Star Wars on The Simpsons
Time
I have to admit I didn't quite get the TPM bashing. The episode depicted TPM to be boring, because there wasn't enough action in there - well I don't know the guy who came up with that - but he definetly saw a different movie than I have.

You can criticise TPM for a lot of things, but certainly not for having too few action scenes in it. I'm hereby officially confused by the first SW reference in that Simpson episode.

Star Wars Pan Scan
Time
I second that, jimbo. Another self-contradicting thing about the SE DVD release you pointed out. If "this is about art and filmmaking", why have pan&scan? - It's everything art and filmmaking isn't about.

It's especially weird, since George Lucas plays very hard on movie theatres that can't afford the level of technology he wants them to have, so his films can be viewed with the best quality he had in mind. Anyone remember the news flash when he tried to enforce digital technology, by stating there won't be any screenings in 'below standard' cinemas?

Seems a lot of it is still just about money, imho.

Lucasarts cancels Sam'n'Max 2

Some older (and thus well hung) news snippet on this issue:

Less than a week after the LucasArts announcement that it has stopped production on "Sam & Max: Freelance Police" a Save Sam & Max Website was launched. It has just undergone a huge redesign facelift. The Site is dedicated to forcing LucasArts to reverse their decision and have Sam & Max 2 finished and released. There was a lot of frustration, anger and resentment after LucasArts shock announcement and the creator of http://www.savesamandmax.com wants to "harness that in a productive way."

"The campaign to get this game reinstated has just begun, as a petition exceeds 20,000 signatures, we have protest being organised for E3 2004. We also are encouraging everyone to mail their own piece of Sam & Max Fan Artwork to LucasArts to let them know their are Sam & Max Fans out there who would buy this game, contrary to whatever flawed research they have done. I think its also time for the gaming community to take a stand and let companies like LucasArts know we want original and funny games like Freelance Police. I also challenge Mike Nelson who cancelled the game with that pathetic two line quote, to come out and respond to the fans passionate showing of support for the game."

- SaveSamandMax.com
After just going through a resdesign, SaveSamAndMax.com continues in the tireless job of trying to convince LucasArts to un-cancel the Adventure Game. The petition has over 20,000 signatures, a protest is in the works, and I have a feeling that whoever is at LucasArts reading the PR e-mail is putting in some long hours.

Many people are wondering, what one can do to help out. Well they have a whole section devoted just to that, with ideas from protesting at E3, sending letters, to even pre-ordering the game where you can find it.

"Prepare for ground assault!" (Star Wars: Battlefront - 2004)
Time
According to republic intelligence, the seperatists managed to sabotage the efforts to get a good netcode platform for "StarWars: Battlefront", as Lucasarts announced partnership with Gamespy Industries (the guys with the shittiest netcode in the galaxy). Anyone who has played games like "C&C: Generals" or "Aliens vs. Predator 2" knows how terrible netcode can virtually kill off any form of enjoyable internet gameplay.

Let's hope that the guys from Pandemic can do some magic to the GSI netcode and actually get it to perform well enough to be used for the internet. May the force be with them.
