Yes I’ve watched another horror movie and yes I’m aware I might have a problem but I like them and, frankly, it’s none of your business so let’s move on shall we?

Hey, you’re in good company here. I consider myself a horror aficionado. Been studying the genre for about 20 years.
(I watched horror before that, but was too young to really delve into studying the genre)

Good on ya, Ray! Nice to know there’s somebody else here who appreciates a good scary movie 😃

^ Well, all of that sounds like a very strange movie. Probably one of those arthouse sorts?

The last one I watched was a bit more commercial…

Poltergeist II - The Other Side (1986)

Yes I’ve watched another horror movie and yes I’m aware I might have a problem but I like them and, frankly, it’s none of your business so let’s move on shall we? The movie gets back nearly all the original cast (Dominique Dunne, the actress who played the eldest daughter sadly passed away, to put it mildly, before the sequel was greenlit). The story tries to retcon certain things in a way that makes it seem like it’s an expansion of events but if you think about them, they just don’t make sense. But it’s a fun(ish) story and the creepy old dude in the hat is still as scary to me now as he was when I was ten! There’s a couple of nice touches and funny lines but there’s not much here the original (a bona-fide classic in my book) didn’t do better. Ultimately, it just doesn’t have any real charm to it. Easily missable.

I give it 2 non-politically correct wrathful Indian spirits out of 5.

Dragging this increasingly disturbing derailed train back onto the tracks I just watched a movie!

“Hush” (2016)

It’s a very familiar home invasion thriller plot (that must surely qualify as a genre in its own right by now?) and all the usual things happen. But the twist with this one is that the protagonist is deaf and it really makes a difference to how the two main characters behave. I can’t say more without spoiling it but this is a well thought out, smart movie. It mercifully doesn’t give the villian any kind of backstory or motive - he’s just some lunatic doing bad things because he likes to do bad things.

And at just over 80 minutes it doesn’t overstay its welcome either! It’s worth your time if you’re in the mood for a bit of tension!

I give it 5 creepy remote cabins out of 5.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?
Time

Abrams was interviewed by Empire magazine a little while after his announcement as director. They asked him which versions he showed to his children, he replied something along the lines of, “The original theatricals, that’s very important.”

I’ve tried to find the issue with the interview (both in my flat and online!) but I can’t so you’ll have to take my word for it!!

“Arrow” Season One.

It took a few episodes to grab me but I devoured it after it did! Far better than I was expecting! What a fun and well-plotted show and all the characters are interesting and for the most part, well used. The music is great too.

I’m looking forward to Season Two!

I give it 4 suspiciously-Canadian-looking-Chinese-islands out of 5.

"Best" home releases of the pre-SE original trilogy?

To simplify - your only option for high quality is the laserdisc. It’s better than videotape. The GOUT on DVD (sourced from those laserdiscs) is obviously the most conveniently available version. It was released for a limited time in 2006 as “bonus” discs with the 2004 special edition. You can find them on eBay and occasionally they pop up on Amazon and similar sites. The resolution on all those is noticeably not good on modern large screen tellies.

In all honesty, you’ll do your family a disservice showing them laserdiscs or DVDs when you’ve got the Despecialised Edition available. I do understand the need to have something “official” though!

I’ve been looking for a Blu-Ray burner that I can use with my laptop. I found this one and it honestly seems like exactly what I’m after. Not being an expert on such things I thought check what you guys thought before I ordered it.

Is it a suitable investment for a casual anateur looking for a general use (reading/writing/ripping etc) machine?

I’d appreciate any suggestions for other burners too!

Ah, quite titilating. YESIMADETHATJOKE!

“The Negotiator” (1998)

Samuel L Jackson shouts his way through a movie as only he can. Kevin Spacey is the hostage negotiator negotiating with a negotiator and he’s brilliant. Every actor in it is brilliant. It’s exciting, tense, witty, superbly shot, edited and scored.

I’ve seen it before and I was still on the edge of my seat. As far as I can tell the movie’s only misstep was not letting the audience in on the fact that Sam’s character didn’t kill Thin Hank Shraeder sooner. Other than that, flawless.

Also, if you go back and rewatch the beginning credits once you know who the bad guys are you can see that the photos are composed in a way that betrays their guilt through subtle body language and their physical placement with other characters.

Genius. A hugely impressive 4.75 oversized-air-vents out of 5.

and then theres this jerk, who is actually promoting the sale of these discs on his youtube channel!

He claims that they are a legit company lol!

“They’re a start-up company!”

He said he bought his Friday the 13th from eBay and that the reason there’s no artwork on the disc is because it’s a small company trying to get started. He’s clearly just an enthusiastic film-lover but being THAT ignorant is appallingly hilarious.
