You could track Battle of the Heroes on anything it would every time be epic. It also works with Conan the Barbarian score.

I don’t like the color correction. Yellow tint is not really beautiful. In a Johnnie To movie I guess it works but here I don’t feel it does.

I thought Austin Powers could have gone a lot further in spoofing 007 movies. Poke fun at the gunbarrel and title sequences. The otherwise forgettable Spy Hard had an awesome title sequence, directed by Weird Al no less!

I’m seeing some buzz that Ben Mendelssohn’s officer character may in fact be the old EU’s Armand Isard, who was re-canonized by the Tarkin novel. Someone connected to Lucasfilm (I forget exactly who) hinted that we may have seen him before on Twitter yesterday.
His outfit sure looks cool (we have never seen Grand Admiral before in live action). The actor has an interesting “Cushing-like” face. Could be a good vilain for once.

But does it mean the unfinished vilain is to be an idiot ? If JJ wanted to show Ren as an idiot, he succeeded I guess. I just think the whole idea to be… well… stupid. And why would Snoke choose leaders that are so incompetent ? Tarkin and Vader were assholes but efficient and competent assholes. They ultimately fail because of unpredictable bad luck (a gifted pilot out of nowhere - a simple farmer when the movie begins - who got help by an old wise man - presumed dead when the story begins - and by a smuggler who decided to take side for the first time of his life: what are the odds ?). Ren and Hux fail because they are incompetent and are surrounded by incompetent people (Captain Phasma…). No one takes them seriously. Snoke seems as bright as Kim Jong II in Team America.

But Luke is not the representative of an interstellar threat. He’s not in charge of an army. Kylo Ren is. Both characters are so different you can’t compare.

Well, I know. I believe the first act and Han’s death to be Kasdan’s (because it’s really close to what him, Lucas and Kurtz had in mind when they talked about REVENGE OF THE JEDI and the sequel trilogy), and the second act and most of the third act to be JJ’s. We’ll know the truth in a decade or so.

I added in the “You’re so right” last minute. I have a draft of kylo and Snoke. I thought about removing all snoke scenes but it could leave a plot hole.
I don’t remember Snoke being useful in the plot. The character is awful. At least you should cut the line about Kylo who should finish his training, otherwise why would he have appointed him second in command of the fleet ? So if Snoke is stupid, the threat he represents does not work. I would hence advise to remove him entirely (leave the dialogues when he’s mentionned, à la Emperor in ANH).
By the way,“You’re so right” is not really an issue. Are you going to remove Poe’s joking during his arrest ?

Battle at Maz’s Castle - The Empire Strikes Back Music
It’s already an improvement over the original material. I wasn’t sure about the music but it works well. If you cut most of Finn weird scenes ("I don’t want to kill" and then "LASERSABER KILLING !!!") and all of Kylo Ren going Donald Duck (and all of Snoke incredibly stupid scenes), you could achieve with Ep VII what Hal and others have achieved with the PT: making highly flawed movies watchable and, why not, good enough.
GL should have invited Irvin Kershner to direct this one.
And Gary Kurtz to produce it.
And Martha Lucas to edit it.

I don’t even see the point to comparing them: Mike Myers is not the director nor the screenwriter of Shrek.

The Matrix Revolutions
Perfect ending, impressive action scenes, wagnerian music, intelligent symbolism. Even better than the first one. Only Reloaded is kinda mediocre (the narrative is great but it takes too long to get to the Architect, the most important scene of the trilogy).
There is one thing good about JP4: the soundtrack. Very good new themes that flow naturally with Williams’ material. Would love to hear Giacchino’s music on a “King Kong” flick.
