I know it’s going to be historic. The man is funny AND seems to be efficient. Obama had good speeches but without intelligent actions speeches are worthless, and so are Obama’s 8 years: worthless. He only brought more wars than Bush and let ISIS spread. So yeah, thanks Obama, really… won’t miss you…

Do you complain about your own country’s leaders this much?

Yep, and we took care of them:

  • Nicolas Sarkozy lost the republican party caucus (I voted against him)
  • his former foreign affairs minister Alain Juppé lost as well (I also voted against him)
  • François Hollande is not going to run for office again
  • his prime minister Manuel Valls is about to lose the socialist caucus

So it is “en route”: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primaire_citoyenne_de_2017

Almost “Manu tchao” on this one. Fourth on my list to be (almost) defeated even before the 2017 Presidential first round. We’ll have a bad president, but at least we won’t have the worst possible (and I don’t believe for a second that Marine Le Pen could win).

What happened to the Myth?
Time

The thing I truly like about the PT is that the characters are driven by the Force: the will of the Force, the quest for the Force, the knowledge of and for the Force, and so on. With the mystical belief about a Prophecy that happens to have been misunderstood, and arrogant Force users who finally get punished in their flesh (Vader, Sidious). I’m not talking about midibullshit which in fact has no consequences on the story told (except the subtle idea that Palpatine could be Anakin’s father, but it’s never clear and the is up to anyone own opinion about it). So in the PT it works: the myth is here, the movies are just not very good for other reasons and awkard moments (such as “this weapon is your life”, not very consistent) as well as a few bad ideas. It’s obviously very far from the perfection of the OT, but it’s better than nothing.

R1 had moments like that with Donnie Yen, but sadly it wasn’t earned and got nowhere and unfinished in the released movie. On the other hand, TFA basically has nothing to do with the myth and the Force. It’s more a meta-film, hence more meta-myth and meta-Force. It talks about it, tries to link the 3 trilogies together, but it’s hardly enough. Knights of Ren ? Just a flashback and a vague mention by Snoke (and the fact their leader is said to haven’t finished his training…), this is too weak to get mythological. Maz ? She only has a lost lightsaber in her basement. The “calling” thing from the lightsaber ? Very unclear. The “it’s true. All of it” contains that “meta” fact: the Force is no longer at stake, it just exists and you’ve got to believe it exists, and 2 scenes later you can master the Jedi mind trick with little effort. The Force is only some kind of labeled product to make the plot advanced like a “deus ex machina” plot twist.

I wonder if Johnson is going to “fix” that in VIII/IX.

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

Have you watched PT fanedits ? I was quite amazed by how small edits can radically turn a somehow bad scene into something actually very decent. I even believe that by removing a few shots it’s possible to make something good (ie less bad) out of Daisy Ridley’s performance (mostly by removing her “eyes wide open/mouth wide open” moments - aka “Squi…” no, I think I’ve already made my point about that 😃) and to give consistency to Finn’s character (who seems to be merged from 2 or 3 different characters - funny one, drama one, antic one, etc. - from Lucas synopsis*).

Anyway, if you need a link to know where you can get these, do not hesitate (show no mercy) to send a PM.

(*… yeah, Lucas, 'cause I’m more and more sure that LFL was too short on schedule to begin from scratch, they probably have recycled ideas from GL treatments - and obviously from GL’s OT… -, as it has been confirmed on another topic).

(and by the way Hal if you need to make the proper changes to the subs I’d still be glad to help - it’s basically one of the very rare things I can do about fanedits 😄… well, that and audio changes here and there)

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

Not in the very near future I guess. After the release of Episode 9 faneditors of Episode 7 (and probably 8-9) are likely to polish their own cuts. The latest PT fanedits are very different than those that came when Episode 2 or 3 were still not released. There are many good ideas to re-edit Episode 7 into something better, but the movie is still fresh and still quite liked so nothing too radical. I personally consider the restructure project to be the base to future fanedits of TFA, especially if nothing contradicts it in the two following episodes.

I’m sorry if you used to think the PT was good. That’s hard to understand too.

However I’m still a big fan of Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars. What are they waiting for to give him a SW animated series again ?

Because his first one wasn’t that great?

Is that the Samurai Jack one?

Yes. Because Star Wars needed Mace Windu jumping a thousand feet into the air to punch a skyscraper-size droid to pieces and that’s apparently much better than TFA or RO.

TFA and R1 are not SW. It’s bad movies with a SW skin, so it’s not SW. Clone Wars is. But that’s ok, your point of view is… logical.

L O L

Stop pretending to be SW fans. First your unconditional love for terrible disney flicks, then THIS. Man. Can’t believe that… well, it does explain everything as a matter of fact 😃

Not at all. I was a teenager when TPM came out and it was an impressive movie (it basically was never seen at that time, and along with The Matrix 1999 was quite an interesting year for sci-fi). It took the release of AOTC for starting to see something was wrong. ROTS redeemed a few things but still carried the same flaws. So I’ve never used to think the PT was good, only parts of it and never at the same time. However I’m still a big fan of Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars. What are they waiting for to give him a SW animated series again ?

@Lord Haseo, Good to hear not everyone seemingly “hates” the start of the ST with TFA.

Are you kidding ? Well, here on OT.com the majority loves TFA. But it’s not (or “no longer”) the case in the outside world. How many times have I heard these past few weeks “R1 rocks, TFA sucked so much, at last a good SW movie !” ? Too many. People are now accepting the fact that TFA is PT quality (even less…) with an OT skin (people IRL, don’t forget, not here). Pretty sure next december will be “Episode 8 rocks, R1 sucked so much, at last a good SW movie !”…

I wouldn’t want to hear the Imperial March before its first appearance in The Empire Strikes Back.

It’s in Phantom Menace, so there’s another knock against the prequels.

No, it’s not “another knock against”. And R1 is part of the prequels by the way… (and it’s the fourth best prequel).
