Land is always a good investment, as they're not making any more of the stuff... to paraphrase whoever that was.

Lex Luthor: Land, Miss Lane. I mean--Kitty, what did my father used to say to me?
Kitty Kowalski: "You're losing your hair"?
Lex Luthor: Before that.
Kitty Kowalski: "Get out"?
Lex Luthor: He said, "You can print money, manufacture diamonds, and people are a dime a dozen, but they'll always need land." It's the one thing they're not making any more of.

One of my favorite bits from that movie. Spacey did a great job as Luthor; too bad they had to saddle the character with that lame-ass land grab thing from the first time around. I mean, I can see Singer making the movie in the same continuity as the Donner films, but sheesh, that's taking homage a bit too far. :(

Anyway, back on topic. :)

On that note... has anyone else noticed these blurays taking a really long time to load? On the bonus discs it seems like its taking forever, and it skips between "locations"

From what I've been told and what I've read, Blu-ray discs always take a really long time to load. I don't have a BR player (nor do I have plans to get one) so I can't say for certain; I'm just repeating what I've heard. Yet another reason to hold Blu-ray in disdain, if true. :)

Trust me, doubleo, by midway through Series 3, you'll wish Rose Tyler had died during "Doomsday"; by the end of Series 4, you'll be wishing she'd died at the end of "The Parting of the Ways" rather than Nine...

That's interesting. I'm not sure what this means at all, which makes it even MORE interesting.

He probably means the companions get better as the series progresses, i.e. Rose Tyler < Martha Jones < Donna Noble. You'll probably form the same opinion once you get past "The Runaway Bride" and into Series 3 and 4, and yes, Donna does improve considerably between "The Runaway Bride" and "Partners in Crime" (tough chick instead of shrieking harpy). You see glimpses of it in "Bride," though; pay attention to the start of the wedding reception scene...

Oh, and did I mention Series 5 and Amy & Rory? Amy is teh hawtness, and Rory is Time's New Roman. You'll see what I mean once you reach "The Pandorica Opens." :-)

Spoilers within but here's a Guardian article regarding some of the recent complaints that the show is now too complicated (for adults presumably going by the Douglas Adams equation).

Actually, I think it just proves the age-old adage that no matter what you do, you aren't going to please everyone. Speaking strictly for myself, I appreciate having to think about things, rather than just sitting in front of the TV, drooling on myself, and saying "duhhh, shiny object, neat-o!" in a Daria-esque monotone.

I've only met the Runaway Bride at the closing of the episode, I already don't like her.

Yes, Donna's quite shrill and unlikable in "The Runaway Bride." However, she improves quite a lot by the time she becomes a full-time companion in series 4; a lot less "fishwife" and a lot more likable (strong, independent, and resourceful, but most of all, she doesn't "fancy" the Doctor like Rose did). You'll find out once you hit series 4. FWIW, Donna Noble was my favorite companion of the "new Who" era until The Ponds came along. What can I say, there's just something about a redhead. :-)

(And David Tennant is still my favorite Doctor, with Matt Smith running a close second, followed by Peter Davison. I know that many people are positively gaga over Tom Baker, but I haven't seen enough of his episodes to see what the big deal was. I started watching Who on PBS when they were showing Davison's episodes, and only caught a few Baker eps.)

Okay...you've either been under a rock, or are intentionally ignorant of the controversy surrounding the blu-ray releases (and the subsequent boycott) or you're just a troll. In which case I fell for your trap by replying to your idiotic post...

What?! You mean someone has the unmitigated gall to actually disagree with you?!! Un-friggin'-believable! Close up the forum, it's now contaminated beyond repair! Everyone leave, Promus has spoken!

Hadn't thought of that; it's a good possibility, too. And the ringing of the Cloister Bell doesn't necessarily mean "catastrophic, universe-ending danger" in this case. Remember, the whole hotel setting was unreal to begin with, so the bell could've just been "atmosphere" to underscore the Doctor's deepest fear.

And what was in the room that contained the Doctor's greatest fear? (Room 11, of course.)

I think I know: Amy's grave, or her dead body. The Doctor's greatest fear is that he will cause the deaths of those who care about him. (It's not like it hasn't happened before. Think Adric, for starters.) Hence, his parting of the ways with Amy and Rory at the end of the episode. Hell, he pretty much spelled it out for us during his talk with Amy, with him saying that the only other way it could end would be with him standing over their corpses.

"He's saving us."

I take back what I said before. Bill Hunt isn't a whore. Harry Knowles is a whore, an "it's Star Wars on Blu-ray!" whore. But then, I expected nothing less from the juvenile frat boys at Ain't It Cool News.

Of course I was right about virtually every reviewer out there using that false argument. And I was attacked for pointing this out...

Oh for Ric Olie's sake, let it go man!

I was going to say something similar to him, but in the end it was easier just to plonk him. I have no time to waste on people who are so thin-skinned that they get their pwecious widdle fee-fees hurt so easily.

Disappointing that Bill Hunt gave the movie a big shrug and a, "Well, it's Star Wars on Blu-Ray" like everyone else.
To be perfectly honest, I'm starting to respect Hunt's opinions less and less these days. The fact that he (and The Digita Bits by extension) is a Blu-ray whore is a big part of the reason, and his "it's Star Wars on Blu-ray!" pandering (while only giving lip service to fans' objections) only serves to reaffirm my beliefs.
I'm not really understanding how one can be a "whore" for a format that won its format war. Back in the day, I didn't like how he chose what I felt was the wrong side, but I got over it.

It's a totally biased opinion from someone who doesn't care for Blu-ray, has no use for Blu-ray, and is upset that DVD is increasingly being kicked to the curb for Blu-ray. Therefore, it's not supposed to be understood; you're just supposed to nod at it and walk quickly in the other direction. :-)

What do you want to see if George Lucas cared?
Time

As many have already said, I'd like to see:

1.  The original theatrical versions of all six films, preserved exactly as they were when they premiered. I'd expect the picture to be cleaned up, of course (by an outfit that actually cares about what they're doing), and the original audio preserved, and presented in anamorphic widescreen.

2.  Whatever "special edition" versions of all six films he'd care to present. I really don't care, because fan editors (such as Adywan) will undoubtedly take great pains to adjust any mistakes and/or stupid decisions.

3.  Whatever extras he'd like to include, but on one or more discs completely separate from the films. Each film on its own disc, taking as much "bandwidth" as possible to maximize picture quality, and the extras on the side (including Easter Eggs).

4.  DVD and Blu-ray releases. Despite the opinion of many people, DVD ain't dead, not by a long shot. :-)

Something like that would satisfy most people, I think, plus it would also allow him to present his Grand Vision as he sees it. I'd be happy with that.

I know we have a generally good reputation elsewhere, the projects by yourself and Harmy (not forgetting Jambe Davdar's Star Wars Begins) have earned that.

I was thinking back to a post Anchorhead made when referring to frevious's likening of GL's activities to Nazi war crimes. I'm wondering how much newcomers views are affected by posts from two or three of our resident nutjobs.

And none's response:

none said:

^ Judging a whole forum from a few quotes, posts, threads will happen, but that's their loss.  Forums are for people speaking their views, even if they are atrocious, idiotic, repetitive or helpful.

And my response now is the same as it was then: "no, it's our loss." And the negative attitudes are coming out of more than just "two or three nutjobs." It's pervasive here, and yes, a few are a lot more insane about it than others, but denying that pervasiveness isn't going to make it any less true.

Should people here stop "bitching and moaning" about the prequels, the constant tinkering by Lucas, etc.? I don't think so, no. Many of the complaints are indeed legitimate, and as has been said, it's only opinion (the rantings from the "nutjobs" aside). But you've also got to accept that the "bitching and moaning" is going to come at a cost, and that cost is that this forum will be seen by many people as "a gathering place for rabid Lucas bashing." Whether anyone thinks that's fair or not, it's nonetheless the unfortunate reality that can't be denied.

I'll get back on topic, swear, but let me just say that every fanediting comes with the understanding that you must own a legal copy of the movie before downloading the fanedit. It becomes piracy if you did not pay for the legal copy of the movie. If you have a copy of Star Wars, it's just a back up. There's very little the feds can do with that. I've also never heard of anyone getting in trouble over a fanedit.

It doesn't quite work like that.

Lucasfilm: 3D RELEASES MAY NOT HAPPEN AFTER ALL
Time

Doesn't really surprise me. Despite how hard the entertainment industry is pushing 3D, I think the novelty is (once again) wearing off. It happened in the 50's, it happened again in the 80's, and it's happening again now. Seems like the industry has to re-learn this lesson every generation or so.

My thing is, of all the films to get the 3D treatment, it has to be The Phantom Menace? If they're only going to do one film, it should've been Star Wars itself. But then, I obviously don't contain the right gene that gives me Great Wisdom To Decide These Things.

Personally, I'm holding off for Holodeck technology. Porn will never be the same. :-)

Sorry, nope. The same thing could be said about ANY choking scene ever put in a movie - the difference between that and erotic asphyxiation (the reason David Carradine died) is that the choking is inflicted as a means to kill.

Leia wanted to kill Jabba. The end.

Although I never quite got how... was Jabba's neck at his back??

Party pooper =(

Some people are just morons that fail to see the funny... or they do see it but insist on ruining the fun for everyone else.

Wow. How does this guy have any credibility? I noticed the colour problems immediately (the Tantive's laser blasts were so dull).

He doesn't, at least not in my opinion. I used to think he did, but evidence like this has convinced me otherwise (and so has the fact that he's become a total Blu-ray fanboy, relegating the still-relevant and still-vibrant DVD market to the back of the proverbial bus). I only read The Digital Bits now for news about new disc releases, and even then I have to wade through a bunch of Blu-ray garbage.

I can't take credit for the line... it's someone named James Costello.  Find Cody Clarke's review on the first page of saga reviews, and look at the first response to his review.  Genius!

Granted, but you brought it forth to the forum, therefore you must take responsibility for subsequent spit-takes and other consequences of hilarity. :)
