should I get the GOUT?
Time
The OOT deserves the best treatment possible. We all agree on that. But to not buy the GOUT, and coninue to watch them on crappy VHS, you have no right to fuss over what Lucas has done with this recent release of the GOUT. This is because the GOUT looks better than most VHS versions, so how can you gripe about the quality of the GOUT and then watch a VHS version and be happy? It sounds like a double standard to me. This is just an off-hand statement of my oppinion not directed at anyone in particular.

The Empire Strikes Back - The Vintage Edit (Released)
Time
Some people can't download DL. Maybe they don't have the hard drive space, or maybe they share a computer with someone and that person doesn't like there internet connection being slowed down by a file that size being downloaded. I agree that it is up to the editor to decide how it is released, but you have to understand a persons predicament before yous start assuming that they are too lazy to shrink a movie.

Xbox Elite

I hope they offer some kind of update for us that bought the premiums. I got mine at Christmas, and now they decide to update. I want that new chip( if the elit's get it) and the new cooling system so it will run quieter. I would even pay a small fee for the upgrade, but I am not spending another $479 when I already have a system and HD-DVD add-on. If they don't offer an upgrade I will just spend the money on a PS3.

Spider-Man 2.1 - Extended Cut

Its not doing as good as they say. In Europe HD-DVD still makes up 85% of HD media sales. People forget sometimes that a format has to be excepted in other places than just America. Also, HD-DVD is region free, which means I can get movies only available on Blu-Ray in the U.S. on HD-DVD from Europe or anywhere in the world it is available. I can get Underworld Evoultion, The Prestige, and other Blu-Ray titles on HD-DVD from Europe. That is why I like HD-DVD, versatility.

Spider-Man 2.1 - Extended Cut

Don't listen to what Sony's PR is saying. Hi-Def Digest recently went to an electronics convention ( I can't remember the name of the convention, but when I find the link tot the report I will post it), and they had a study on sales of Hi-Def media. HD-DVD has sold more stand-alone players than Blu-Ray so far. Also, Blu-Ray's support comes from the studios that support it, and there are lost. If some of them start swinging to HD-DVD also then it is over. HD-DVD is a consumer friendly product. It is cheaper, and offers far more interactivity.

P.S. If you are so sure Blu-Ray will win and is such a sure choice, why not buy into it now?

A stand-alone HD-DVD player's prices range from $300-$500 now that Toshiba has dropped their prices. Also, Sony's new top of the line Blu-Ray player costs $500. HD-DVD is suppossed to have a stand-alone player by the end of the year that will cost only $150. The prices are going to start dropping now that competition is really starting to kick in between the two formats. I have the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 by the way, and it is worth the $200 I paid for it.

Where to enter EU?

for years the original novelizations were considered canon as well as the radio drama, don't know where they stand now because the prequels made several point that screwed with or altered continuity like obi wan being owen lars brother in the return of the jedi novelization which was in george lucas script but was dropped from the movie.

if i was a new fan wanting to enter the EU i'd start with the Dark Empire comics and possibly the truce at bakura and work my way through the thrawn trilogy.

if you prefer classic trilogy era theres an ongoing comics series called rebellion, there is shadow of the empire novelization for a non existant movie, and zahn's newest novel allegiance set during the classic era.

theres enough diffrent eras, characters and stories to pretty much satify anyone, theres 30 years of comics, cartoons, books, and video games to sort through. quite a daunting task my friend.

i myself prefer the EU before the prequels bacause every novel did'nt have to written backwards to tie in with them.
the only exceptions i have are the NJO novels, the dark nest and legacy eras.

as much as i hate the prequels Matt stovers novels Shatterpoint and Revenge of the sith are really well done. traitor tries to connect with the prequel era zenoma secot and vergere.

I have read the ROTJ novelization, and I don't remember it being mentioned that Obi-Wan was Owen's brother. Could you post a page number?
