Would anyone want a Dune remake?

Now that we live in a time when studios have a goal to turn everything into a trilogy or franchise, Dune could definitely get the budget/cast/director/treatment it deserves.

I say give it to Joss Whedon. Despite Serenity's commercial failure, it was a damn good science fiction movie, and I think Whedon has a grasp on the weirdness required to make Dune both faithful to the novel and a nice homage to Lynch's version.

Either him or Stephen Soderbergh. I thought he did a great job with Solaris.

I had not even thought of Joss Whedon, but I agree. My interest of Dune stemed from my interest in Firefly. I do not know why, but there is something about Dune that I like, and when I watch Firefly I think of how good Dune could have been if it was done like Firefly. Whedon did not rush character development so he could have more action he let the story develope naturally, and Dune is a story that can not be rushed in its presentation. I wonder if Whedon is a fan of Dune?

That's another thing that bugs me about AOTC. Obi-Wans f***ing hair piece. Man, it looks really bad in parts!

But you should be focusing on story, not his hair.

Does anyone think that ROTS is worse than AOTC?

Yes, ROTS is by far the worst of the PT for me, and I also own all the PT on DVD and TPM on DVD and VHS. I do not regret getting them they costed $15 - $20 each. That is not that much.

TPM fails somewhat as a Star Wars film. It feels like it does not belong, but by itself it has a complete story and does not need to be followed up by anything which makes me enjoy it even more by itself. At the end of the movie you could assume that Obi-Wan trains Anikan and he grows up to be a powerful jedi, and Queen Amidala goes on to rule her people in peace with the Gungans. This is one place that makes TPM stronger than the other PT films. Attack of the Clones however I hink functions very well as a part of the Star Wars saga. It continues the story from TPM with some flaws. Yes, the romance was stiff, but all young romance has some quirks and cheesiness. Anikan confessing to Padme that he slaughtered the Tuskens should have been cut. Anikan's temper and this dark secret could have been used to create misstrust between Anikan and Padme, and could have added to the reason why he eventually turns against Padme and the Jedi order. She knows Anikan is hiding something from her, and she draws the wrong conclusion about it. Anikan in turn thinks her tension towards him is because something else and he draws the wrong conclusion. This would have made his turn more tragic, because it would have been based on misstrust and lack of communication, and how one small things can destroy a beautiful thing. Bobba Fett being a clone was interesting, but could have been better. Rather than Bobba being a clone himself he should have been the person who the clones were modeled after instead of Jango, and he should have been a commandor of the clones in the clone war. It would have also been cool if Bobba had taken Cammandor Cody's spot, and had been the one who executed Order 66 against Obi-Wan. Even though I would have liked these to things happen instead of what did happen in Attack of the Clones I still enjoy the film more than ROTS. I can not stand ROTS. It presents the characters in a completely different way than the other two previous PT movies. Padme is not near as strong or intelligent. Mace is way to misstrusting of Anikan bordering on paranoy, whereas in Attack of the Clones Mace keeps telling Obi-Wan that he must have faith in Anikan and that he is the chosen one. Anikan is presented like a different character. Greivous would have been better if he had not had that stupid cough. Dooku should have been in his place. I also do not like the planets in ROTS. Coruscant took up way to much screentme. I got sick of seeing the senate, the jedi temple, and the Chancelor's office from a 100 different angles and the same rooms over and over again.

TPM: good film by itself, weak as a part of the saga.
AOTC: Feels very much like Star Wars, and has a mystery plot which I like.
ROTS: failed on almost all leves for me.

So sorry to hear about your loss, but at least you were able to salvage some stuff.

I'm glad to see you're persisting in spite of all of Lucasfilm's efforts, um, I mean, in spite of all the bad luck you're having.

I hope you can find the funds for two hard drives. Hopefully that will give you a good backup capability. Good luck!

I do wonder why it is that people working on major projects like this one always have all these problems when it gets close to release. Adywan, maybe I am being parinoid, but maybe you should work on this project on a computer not hooked to the internet or an ethernet. This would stop anything bad being pumped into your computer.

Info: Harry Potter TV Edits?

Funny thing, it's still not an official announcement. This is leaked by another source, VideoBusiness.com, who says:

Also, many of Warner’s Harry Potter films will be released on high-def timed to the home entertainment bow of July theatrical Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

My fingers are crossed that Warner continues to print their flippy HD-DVD/DVD discs so the other 99% of us can watch these.

I hate those HD-DVD/DVD combo things. I do not unserstand why people that do not want to invest in HD-DVD at the current time would invest in a $40 disc that they can only access half of. If you are willing to pay double the price for a combo disc repeatedly you might as well buy an HD-DVD player. Plus, if there are any new extras (which I highly doubt, because WB is probably saving stuff for a huge 7 movie boxset after the films are released ) the only new extras would be HD extras on the HD-DVD side so there want be anything new for the DVD people anyways. I already have the DVD version I do not want it again. Those combo discs cost me $40 instead of $25. If you already have the DVD version why would you it again. And if you are wanting to have the option of HD-DVD down the road why not go ahead and get an HD-DVD player. The HD-A2 is selling on Amazon for $250, and it is a very good player. The shipping is also free.

P.S. I heard the Extended Editions would not be until after the final 7th movie is out.

No, I'm not replacing Christopher Lee. Christopher Lee is wonderful. However, I made some plot changes and not all of the old dialogue fit. Just hang tight- this is one of my surprises

OK.

I told her today she is my best friend ever and how much I care and love her and stuff like that.

One way you may be able to tell if she is being abused is if she completely rejects you when you see her next time. If you say something like "We can still be friends, and still hang out", and she replies with something around the lines of "No, that is not good. We should not see each other anymore. It is for the best. My step-father was right. I am too young." And if she does say something like this ask her why and if she replies with anything like "I can't tell you" then more than likely something is definitely going on that is not good. I hope that this not the case, but some people end up in situations like this. So, it is definitely a possibility. Keep us posted on what happens.

Your first words of reaction after watching one of the PT movies for the first time.

TPM: Best Star Wars film ever! Why can't they remake the old ones to make them more like this one with all the cool effects and the better looking lightsabers and fights? Then as the years went on I hated it more and more.

AOTC:This was the only midnight premiere I have ever been to. I thought the movie was better than the first one. It is still my favorite of the PT.

ROTS: As I walked out of the theatre I talked about how good it was and that it was my 3rd favorite, but by the time the DVD came out I could not stand the movie. I do not know what happened, but I just can not stand ROTS. It feels like a bunch of seperate short scenes strung together. Plus, most of it takes place on Coruscant, and Coruscant is really boring to me. There is not really a driving force in the film.

I have heard of step-fathers being way over protective of the step-daughters more than once. My advice since he is not her real father and her safety and relationships actually fall into the hands of her real mother who is related to her by blood, I would say definitely do not give up.

Now about something else I thought about while reading your posts, sean wookie, I am going to go into some fuzzy territory right here so forgive me, but do you know if the step father abuses her in any way? With the comment you said her step-father made about her, and him wanting her to have no relationships ( meaning possibly he wants to be the only guy in her life ), and her not having many friends ( which could mean she is reclusive which can come from mental or physical abuse ), and she is at that age where the step-father can still maintane controll over her. Also, he does not let her go out of the house, which can also mean he is very possesive and does not like it when he does not know what she is doing. And I do not know if you meant it this way, but the fact that she needs lots of hugs means she is a sign of emotional abuse. All this can point to many kinds of abuse. I have seen so many abuse cases with step-fathers that I may be overthinking this, but for some reasons the way you described his reaction to you calling her something about it just does not feel right to me. I am not telling you to come right out and ask her if she is having any problems at home, but keep an eye on here and her home life. Once again I may be overthinking this, but all the signs are there.

I guess I understand your point better, Marvolo, assuming you look at special edits of Star Wars only as alternative versions and not a supposedly "improved" replacement of the original. I still believe the original film is the best version to watch in a historical sense and in an authentic sense. Other than that, I think tasteful, alternative versions are a fun experience. Too bad George's edits were designed to replace the originals.

That is what I was trying to say with those very long posts of mine and you got it exactly right, Tiptup. None of these special edits could replace what the 1977 version of Star Wars is to me. It is the best version of that movie. It is a classic. However, I watch alternate versions like adywan's to experience it a different way than the origianl just to see someone else's take on it, not to replace it.
