Oh. Yeah, I will admit, it doesn’t make that much sense to have that subtitle if you’re going to use the old 1977 logo, but the film is no longer called “Star Wars” anymore. It might’ve been better if a different Star Wars logo were used if you wanted the thumbnail to say, “Star Wars: A New Hope.”

I have stated already why I didn’t like the idea of Ben rebuilding his back, as it is an act of back treading upon his character, there is a way that the mask could be used well. There is a scenario in Episode IX that came to me where the use of the mask could be used well. After a possible fight between himself and Rey, there could be a moment where Rey tells him to take off the mask. Ben doesn’t do so, but Rey is able to talk him down to trust her. Rey approaches him slowly and takes the mask off him herself. It could be a beautiful mirroring as to when Luke took off Vader’s mask in Return of the Jedi. That’s just a scenario that came to me that could possibly happen in Episode IX.

That is a gorgeous piece of artwork. I even love how they included Clone Wars and Rebels in a realistic style. Even though you can’t get the best view, I wonder which actors’ likenesses the artist based the characters in the shows who never appeared in the movies off of.
Quite liking ‘Will Of The Force’ as a possible title for IX - a bit of a grower, that one.

The only Star Wars content on Netflix are The Clone Wars (both the movie and show), The Last Jedi and Rogue One. They’re going to be leaving Netflix very soon since Disney+ is launching this Fall.

As some of the last batch of changes to the films were for the 3D releases, technically we did get them, from a certain point of view. 😉
Disney has all but abandoned 3D releases in the U.S. Only Marvel seems to be bucking that trend though.
To me, the attempt at re-releasing the films in 3D (only Phantom Menace was re-released in 3D) and Star Wars Kinect were the two last embarrassments from Star Wars before George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney later that same year in 2012.

Since Disney+ will likely launch by the end of the year, how long do you think they’ll wait to just add all the movies now that they own the rights completely?
All of the Star Trek shows and movies were up on CBS All Access from the get-go IIRC.
I’m sure all the films will be added to Disney Plus once it launches.
Which begs the question of whether the OT will finally be from the newer 4k master or if it will be the now ancient 2004 Lowry master yet again. I don’t know if there’s been talk yet about Disney+ having any 4k content, but the Lowry’s are stuck in 1080p.

Yes.
Lowry Digital did the HD cleanup of the OT in 2004 working with 2k scans of the original camera negative (which has been conformed to the SE ever since 1997). The resulting HD master (not 2048 by 858 2k but 1920 by 817 HD, the Lowry guys actually specified this in 2004) was used for the 2004 dvd, the hd broadcasts, the 2011 bd and the 2015 digital release. It was already starting to look outdated in 2011 and it’s ridiculously outdated now.
Yeah, you’re right. If the original trilogy does get a 4K Blu-ray release this year, it will end up being the Special Editions, but it would be great if Disney and Lucasfilm remastered the trilogy and color corrected them to match their theatrical looks.

Samsung’s departure is being overblown. It’s a crowded market, and they’re better known for their tv sets anyway.
Not everyone can stream to their heart’s content even if they wanted to. Conversation I had with the phone company guy installing my new DSL said it would take an act of Congress to get high speed fiber optic cables installed in areas like where I live. Physical media isn’t going anywhere.

I really hope you’re right. I too am an old fashioned physical media kind of guy. However, I do realize that most people these days watch movies and TV shows on streaming services and on digital. Plus, many people have made a solid argument that physical media takes up space in their homes. The same can be said for video games too. Most people are now purchasing new games on their consoles than going out to a store like GameStop to buy the game. My brother now buys new releases on his PlayStation 4 these days. Personally, I have more faith in physical media than I do in digital devices, because I feel that just one accidental click can remove all my content.
Lucas announced the Blu-Ray Saga at Celebration. The OT in 4K would be a big deal for a lot of folks, regardless of whether the OUT is included.
You may be right about a 4K release, though. Now that The Last Jedi and Solo have a 4K Blu-ray release, it would make sense to do the same for I-VII and Rogue One. We’ll see what happens. On a sad note, I hate hearing about this, but it seems like physical media is coming to an end soon. I hope it doesn’t die, but part of believes it will. Samsung just announced that they’re discontinuing their Blu-ray players not long ago.
Should be a big week even for non-convention people. IX title and trailer for sure, probably a home video announcement for the original trilogy as well. Excited for IX news and nervous to see what the future holds for Star Wars on home video.
I do hope that Episode IX is the biggest thing that people will be talking about after Celebration is over.
As for an original release, I still don’t believe that Disney will release the unaltered trilogy. I understand that it’s a pipe dream that all of us fans, including myself, would love for them to do, but I guarantee that George Lucas made it explicitly clear in the contract to Bob Iger that he does not want the original versions released. To Lucas, the Special Editions are the “true” versions of his trilogy. It is another denial from George to the fans for an unaltered release.
I saw Revenge of the Sith for the first time when I was six. Anakin’s immolation scene didn’t bother me at all when I first saw it. At the time, I thought it was cool to see how Anakin became Darth Vader. I don’t think you should be cautious about showing your seven year old son The Force Awakens.

This reminds me of the special effects documentary that Mark Hamill did in promotion for The Empire Strikes Back.
I know that during Battlefront II’s canal in Orlando the crowd booed when EA announced that micro-transactions would be present within the game.
That’s because including micro-transactions in a game that the consumer has already paid for is exploitative and generally objectionable. I think booing proved to be the correct response in that situation.
I totally agree with you. I’m just bringing the story up just to illustrate that the crowd could react that at one of the panels this year. Part of me wouldn’t be surprised if the audience acted like this at Episode IX’s panel.
The con should make it very clear, (if it doesn’t already) that such behavior will not be tolerated in any way, and that violators will be treated to a very special screening of the Holiday Special. 😛
