ratio of the film) and not a 16x9 aspect ratio which is what Harmy's projects are in. He's not cropping out anything from the actual movie. Look:
Harmy:
And with the other guy was requesting:
Mike! Nice to know you're still alive and kicking! Thanks for that great little preview and awesome news about your progress. Hopefully Disney will knock on your door and make an offer.

I'm not part of the team
That's exactly what someone on the team would say. :p
I'm not part of the team, but the source for their sound is 35mm optical - although it's decent enough, it's not the best in terms of aural fidelity. I doubt there is much information in their source that warrants PCM audio. If we were talking about a digital laserdisc soundtrack transfer, that's something else!
Wow!!!! That's some sharp looking footage right there! Great cleanup job, Harmy! I can feel this 2.0 is already shaping up to be a major upgrade!
Each sound track comes from laserdiscs or other sources that were from the original releases. There are no Special Edition sound mixes included. Now there was a mono mix done that has a number of little changes to it. Listen to the 16mm print mix and see if those lines are there.
Also the interlude you're talking about is in the original release. It's in every home release prior to the special edition and in the 35 mm print that has seen the light of day.
The officers being destroyed by the asteroid was in the original release as well, but it was usually lost in home video transfers because it was cropped out to fit on a square television.
Trust us that there are people here who know every little detail about this film and if something was not faithful to the original someone would have spoken up.
But you are right about the isolated score. There's the piano prelude to the battle of Hoth present on the mix that isn't in the original mix.
When he means low fade, he's not talking about the technicolor IB process. He's talking about regular Kodak color filmstock - but with more stable color chemistry that was introduced in the early 80s.
Yeah the quality is really really good. I'm super impressed. Great work Team Negative One!
YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm surprised by how clean these prints look. Great work!

What a steaming load of Haggis! I don't know what's worse, dredging up the same crap we've heard since 1999, or yet again casting SOTS in a bad light, when this fellow has likely never seen the movie.
Jar Jar isn't racist, he's just annoying. And Tatooine is not an analog for the Middle East. (If anything, George was pinching Arrakis from Dune.) I wish I could get paid to write such pretentious twaddle. And people think the fans over analyze these movies!
Well to be fair, Dune can easily be argued as an alagory about fossil fuels and the middle east.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but based on this concept art, it seems very likely that the soccer ball droid will be Ridley's character's sidekick. We'll probably be seeing that little guy in the film, too. Wonder if he'll be a Yoda type character?
I personally think that having a new droid rather than rehashing/shoehorning R2D2 and C3PO like in the prequels is a smart idea.
Just got around to viewing these samples. They look really great, guys! Awesome work!
I think that it was fairly decent. I've basically accepted to myself that the original trilogy is STAR WARS and the rest is just filler - for lack of a better term. So I don't get angry about the prequels or the EU or Droids or the Ewok films or the TV shows or video games. My personal investment with Star Wars is making sure the original films are preserved so I don't really have the energy or inclination to bitch about a franchise that's been milked to death already. Anything anyone creates from here on out is going to feel like a fan film as far as I'm concerened, but I hope it's a good fan film.

We can pay two thousand now... plus fifteen when we reach v2.5.
17 thousand? Those guys must really be desperate.
But it'll cost you. 10 thousand all in advance.
Wow, that was really great of you to share! What a blast!
Nice!

the PAL gout slowed down to NTCS speed is the official frame count
BTW, even if the PAL GOUT isn't slowed down, the frame count is still the same ;)
Indeed! Silly me! I meant to say that audio restorations would be done at NTSC speed, but I think I was too eager to get to sleep last night.
Ah interesting. Whatever the case may be, this would be the occasion for our group to finally agree that the PAL gout slowed down to NTCS speed is the official frame count for all GOUT-based audio and video restorations for Return of the Jedi.
I'm honestly not expecting much for the first episode. Like other people mentioned, Abrams, for me, is just a so-so director. Lots of flash but little heart.
I'll definitely see it, and it can't be any worse than the prequels, but yeah. Definitely not feeling the pre-episode 1 hype here. Then again, I'm not a 15 year old kid anymore either.
If the rumors are true and Rian Johnson will be directing the next one, my interest will be really piqued then!

I could be wrong, but I think that Belbucus' audio pre-dates the decision to use the PAL GOUT and is also synced to the NTSC GOUT.
He did work on Jedi's audio? I just remember him doing the Stereo and Mono 77 mixes on S.W.
