I think it would’ve been a better resolution for Dukat to genuinely see the error of his ways and have him end his story in a similar way to Garak, only have him do it on Bajor.

It’d be really satisfying if after all his atrocities and delusions of grandeur he chose to live his life in relative anonymity helping the people he’d oppressed in a humble way.

So.

Can a fella connect a standard blu ray player to a laptop as a mock “external drive” so he might, with the help of software, rip his discs? Or would this fella be better off purchasing an actual external drive? And if he should do that, and keeping in mind he lives in the U.K., what should he be looking for? How do all the fan editors here rip their sources?! Please and thank you.

I stupidly mentioned I hadn’t ever seen a Trinian’s movie and found myself being treated to two in one (horrifying) evening.

“St. Trinians” (2007)

It’s a sad state of affairs when Russell Brand is the best thing about a movie.

0.5 out of 5.

“St. Trinians 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold” (2009)

I’m a nice person, I’m kind to strangers and animals, I don’t break the speed limit, I didn’t deserve to have this film inflicted on me. What the heck was everybody thinking when they made this?

Nothing out of 5. NOTHING, BLOODY NOTHING, DO YOU HEAR ME?

Yeah, the trailer for TLJ totally spoiled for me that it would have characters from TFA and would have scenes in space. I didn’t need to know that!

That’s sort of the point though. Personally I only watch teaser trailers for movies and try to avoid everything else that comes after for fear of getting spoiled but there’s plenty of people who don’t want any information. If you’re going to have a non-spoiler thread then it should put those people’s wishes first.

I agree. “Non-spoiler” shouldn’t be open to interpretation at all. If it’s information, images or trailers about a movie or tv show that’s out before the official release then it could potentially spoil something for somebody somewhere.

Everybody has different standards of what “spoiler” means so we need to have somewhere that’s free from new information or else what’s the point in having two threads at all?

Random Thoughts

I have decided that I will not be having children. It’s taken years to come to a final decision (assuming that I even had any say in the matter to begin with!) but time is ticking on and I’ll soon be 40 so I feel like I need to make a definite choice. I can see many, many positives but the negatives are something I wouldn’t feel right ignoring. For me, it’s dogs, cats and possibly gerbils - and I feel good about that.

“Europa Report” (2013)

The found footage format is old hat these days but this nifty little film isn’t half bad.

Some chick who isn’t Shailene Woodley doing a British accent, a dude from The Wire, the villain from Ghost Protocol, Howlin’ Mad Murdock himself (no, not the proper one) and the Ice Truck Killer from Dexter fill out the cast along with a couple of other actors who might well have had other roles. They blast off towards Jupiter for science reasons and are never heard of again until their mysterious in-flight footage is found.

There’s a reason nobody’s aware of this movie (I just watched it and I’m still not entirely sure I’ve heard of it) and that’s because it sounds like a load of old codswallop. You can’t sell a movie like this these days without people thinking it’s derivative. It made more than its budget back but it didn’t do great business (sadly, “Uranus Report” will likely never get greenlit) - but it’s actually well worth your time.

A well-paced, nicely made, satisfyingly scripted bit of sci-fi… 3 and a half C-listers out of 5? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Doctor Who

They’ve GOT to do a team-up special and have Joanna Lumley back - even if it’s just for a Children in Need/Comic Relief spoof seeing the two of them together would be a hoot.

Not a fan of spoilers and I tried my absolute best to avoid the new doctor news but found out whilst reading a movie website article about D23. This happened when Capaldi was announced too - I like surprises Internet, stop spoiling my ignorance.

I like the casting choice though, as long as they don’t continually reference the doctor’s gender as the series progresses I think we’re in for a something fun and interesting.

Rise of the Rebellion: A Rogue One Edit (Released)

I’m really looking forward to seeing this. It sounds great, and with a few exceptions your edits are the edits I would make to the film.

Thanks for the interest! Which edit choices would you add or remove?

As everyone is saying, this is your baby so you do things YOUR way!

In my ideal version of this edit though:

I’d keep the informant scene as is, keep Chirrut’s human shield antics and all his lines, I would leave Vader’s eyes as they are, I wouldn’t add the force theme anywhere, I’d keep Vader’s gestures as they are, and I’d also fade to white a bit faster when Jyn and Cassian meet their noble end.

Steak…and…ale…pie?

Welcome to England mate, where we have just as many savoury pies as sweet ones 😜

You’ve got your steak chopped up, you’ve got your gravy made with a bit of ale and it’s all wrapped up in a nice bit of pastry. It’s delicious (except when you eat a bad one!)

One dodgy steak and ale pie from Morrisons on Thursday has rendered me useless for the best part of two days. I’ve missed work, I can’t stand up straight because of the pain in my tummy and I have all the other usual symptoms which go along with food poisoning.

How can one little pie bring about so much evil?

To all who read this, send any spare happy thoughts you have to me.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017)

What a fun movie. There was just about the right amount of everything and it fits right into the greater MCU as if it was all planned from the start - which it most definitely was not! How do Marvel make such different movies simultaneously fit together, stand apart and be connected and not only be coherent but entertaining?

Casting Jennifer Connolly, the real-life-wife of Paul Bettany, as the voice of the suit was a genius move.

A superb restartification for Spidey and I’m eager to see what’s next.

Okay, I’m fangirling and this might change on the next viewing but I can’t help myself - I give it 5 Lego Death Stars out of 5.

But where was Uncle Ben though? (Answer: He’s at home, cooking his rice.)

“Predestination” (2013)

I’ve never heard of The Spierig Brothers but they wrote, scored and directed this wonderful film which until last night I never knew existed. If a sci-fi-drama-mystery-noir (in colour) sounds like your sort of thing and you haven’t seen this gem already then drop what you’re doing and watch it immediately. I guarantee* you will thank yourself afterwards.

Everything, absolutely everything, is superb. Ethan Hawke’s performance is deliberately low-key (you’ll see why) and Sarah
Snook (who looks like Jodie Foster and Leonardo Dicaprio’s love child most of the time) acts with so much skill and subtlety she should win an award every year regardless of whether she’s been in anything else.

Sci-Fi. Time travel. A vicious twist in the tale. I can’t say more without spoiling it. Don’t watch the trailer, just watch the movie (and tell your friends to do the same.)

I give it 5 violin cases out of 5 because it’s a masterpiece of its genre.

*guarantee void in Tennessee.

Transformers - The Last Knight (2017)

I did not go willingly into The Last Knight. The promise of a “nice burger” beforehand, a “bit of a laugh” in the cinema and the gentle suggestion of some “adult situations” arising when we got home ultimately meant I was powerless but to comply. Sadly, I was disappointed on all but one count.

We’ve all been here before - too long, not as funny as it thinks it is, offensively edited etc. I went in with the lowest of expectations and just about enjoyed it. I didn’t get half as bored as I did during the last one and the visual effects are absolutely jaw-droppingly good. The changing aspect ratio was annoying though - why don’t they make it expand widthways instead of jumping up and down?!

The plot is a load of bobbins and for anybody not from the U.K. let me tell you that, Sir Anthony Hopkins or not, you will likely be shot, tazed or beaten if you just walk up to 10, Downing Street’s front door and demand to be let in. Oh, and Stonehenge might be in the countryside but it’s next to a big road.

The highlight for me was “Little J-Lo”, a cracking actress who I think ought to have had more screen time… actually, do you know who really should’ve had more screen time? The bloody Transformers! Considering the name of the film it felt like they were barely in it.

Still, the burger was nice.

I give it 1.75 thisaintthelastnuthin’s out of 5.
