Marvolo,

I really like the transitioning from the arm restraints, to Palpatine Standing. It was seemless and eliminated one of my least favorite lines in the whole movie. Thank you for that! The one thing that I did miss was the look of terror on Dooku's face when Anakin has him on his knees, head between the blades. This is where he realizes, he's met his match, and this wasn't the same boy who he had beat in AOTC. Oh yeah, that and the fact that his life was over.

Only other question, I know many people are attempting to keep the vader thing a secret, do you plan on doing this as well? Vader's music may be a bit too revealing if you are trying to keep it a secret. Also it may be a bit too early in the movie for this, as he has not yet turned to the dark side. Might be more appropriate after he chops off Mace's arm (if it's not already there, I can't remember).

Keep the clips coming! I love all the different "Point of Views".

I hadn't really planned to do a whole edit. I just like to do bits and pieces of the movies to help people get ideas to use in their own edits. I may stick all these little edits together and make a full edit of ROTS, but right now I am mostly taking it slow and doing what you might call pre-production work.

About the Vader theme music, I had planned to not use it, but in The Story of Star Wars PDF book released by a member of this forum it has some quotes from George Lucas about ROTS. George states that at one point when he was planning Anikan's fall to the Dark Side he wanted the Anikan/Dooku duel to mirror the ROTJ Vader/Luke/Emperor duel in that Luke chooses the Light Side and the story ends, but in ROTS Anikan chooses to give in to his hatred and kills Dooku and by doing so rather than the film ending the film continues to chart Anikan's decent to the Dark Side.

This made me want to try to make Anikan's fall more like George's original idea by having the killing of Dooku be what starts his spiral towards the Dark Side rather than his dreams of Padme and his attempts to save her. Plus, I think something like Vader's theme should have been used to chart Anikan's decent to the Dark Side musically in the Prequels. In each film Anikan's theme would slowly get darker and closer to the militaristic Vader theme in ESB. It could have been a hopeful theme at first, but after his slaughter of the Tuskens you would start to hear confusing and unbalanced chaotic and harsh notes symbolizing Anikan's own confusion. But since no music was written like this for the prequels I used what I had.

I did an edit of the the Death of Dooku and it happens really fast now. Dooku doesn't even have a chance to realize what is about to happen.
I also cut out Anikan's line "I shouln't have done that. It is not the Jedi way." Watch it please, and tell me what you guys think: Anikan's Dark Side

P.S. The Dark Side music is similar to the music used during Anikan's Confession scene from AOTC, but is closer to the OT Darth Vader theme and is louder signifying that Anikan is slipping closer to the Dark Side. Also, since the Tusken Slaughter is mentioned it is apropriate to use this music because it was attatched to the confession scene in AOTC.

Just think it is necessary to remember these things when we talk about this kind of stuff these days.

I learned about this in US history. I am so sick of the hypocritical bullshit of this country.

Speaking of the bloody rain. I read in the paper this morning that we'll be lucky to have a summer this year. Apparently the only 'sunny' day we'll get is July 15th - -just bloody great.
Have a baby arriving any day now, and was looking forward to chilling in the sun

Congratulations on the baby!

This kind of stuff usually happens during a power shift. Every time a country has power transfered to someone new or different, terrorists like to attack, because the country is in a vulnerable state. Most government overthrows happen during power shifts. As long as Prime Minister Brown keeps a level head and shows the terrorist that he is not afraid to push back and will take anything thrown at him the attackers will probably stop.

UH, YOU DIDN'T SPELL HYPOCRITE CORRECTLY.
A hypocrite? Would that be someone who, for example, points out spelling mistakes made by other people but hasn't yet worked out how to turn caps lock off?

THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ABILITY TO SPELL. I'VE HAD MY CAPS LOCK SET ON HERE LONG BEFORE YOU WERE AROUND. MUST WE REHASH THIS AGAIN ???

Do you feel that caps make you sexy for Dune? Uhhmmmmmm Dunelicious!!!!!

Originally Anakin was to kill Dooku the way he killed Windu, towards the middle of the film.
There was no Grevious, because that character was created to fill in the gap that was left when they decided to kill Dooku off within the first fifteen minutes.
Obi-Wan wasn't sent to kill Grevious/Dooku either.

And it opened with a montage of the Clone Wars being fought on seven different planets, instead of the flat rescue of Palpatine.

Deciding to kill off Dooku and replace him with Grevious opened up a lot of problems, and I think ruined the story of the first half of the movie. (Which subsequently helped ruin the story of the second half.)

Hal, do you have a copy of this script? I would love to read it.

Darth Bane Novel: A Great Exploration of the Dark Side

There was supposed to be a Dartth Plagieus novel by James Luceno coming out, but it got scrapped so they decided to have a sequel to the Darth Bane novel published in its place.

That makes me happy. Thanks for the background on the publishing decision. The name "Plagieus" itself would make me fear that the book would be bad, but I wasn't enthralled with the character name "Bane" either. Is Luceno a good author?

I just looked it up, and the new book is titled "Darth Bane: Rule of Two", which sounds like it will start directly after the first one? That would be cool.

The book about Plagieus is about Plapatine/Darth Sidious' master.

Would anyone want a Dune remake?
Time
I am not arguing that the Lord of the Rings was perfect. The Two Towers is a horribly paced film, changing Frodo's age was pointless, making Merry and Pippin comic relief was pointless, Denethor should have seemed troubled instead of psychotic, Borimir was over the top, Aragon should not have acted like he did not want to be king in the films, Faramir's character should have been left the way he was in the book, Shelob should have been in The Two Towers (I know why they changed it, but it ROTK had to much stuff going on already without Shelob. It took away from the Siege of Gondor). There are lots of things I dislike about the films, but for a film that was said to be unfilmable Peter Jackson did a good job.

Maybe someone like Peter Jackson who would stay as faithful to the source material as possible.

I had sparkling water coming out of my nose when I read this. Painful. Anyone who thinks PJ was faithful to LOTR needs to read the books again. I also worry that PJ would take his director's cut hubris to the hilt with something like this and produce a film even more bloated and overlong than King Kong was.

I like the idea of getting Joss Whedon invloved, and I also liked the miniseries approach. I'd like to see an adaptation of Dune financed by HBO, Showtime of Cinemax with a similar approach to that taken by Rome.

Peter Jackson deviated alot from the novel yes, but you try adapting a 1,000 page novel. Some things that work on paper do not work on film.

Info: Harry Potter TV Edits?

Something interesting to ponder.

Imsdb (internet movie script database) has the HP scripts.
As is frequently the case it's the shooting script, not the final cut that someone transcribed.

I've started through Chamber of Secrets (1/28/02 revision - that's 11 months before the release).

And here is what is really itching my brain:
Some of the deleted scenes that were added back for the TV broadcasts are not in the books (or were strongly altered).
The script on the other hand doesn't seem to have several of the deleted scenes.

On the other (3rd?) hand it DOES contain lots of additional dialog and scenes right from the book, but in neither cut of the film.

Hmmm.

Yeah, the POA script was alot better than the actual film.
